Chapter 68: summoning failed?
Chapter 68: summoning failed?
"What type of pact?" Jack asked crunching his brows. Hesitating a bit Yuma’s expression turned pale, her fist slightly clenched.
"Not seeing any other way to victory at that moment, the goblin king came up with the pact. In return for items, he would sacrifice ten goblins. Majority of 7 being males while 3 were females." Yuma uttered, making jack raise his brow hearing her words.
When she’d said the goblin king formed a pact with ogres, he was eager to hear what sort of agreement they could settle upon. There wasn’t anything of high value in the village, that would catch the attention of ogres. And he wasn’t sure they were in need of anything here.
But, never had he expected the goblin king to sacrifice his own kind for items. That was just barbaric, even for him.
’And I thought I was a monster.’ A soft chuckle escaped Jack’s lip.
"But why didn’t you all decline. I mean you could all gang up against him or something."
Yes the goblin king was a mage, with high magic power for his rank but still. Jack felt they all had a chance if they ganged up against him, and attacked at once together.
"You may not know this, but the goblin king is manipulative and stronger than each of us. Even if we did try to over power him, some of his loyal dedicated followers refused. Leaking out information to him about our plans, thus leading to the public execution."
Yuma sadly spoke, as if relieving a bad memory.
’Why does this feel just like enders planet?’ He weakly sighed, comparing this occurance to what was happening in enders planet. The strong and powerful oppressing the weak, and enslaving them.
But here it was much worse, as in enders there was corruption and violence. But still, they had laws guarding each continent, helping the less privileged breathe a bit.
But here in this new world death was a normal thing. and surprisingly, even public execution couldn’t be questioned by those in power.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" Jack asked staring at yuma. She had her head held down but jack could see it. A single ball of tears fell from her eyes to the sand, though she tried to cover it up.
"A-am sorry for being so weak your highness, i-i deserve death!" She exclaimed, her voice shaky like a broken pipe.
"When the goblin king formed the law, few goblins eagerly volunteered seeing him as a god. But some didn’t, which then led to the selection of random goblin families, mostly the lesser weak goblins." She continued in a downcast tone. Looking at her, jack could see she would soon break down any moment.
Though he didnt care, having already experienced a lot. But still, he could feel the emotions in her words.
"M-my family was part of the goblins that opposed. They were captured and executed before my very eyes, while I was very little. Then I was sent as a chosen, a part of goblin women to entertain the king. But he eventually lost interest in me, casting me out as a reject." She uttered, unable to hold back the built up emotions. Like a broken dam, tears burst from her eyes streaming down her cheeks. Her legs crumbling to the ground unable to stand.
Staring at her jack didn’t utter a word, trying to figure something out.
’She’s just like me.’ Yuma’s story matched his. Came from a poor background, struggled to make a living all to loose it all again. For what? To entertain some influencial bastards that didn’t give a shit?
Going to a kneel, jack proceeded to embrace Yuma in a hug. Startling her a bit, causing her body to shiver under Jack’s touch.
"You’ve endured a lot and though I can’t offer you closure but, I can offer you one thing." Jack paused, his expression turning dark.
"Power." He sternly spoke with a dark tone. Not answering a bit Yuma contemplated what jack offered, but she already knew the answer.
"Yes." She immediately answered with glistening eyes. Nodding, jack then tapped her head some times making her lips contort into a smile of relief.
[Hmph! I see sparks of love in the air..] the system teased to which jack ignored.
After some few minutes jack then let go, seeing Yuma had calmed down.
"T-thank you your highness~" Yuma bowed, to which jack casually waved as nothing.
"I’ll be heading to the ogre settlement tomorrow." Jack abruptly spoke, making Yuma freeze in shock.
"Your highness, y-you’re not serious right?" She stuttered making jack’s face contort into a frown.
"Do I look like am joking?"
"O-of course not your majesty, I apologize.." Yuma stuttered, feeling the air immediately turn grim like a switch. Her eyes widening at how fast, jack could go from jovial to deadly.
"But still, taking on an entire ogre settlement by yourself is not a wise decision. We still don’t know their entire layout, and how powerful they are. There could be some high rank F’s ogre’s or worse, rank E or even D!" Yuma reasoned, trying to dismiss jack from his plans but his mind was already made up.
