Chapter 44: Ambush

The foggy dense air was thick, enveloping the goblin village. Several lit up candles were stationed on lamps at windows, porches, even roofs of houses. What was once a quiet environment turned into chaos, in such a short timespan.

Several handmade houses that looked like tents and huts, comprising of wood and grass were completely destroyed. Some buildings made of a bit better materials, didn’t also go unscathed. Suffering attacks all over.

"Retreat!" A goblin yelled, fear lingering in it’s eyes staring at jack. He couldn’t quite determine what the latter was, as his aura didn’t seem like that of beast or creature.

Seeing their commander of the east wing fleeing, the rest lesser goblin soldier took to their heels. But it was already too late.

One by one jack mercilessly killed a goblin, moving to the next. With a wave of his rusty dagger, followed the cry and thud of a goblin.

’I think I have a thing for daggers.’ Jack smirked, staring at the short rusty dagger that looked more like a knife. Back in Agathe he wasn’t familiar with weapons, having no use for them.

But now as an undead, in a new world filled with different races of creatures both known and unknown. Weapons were a necessity and he couldn’t deny it.

Fighting hand to hand combat was temporarily good, since he was stronger than the goblins. But eventually it will become insufficient, when encountered with a higher rank opponent than him.

’System are there daggers in the shop?’ Jack telepathically said, making a deep slash mark to a female goblins chest. Instantly killing her.

[Of course. The system shop is designed to sell weapons that fit user’s fighting style, and grants him a boost. So there will be more higher tier weapons with better stats and potentials, the more stronger you become.]

Nodding, jack could see the dagger would soon eventually give out. Probably with the next three strikes or so. It’d served it’s purpose, even surprising jack a bit, not expecting it to last this long.

There weren’t anymore daggers he could find around but it didn’t matter. Though he found daggers befitting his fighting style, he could still use other weapons.

Grabbing a shield, he blocked some incoming arrows. Stomping his feet he leapt in the air. Crashing down into a makeshift bridge of wood, housing some archers goblins.

Using the edge of the shield he plunged it down, piercing a goblin skull. The creature wasn’t dead yet the shield just some inches in. Exerting his strength, jack managed to severe half of it’s skull.

Green blood with brain juices, gushed out from the dead creature open head. The foul stench of fresh blood assaulting jack’s nostrils.

’Am getting hungry?’ His stomach growled a bit from hunger, staring at the goblin brain. He didn’t eat while in the goblin village, already having eaten in kilroi town. And as an undead, he didn’t require normal food but raw meat. Which could last him days if not weeks.

[Maybe you’re turning into a zombie.] The system joked, making jack chuckle nervously.

’Haha! Very funny.’ He retorded inwardly in a sarcastic tone.

Looking he could see an arrow pierce his side, a goblin archer some few meters from him. The female archer was visibly shaking, barely holding the bow straight.

Her eyes were fixed on jack like a trance, lost in his hollow eyes that lacked life. Like an empty bottomless pit filled with nothing but darkness.

Shivers ran down her spine feeling an otherworldly cold sensation grip her. Like an abominable entity, reaching out from the great beyond.

’I can’t move. W-why can’t I move!?’ She inwardly screamed frozen in place. Her brain gave out commands but her body didn’t respond ignoring her will.

Pulling the arrow out, he calmly walked over to the female goblin archer.

"No~ g-get away from me." She muttered finally regaining control of her body. Pulling out an arrow from her back, she attempted to fire but was stopped.

"Ph-ough." She coughed up fresh blood, feeling the arrow pierce her guts. Her eyes unable to keep up with jack’s speed as he moved.

’Slash! slash! slash!’

Making several more stabs to her guts he activated decay. His right hand turning black, with the same black gooey substance. Shoving it into her guts without any emotion, the black substance moved like a predator attacking her insides. Quickly spreading like a virus, contaminating her system.

"Argh!" She groaned in pain falling to the ground. She tried cutting off bits of her flesh in hopes of stopping this substance, but it was already too late.

The decay skill quickly enveloping her guts, spreading all over her body making her twist and squirm in pain. Under jack’s eye he watched her body shrink, loosing all it’s nutrient. Finally succumbing to the cold arms of death.

Series of system notifications barraged jack’s view. He could tell he’d gotten stronger in battle, but wasn’t entirely sure.

Looking at his profile a light smile escaped jack’s lip, seeing how stacked his profile was becoming. Not only has his strength, agility, and stamina increased greatly. But also his intelligence stat, one of the hardest to increase.

As it wasn’t like the rest physical stat, but more of a mental stat. Requiring either by luck free stat points, or information he aquired. As he’d rarely come across a kill, that granted him intelligence stat points.

"Three more levels to go." Jack grinned, his gaze hovering above the system shop and store. Shaking his head he stormed past the layed out bodies of male, female, and even children goblins. quickly locating the hidden cave a bit away from the village.

It wasn’t like the first behind a waterfall, instead located by the side of some huge rocks. A large stone concealing the entrance to the cave.

"He’s not here." Jack frowned seeing no signs of the goblin king. There weren’t even track marks or footprints on the floor, only mud.

"She said he’d arrive today." A vein bulged at the side of his head.

Yuma was convincing like the seductive fox woman, but he could tell she wasn’t lying. And even his system confirmed it checking her vitals.

[Jack, am sensing high aura’s like kabob’s] the system warned making his senses go on guard.

’Boom! boom!’

No sooner than the system spoke did two items crash into the ground, in front of the large rock. Raising up dust which soon settled, revealing the figures.

"T-two knights." Jack stuttered seeing two goblins just like kabob, in rusty chest piece armour. In their hands was the terrifying Warhammer.

It’s an ambush. His eyes widening a bit seeing the two powerhouses in front.

Meanwhile towards the north side of the village, where the bridge leading in to the village was located. Some piles of goblin guards bodies were littered on the floor. Several slash marks made to their bodies.

"M-my lord." Yuma panted going on her knees her head bowed down. In front was a black horse, it’s rider a goblin with strange deeper shade of green.
