Chapter 72: Chapter 72 One Day, He Will Personally Take Back Delphine
Jocelyn Yeager took the late-night flight back to Southeast Asia, without staying overnight in Imperial City. If it hadn’t been possible to track the passenger list, the morning gossip headlines would surely have been about a hook-up scandal.
"Third Young Master, the old man has called over ten times already, asking you to return to the Yeager Family immediately." The trusted assistant saw the Third Young Master leisurely eating the breakfast he’d made in his private apartment and, unable to hold back, spoke in a low voice, "Third Young Master, it’d be better to go placate the old man first."
Jocelyn Yeager finished his breakfast, stood up gracefully, and placed the dishes on the kitchen counter. He asked indifferently, "Any updates on the Imperial City rendezvous incident?"
"Our people sold the photos to Mrs. Yeager, and she immediately leaked them. However, within half an hour, someone intervened. By the time you were having breakfast, the Imperial City rendezvous incident had completely disappeared online, with even the photos thoroughly erased."
Jocelyn Yeager let out a knowing, faint smile.
"Third Young Master, since we’re aware it’s Mrs. Yeager’s setup, why let her succeed? This matter’s exposure isn’t great for your reputation." The assistant couldn’t help but ask.
The old man of the Yeager Family held strict traditional values and was exceptionally conservative. Otherwise, Jocelyn wouldn’t have been fostered under Mrs. Yeager’s name. If the truth of Jocelyn being an illegitimate child became public knowledge, it would basically mean losing the Yeager inheritance rights.
"It doesn’t matter, she can’t touch my foundation." Jocelyn narrowed his eyes, his handsome, jade-like features shedding all their warmth, revealing a hint of depth and calculation.
He had known about this incident long beforehand, yet still went to Imperial City, even confirming the rumors about him and Delphine—because she was the person he had always wanted to protect.
Mrs. Yeager had been scheming against him for a long time, but along with Leo Yeager, all they could do was embarrass him publicly. They could not undermine his core stability—his real opponent was Ignatius Leclair.
This incident was merely a signal, one he sent to Ignatius Leclair. Someday, he would personally take back Delphine.
If Ignatius Leclair could kick him when he’s down, then Jocelyn could find his Achilles’ heel.
By the time Delphine arrived in Southeast Asia, it was already evening. Maximilian personally came to pick her up. She parted ways with Sister Zhao and got into the car directly. Rushing back and forth from flights had taken a toll on her, leaving her complexion pale and sickly. Delphine curled up in the backseat with her eyes closed for some rest. It was only when the car stopped that she realized they had returned to the Leclair Residence.
Maximilian carried her luggage while Delphine stepped inside, hearing the sounds of things being smashed from the side hall from afar.
Her heart tightened, and she treaded lightly, stepping into the side hall carefully. There, she saw shards of blue-and-white porcelain cups scattered across the floor, with Mrs. Gu bending down to clean up.
The servants had all disappeared, leaving the side hall deserted.
Delphine’s face darkened as she quickly stepped inside, moving to her side.
Mrs. Gu looked up and saw her, hurriedly turning her face to the side and forcing a smile. "You should have let me know you were coming back. I would’ve asked the steward to save you some dinner."
Delphine clenched her fingers tightly, her gaze fixed on the bruise on Mrs. Gu’s left cheek. In a tone cold and detached, she asked, "Did he hit you again?"
Mrs. Gu’s expression changed. She quickly grabbed Delphine’s hand and muttered in a low voice, "What nonsense are you talking? Go back to your room."
"Aunt, have you truly never considered leaving the Leclair Family?" Delphine closed her eyes, a faint sadness coloring her voice.
Mrs. Gu stared at her steadily, speaking each word with deliberate weight. "I’ve endured for so many years, all for today. Delphine, remember this: don’t ruin things for me."