"My decision is final. I’ll go alone. Bringing an army with me in the open is stupid. Like you said, we don’t know their layout. there would definitely be traps and guards in hidden spots. You’ll only slow me down." His voice was cold and unsettling, making Yuma shudder slightly. She wanted to still insist but she refrained, not wanting to upset jack.
"As you wish your highness." She bowed, bringing out two daggers from the four strapped to her waist.
"These are better quality daggers gifted to me by the goblin king. Please.. take them on your journey." She gestured stretching the daggers forward.
Nodding jack accepted them. He didn’t have any weapons on him, and these daggers were of better quality than the rest he’d seen.
Turning, Yuma was about leaving but stopped hearing jack’s voice.
"The goblin king and the rest of the dead goblins, where are their bodies buried?" Jack calmly asked with a sly smirk.
"Oh! We usually incinerate the bodies of the dead." Yuma said, making jack’s face go pale. The sly smirk tugging on his lips fading, liked the life had been sucked out of him.
"B-but-" Yuma hastingly continued, fearing her life was in danger.
"We buried the bodies of the goblin king and his knights, with a few other important goblin guards at the farm field. For manure."
[Impressive.. not only are they skilled in building traps, they also have incredible fast learning capacity.] The system chuckled, earning a frown from Jack.
’You know.. you’re starting to get a little too creepy with these compliments.’
[Hmph! Simpleton.. I honestly didn’t expect your puny intellect, to comprehend greatness.] The system inwardly retorded in a mocking tone.
’Mock me all you want o wise being. But at least tell me the reason you think so highly of burying dead people on farm land?’ It was a weird and creepy thing to do. Burying a dead person on the farm land, used for planting crops.
[Because.. the best and efficient source of manure is flesh. Having absorbed countless of nutrients. They provide a substantial amount of nutrient needed to fertilize the soil, thus hasting the crop cycle growth.] Hearing the system speak like a wise professor, reminded him of Agathe. Back when he used to be lectured by none other than Kelly. Since he couldn’t afford to go to school, she taught him basic stuff.
[But, a dead body containing fragments of mana in them was even better! Having a great amount of energy and nutrient. Greatly boosting food growth, at unbelievable heights.]
’Hmm.. why didn’t I think of that?’ He’d been thinking of ways to hasting food growth, as manure wasn’t fast enough to his taste.
’It’s still creepy.’ Shaking his head, jack then waved Yuma off. She had other affairs to attend to, still acting as the commander of this village.
’I wonder why he asked for their bodies?’ She wondered, her body shuddering a bit at what sickening idea jack had in mind. Turning she then left, going back to the village.
[Chaos energy: 100/100]
Being over an hour, his chaos energy had been fully refilled. Getting to work, he hastingly summoned another five dead goblins, storing them in the ring.
Waiting for another hour he repeated this process. Continuously summoning allies, like his life depended on it. A little past noon, he’d fully summoned all the dead goblins from the training.
[Undead summons: 26]
A smug grin formed on jack’s face seeing the system screen.
’I’ll be equipped before dark in my path to the settlement.’ His aim was simple. summon all the goblins he could aquire, for his battle against the ogres.
"According to the system and both Yuma and Karrie, the ogres seems to be powerful. I shouldn’t take any risk." Shaking his head a bit he blurred from his spot. moving at astonishing speed, reaching the entrance to the goblin village.
The wooden bridge had been rebuilt, thanks to Yuma and the rest goblins. To which he made his way across, quickly reaching the spot Yuma had mentioned. Seeing some shallow graves with wooden sticks on top.
Locating a shovel he immediately got to work, quickly digging up some graves of about a hundred.
Stretching his hand, he aimed for the goblin king as his first target. The strange red ethereal glow excluded from the ring, pulsing brightly. It then located the goblin king enveloping him.
Gritting his teeth, jack resolved his will struggling against this force. He planted his leg to the ground, preventing himself from being flung by this force.
"Phew.. i-i did it." Jack sighed in relief, seeing the red light fading with a system screen popping up.
[Summoning the goblin king, Ekron abagot failed!]
[Costs 300 chaos energy]
