Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Ten days in the wilderness, and you don’t recognize me anymore?
The conversation fell into silence for a moment.
"Delphine is no longer young. It’s time for her to settle down. Do you know any good young men?" Mrs. Gu sighed as she held Delphine’s hand, sitting on the sofa. "This child is so lonely, it really pains me to see her like this."
Stone Leclair mulled it over for a while and finally said, "This is not something I’m in a position to handle. Matters between young people are ultimately about fate. You can make the arrangements as you see fit."
Mrs. Gu nodded with delight.
In this entire conversation, Delphine had spoken only two sentences, but the decision for a marriage meeting had already been cemented.
Delphine returned to her small attic room, gazing out at the South Seas’ nighttime view. In May, the South was vibrant with growth, warmth, and blooming flowers, yet her hands and feet were freezing. She let out a self-deprecating laugh. Among the younger generation of the Leclair Family, only Bessie Leclair was a legitimate granddaughter. Even someone like her, who was considered a burden, could still have value in an arranged union.
She curled up in the corner and fell asleep, but she didn’t know how much time had passed when she was startled awake by a sudden chill. Opening her eyes, she thought she saw a shadow by her bed and broke out into a cold sweat, nearly letting out a scream.
In the darkness, a man let out a cold sneer, his attitude heinously disdainful. He turned on the bedside lamp, and Delphine realized with a start that she was no longer in her small attic. This was Ignatius Leclair’s bedroom.
Ignatius had apparently just returned home; he hadn’t even changed his clothes. He had only removed his jacket, leaving his white shirt unbuttoned at the top two buttons, revealing his alluring collarbone. Having not seen him for several days, his already arresting face seemed even more coldly striking. Seeing her frightened expression, he unhurriedly rolled up his cuffs and took off his shirt, his voice a deep rumble. "What are you scared of?"
As he removed his shirt, the sudden sight of his muscular figure overwhelmed Delphine’s vision. She closed her eyes tightly and had yet to reopen them when she felt the bed dip beside her. His strong, overwhelming presence enveloped her.
Ignatius reached out, pulling her into his arms, enveloping her slender frame. Sensing her entire body stiffen like a stone, he showed no annoyance. His big hand stroked her waist, his voice low and hoarse as he murmured, "Running wild outside for ten days and now you don’t even recognize me?"
Her entire body shuddered, and she quickly shook her head, frustration bubbling beneath her composure. Why had Ignatius returned? The father and son of the Leclair Family had always been at odds; whenever Stone was home, Ignatius rarely appeared.
Ignatius’s heated palm had already slid beneath her nightdress, his calloused skin brushing over her smooth, tender skin. Her body trembled at his touch and instinctively twisted slightly to evade, causing his body to abruptly tense.
"What did Stone Leclair talk to you about?" Ignatius’s voice was low as he continued his exploration, asking deliberately.
"Probably about arranging a marriage," Delphine hesitated before responding softly.
Ignatius let out a cold, mocking snort. Flipping her over, he pinned her beneath the soft blanket, his chiseled features descending close to hers. His voice, gravelly and intoxicating, was filled with menace. "A marriage meeting? My woman—who dares to make the call, huh?"
Delphine didn’t dare move. The tension in his taut, iron-like muscles was palpable. She turned her head aside, her mind filled with curses. This bastard was depraved in bed, always inventive, unbearably intense, and his words knew no boundaries. When he got ruthless, he was like a predator that devoured without leaving a trace.
In the end, she couldn’t take it anymore. Out of options, she pinched the small, soft patch of flesh at his waist, her voice tender and pleading for mercy.
The sting of her pinch seemed to ignite Ignatius further. He cursed under his breath, burying his teeth into her collarbone and growling hoarsely, "This body is too weak. Next time, we’ll need to increase the training."
Delphine murmured vaguely in response. Exhausted, she drifted off to sleep.
