Chapter 131: Chapter 131 Emotions Are Like a Ferocious Tiger to Her

"Take a break first." Lian Jiang noticed something was off in her expression and gestured for her to rest.

Delphine patted the little girl’s head, walked out of the set, and sat in front of a Republic District building, gazing at the culturally rich old-town area.

The production crew had rented an entire street. At this moment, the weather was still sweltering, and there were few pedestrians on the road.

Lian Jiang walked up from behind and sat next to her. The man was still wearing his signature coarse robe and had his hair tied in a small braid. He smiled faintly at her and said, "I consider myself a man with stories, but when I look into your eyes, all I see are stories."

Delphine curved her lips in a faint smile and replied lightly, "Just a little worn down by life."

"Your acting is excellent; you can analyze all kinds of people and quickly immerse yourself in their states. But Delphine, your acting is like an out-of-body experience—a passerby. Half of your soul engages with the character, while the other half hovers at a distance, looking down on yourself from above." Lian Jiang’s eyes flickered with a hint of appreciation; this was the first time he’d spoken such sharp and unreserved words to a young actress. "You cannot be this detached and unfeeling to yourself. You need to integrate into this vibrant world."

The first time Lian Jiang met Delphine Carter, he thought she was beautiful, but it seemed like something was shrouding her, preventing clarity. Watching her on set today, even her treatment of the little girl carried the same detached expression, which startled him. Such great intuition, yet she wrapped herself in layer upon layer of chains, isolating herself from the world.

Delphine’s gaze shifted. She looked at the thirty-something director, young and unconventional, without saying a word. Stretching out her hand, she stared at the sunlight reflecting off her fair, delicate fingertips. Over the years, having experienced too much, she could only numb herself by sealing away her senses. If she couldn’t feel, she wouldn’t hurt. She could play the supporting character who sacrifices for love, or the high-IQ criminal, but playing the role of a mother who had lost her child caused her fingertips to tremble slightly.

Emotions, for her, were like tigers. If she released those dark feelings, sealed away for years, she wasn’t sure where they would take her.

Delphine sat lost in thought, not knowing when Lian Jiang had left. Suddenly, the roar of a red Ferrari tearing through the cultural district street startled the pedestrians. The speeding Ferrari screeched to a halt in front of the Republic District building as Bessie Leclair strode out in seven-inch high heels, storming in with an entourage.

The producer of the crew received the news and quickly rushed over with a group of people, nodding and bowing as he smiled and said, "Miss Leclair, what brings you here?"

This area was entirely Leclair Family property. Though Bessie wasn’t one of the core figures, it didn’t matter—she bore the Leclair name.

Bessie was raging as she arrived with a few close friends to settle the score. That idiot Yvonne Wade had been tasked with taking care of Delphine Carter but ended up dragging the Wade Family into the fray. The events of last night left Bessie fuming with anger.

When Jocelyn Yeager stepped in, Bessie became the laughingstock of Republic District’s elite socialite circles. Never had she imagined that one day, the insignificant little hanger-on of her family would undermine her.

Bessie stewed in anger all night, and the moment she learned Delphine had left to film, with Ignatius Leclair not around to intervene, she charged in headfirst.

"Did you rent this entire street?" Bessie crossed her arms, sneering. "Get your person in charge out here. This is Leclair Family property. I’ve got other plans for it. You’re not renting this place anymore."

The producer’s face turned ashen at those words. The production crew had paid a heavy fee to rent this location, not to mention the astronomical costs and logistical nightmare of relocating suddenly. But this was a member of the Leclair Family—they couldn’t afford to offend her.

"Miss Leclair, we already signed contracts. Could you kindly reconsider and show some lenience?" the producer said with an obsequious smile, practically begging.

Bessie sneered, her eyes glaring at Delphine, flames of fury burning within as she spat out, one word at a time, in a forceful tone, "No. Get your crew out of here. Now."
