Chapter 57: Talk From The Heart

(Orlax POV)

"I need to reclaim my ’Right’ quickly. Without it, many of my traits are locked, and I can’t use my full power."

As I finished reading and set the tablet aside, my thoughts wandered to my "Right."

The "Right" is something like a unique ability that you gain.

To reach the level of Grandmaster, you must possess the "Right" to be recognized as having truly attained that level.

That’s why, although many people reach the Master level, not everyone can become a Grandmaster.

The reason I have the "Right," or rather, the reason the original Orlax obtained it, was stillness or silence.

During the four years he spent in the imperial palace, he was tortured many times by other princes and princesses.

On one occasion, he was left alone in a dark cell for two whole months.

During that time, he nearly lost his mind due to the isolation and darkness, but he resisted.

And because he resisted, he survived—and because of the silence and stillness that surrounded him, he began to feel something else.

In that moment, he felt it. The world around him started to change.

His perception of things gradually shifted. Instead of being tormented by the silence and darkness...

These very things became his "Right," a power that made him stronger.

"As they say, what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger."

But gaining the "Right" comes with several side effects.

When you use the "Right," you consume it.

And for it to return to you, you must undergo the same conditions under which you first acquired it.

"I need to find a place completely silent and free of distractions to recover my ’Right.’"

"But it’s really annoying that my traits don’t work because I’ve used the ’Right.’ That’s probably why I’ve been emotionally unstable lately."

I got up from my seat, opened the door, and stepped outside.

I headed to the living room to relax for a bit.

When I entered, I found a girl with black hair sitting on the couch watching TV.

"Elena, what are you doing?"

I sat on a couch not far from her and leaned back to relax.

"Nothing much. The maid showed me around, so I came here to rest before going to sleep,"

Elena replied calmly, lazily sprawled across the couch.

I nodded and continued watching TV silently before speaking again.

"Why are you so insistent on hiding your face?"

"Oh, no reason. I’m just used to wearing a mask. You know how hard it is to break old habits."

Elena took off her mask, revealing a beautiful face that left me stunned for a moment.

"Damn it, I need to get my ’Right’ back fast. I can’t afford to be this distracted just by seeing her face."

I pushed the thoughts aside and continued watching in silence.

About an hour later, Elena got up, stretching after sitting for so long.

"I’m going to sleep now. Good night."

"Good night."

I responded and stayed seated for a while, lost in thought, before finally getting up and heading to my room to rest.

I lay down beside the sleeping Sera and closed my eyes.

But just moments later, a knock on the door woke me up.

’Sigh... Seems there’s no rest for me today.’

I got out of bed and opened the door.

"Lax, is it true that you expelled my mother? Tell me this is just a joke, right?"

I saw Alice standing at the door, visibly anxious and demanding an explanation.

"Alice, we’ll talk in the morning. I need to rest now."

I spoke with clear exhaustion from the day’s events, but Alice didn’t move.

"How am I supposed to sleep not knowing what happened to my mother? Let’s talk now."

Alice stayed where she was, and her insistence gave me a headache.

"Fine. You want to know? Come in."

"Alright."

Alice entered the room and sat on the couch, waiting for me to speak.

But I didn’t say a word. I simply took off my shirt, revealing my scarred body.

"Huh? What are you doing?"

Alice was flustered by my sudden action and blushed, thinking I was going to do something inappropriate.

"Look at my body, Alice. How do you think I got all these scars?"

I stood in front of her, who looked confused by my question.

"At the age of ten, when I first came to this palace, the other princes and princesses tortured me."

I took Alice’s hand so she could see my memories, but she quickly pulled away with a frightened look.

"Ugh... What is this? How could a human do this to another human? How could they treat you like this?"

Tears welled up in Alice’s eyes as she saw the memories I had shown her—of the torment I endured for four years.

She suddenly got up from the couch and embraced me tightly.

"I’m sorry. I didn’t know you went through something like that."

Alice hugged me as if trying to erase the pain of the scars.

"It’s okay. I never showed you them before. But more importantly..."

Alice continued to hold me while listening closely.

"The person behind all of this... was your mother."

Alice froze when she heard those words and focused on the memories I showed her.

"No... no, stop. Stop! Don’t show me more."

Alice tried to pull away to avoid seeing more, but I held her and forced her to see it all.

It hurt me to see her like this, but she had to know the truth sooner or later.

After showing her everything, I let her go and took a step back.

"Gasp, gasp..."

Alice was crying, and I simply stood watching her, waiting for her to calm down.

"Now do you understand why I expelled your mother?"

After she calmed down and stopped crying, I spoke again.

"I understand."

Alice lowered her head, thinking about everything she had seen, before raising it once more.

"I understand everything. But... I don’t know what to do."

She sat back down on the couch, holding her head in pain.

"On one side is my family, and on the other side, it’s you. Who should I stand with? Who should I help? It’s killing me slowly..."

I sat beside Alice quietly after hearing her words.

"You don’t have to do anything."

Alice looked up at me, surprised by my words.

"I’ve assigned someone to guard her so she won’t be harmed. But he’ll only intervene if her life is truly in danger."

Hope appeared in Alice’s eyes upon hearing that.

"He’ll also send monthly reports about her condition so you’ll know how she’s doing."

"Really?"

"Of course."

I patted Alice’s head and smiled faintly, seeing her gentle smile.

"Thank you. Even after all my mother has done, you still didn’t—"

"Wait a minute."

I stopped Alice before she could finish and looked at her a bit strangely.

"You saw my emotions before. You must know I don’t really hate your mother."

"Yes... and that’s what confuses me. Why don’t you hate her after all that?"

I paused for a second, collecting my thoughts.

’Why don’t I hate her? The answer is simple.’

"Because I know what hatred can do to a person."

I leaned back on the couch and looked at the ceiling.

"All my life, I was hated by those around me. I’ve seen what hatred can make people do—like your mother. So..."

I raised my hand high as I recalled every person who had hated me since I was a child.

"I don’t want to hate someone and let them see that emotion from me. Because if I truly hate someone... they’ll wish they were never born into this world."

I clenched my fist tightly, my voice turning cold and causing Alice to shiver slightly.

"That’s why I’m angry at your mother and I want revenge for what she did to me... but that’s all. Her punishment will end after four years, and then you’ll see her again."

I turned to see Alice looking at me strangely.

"What?"

"You’re really strange."

Alice touched my face as she looked into my eyes directly.

"If I were you, I’d burn this world to the ground."

I was a little surprised by the cold tone in Alice’s voice—it was the first time I’d heard it.

"Why? This world is beautiful. You can’t judge it because the people in it are evil. That’s just life. There are good people, and there are bad."

I remembered words someone once told me, bringing a smile to my face.

"Didn’t I meet you? You’re one of the people living in this world. If I had burned it down, I would’ve never known you."

These words were what made the original Orlax keep living despite everything.

’Where did that person go? I haven’t heard anything about them since that day...’

I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at Alice, who seemed shocked by my words.

"Maybe you’re right."

A gentle smile appeared on her face, making me smile in return.

"Ah!"

Suddenly, I felt pain in my right eye and held it to ease the discomfort.

"What’s wrong? Does your eye hurt?"

Alice looked concerned when she saw me holding my right eye, but the pain started fading until it was completely gone.

"I’m fine. I felt pain in my eye, but it’s gone now."

After reassuring Alice, I slowly opened my right eye but immediately felt a headache.

"Huh? I can see with my right eye again."
