Chapter 202: Chapter 202: The lessons learned about being human over the years have all gone to the dogs

"What happened at the stables?" Ignatius Leclair asked grimly, his sharp brows angling into his temples as his icy gaze pierced through the air. His voice was heavy and cold.

"Miss Bessie fell off her horse. They’ve already called a doctor, but judging by the situation, she’ll need to be sent to the hospital. However, there’s the engagement party..."

Ignatius strode toward the stables without hesitation, Maximilian hesitated but said nothing.

"Where’s Delphine?" Ignatius was consumed with worry, his thoughts chaotic, his rage aimed directly at Jocelyn Yeager.

Back when he had driven Delphine away, he hadn’t considered they’d have any future. Though he was furious about the situation between Griffith Squire and Delphine, he knew it was a mess of his own making. But Reginald Yeager—over the years, the man’s morals seemed to have gone to the dogs, choosing such petty, conniving ways to stir trouble.

Maximilian paused for a moment but quickly came to terms with it. As expected, in Leclair’s heart, Delphine still mattered more.

"Miss Delphine is fine. The one racing against Miss Bessie was Leah Squire. When I arrived, Miss Leah had fallen as well while trying to save Miss Bessie. Word is her old injury has flared up again." With such a major incident happening during the engagement party, where prominent families from the South Sea had sent their representatives, not a single person in charge was present—only onlookers enjoying the drama. This compelled Maximilian to come out searching for someone.

Though it was held on Yeager territory, ultimately, everything bowed to the Leclair family’s authority.

When Ignatius reached the stables, he saw from afar that a crowd had gathered tightly around a small area. Somewhere in the midst, someone called out, "Leclair is here," prompting the crowd to part and make way.

Bessie Leclair was sprawled on the ground, no one daring to move her. She was half-sitting, tears streaming down her face as pain overwhelmed her. Leah Squire, however, had managed to stand but looked ghostly pale, supported on either side by Delphine and Griffith Squire.

Ignatius’s gaze hardened; the scene before him felt piercingly unpleasant. With a tightened expression, he approached.

"Brother, they tried to kill me!" Bessie, having narrowly escaped from death, cried out aggrievedly. Her once flawless makeup was ruined beyond recognition, her face was scratched, her clothes dirty, and her injuries clearly severe. The moment Ignatius arrived, she sobbed pitifully, "They definitely tried to harm me."

Leah Squire’s breath hitched at these words, rage nearly choking her. This ingratiating ingrate—it would’ve been better had she fallen to her death.

Griffith Squire had arrived only moments before Ignatius. Seeing his dear sister fall from the horse, her old injury resurfacing, his flawlessly handsome features were shrouded in a stormy darkness. He let out a cold snort, his eyes flashing with frost.

"If it weren’t for Leah, you’d already be dead in this stables today. The horse belongs to the Yeager family, the attire as well—it’s a waste you even have a brain." Delphine’s face turned icy as she scolded, "Instead of pointing fingers first, why not investigate whether it was an accident or foul play."

"Leah needs to be sent to the hospital first." Delphine noticed Leah’s pale complexion and feared her injuries were serious, triggering her old condition. Panic surged in her chest; instinctively, she glanced toward Griffith Squire.

Griffith nodded gravely, saying, "The doctor has already been informed."

Griffith turned to Ignatius, his tone detached as he remarked, "This matter must be thoroughly investigated, Leclair. My sister’s health is frail, and if this incident causes any lasting repercussions, it won’t end peacefully."

An engagement party meant to go smoothly had turned into chaos, with two esteemed Misses falling off their horses, leaving the crowd murmuring in astonishment but too fearful to voice their thoughts.

Ignatius’s expression was void of warmth as he coldly commanded Maximilian, "Get two cars ready to take Miss Squire and Bessie to the hospital. Then seal off Yeager Manor—no one goes in or out. Start a thorough investigation."

His piercing gaze landed on the slowly approaching Jocelyn Yeager, filled with chilling hostility. Each order was steady and firm as it rolled off his tongue, "Tell Six to bring people over and take charge. Then notify Old Man Yeager to come meet me."
