Chapter 695: Chapter 294: Three Ways to Eat a Fish

It was a little past eight in the morning when Lin Yang started his live stream and began ice fishing for the first time.

"Wow, it looked like you hadn’t even cleaned up during yesterday’s live stream, but this shack is pretty neat."

"Aside from being a little too short to stand up in, everything’s going well, it’s even more reliable than our ice fishing tents."

"Tsk tsk, look at the bear skin laid out on the floor, that’s luxurious!"

"Hey, host, you should just spend the night here, I feel like lighting a fire in this shack would be warmer than in a shelter."

"It’s been days since we’ve seen you fish, and this is the first time ice fishing, let’s start fishing and chat while we do it."

Seeing the viewers clamoring to watch ice fishing, Lin Yang suddenly smacked his forehead.

"Damn, I got the ground all covered with skins, brought the fishing rigs and hooks, but I still forgot something." He said with a frustrated look.

"What’s up? The bros are all waiting to see you fish."

Lin Yang said, "I forgot to drill an ice hole."

Upon hearing this, the viewers in the live stream burst into laughter.

"Ah, I was wondering what was missing in the shack just now, turns out there’s no ice hole. So how are you going to fish? Lying on the ice begging for carps?"

"Damn lying on the ice begging for carps, didn’t you see how thick the ice layer was near the water when the host fetched water before? Only because you laid down the skin to insulate from the cold, otherwise if you stay on the ice too long, your balls would get frostbite."

"Hahaha, the host is killing me, I’m laughing so hard my stomach hurts!"

Looking glum, Lin Yang lifted the skin, then awkwardly started smashing the ice layer with an axe, busy for over half an hour before finally making an ice hole about twenty-five centimeters in diameter.

The hut was toasty warm with his work, his forehead sweating, despite the howling winds outside sending temperatures plunging to well below minus ten degrees.

Efficiently scooping up the broken ice from the hole, Lin Yang cleaned up the surrounding area as well, and finally, the ice hut looked somewhat in order.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead and said, "Phew... finally got it all set up, come on bros, let’s get started!"

"Where’s your ice fishing rod, host? What are you going to use for fishing?"

"The host is hilarious, are you going to fish with just an empty hand and an axe?"

"You’ll probably catch a hammer, yo. Be careful, host, don’t drop your lumber axe into the water, or you’ll run out of wood to burn."

The first part almost made Lin Yang crack up, unable to hold back his laughter, and the second part sent a shiver of afterthought through him.

The axe was placed close to the wall not far away, and if it fell into the water through the ice hole, his challenge might really have to end early.

Without firewood in such cold weather, he wouldn’t last a day, and the shelter’s wood supply wasn’t enough to last until the end of the challenge.

Lin Yang moved the axe to another corner of the ice hut, then pulled out a roll of PE line and a fish hook from his pocket as if by magic.

He swiftly tied the fish hook to the end of the PE line, then hung a piece of warm bear meat onto the hook and casually dropped it down the ice hole.

"We don’t have professional ice fishing equipment, so the method I’m using is pretty simple. You’ve seen me fish at Black Pond with the rod tip bent before, today we’ll bend our fingertips instead."

The large hook with the meat kept descending until it stopped after seven or eight meters.

After smoothing out the line a bit, he calmly wrapped it around the tip of his index finger and patiently waited.

When choosing the spot, he had already used his fishing spot selection skill and found that this area was densely populated by fish and suitable for fishing. However, after fishing for a while, Lin Yang realized that ice fishing wasn’t as easy as he had imagined.

With his arm outstretched and his hand in position, he began to stiffen, yet not a single fish bit the bait. What was going on?

Could it be that the temperature was too low and the fish below weren’t feeding?

This idea surfaced but was quickly dismissed by Lin Yang himself.

The fish in the lake were quite different from those domestically, and although he wasn’t familiar with many species, he knew that almost ninety-nine percent were cold-water species that fed normally in winter, and some even spawned during this temperature season.

Then... could it be something wrong with the bait?

For convenience when baiting, he had kept the bear meat warm in his pocket, and he chose a part of the meat with a strong blood scent, which should have worked in theory.

As he fished and pondered, Lin Yang suddenly had a hunch about a possible oversight.

Could it be that the line assembly lacked weight and the hook with the bait hadn’t reached the bottom?

The next second, he reeled in the fishing line, said goodbye to the viewers in the live room, and came out of the snow hut to head toward the shore.

After circling the lakeside, he found a few pebbles, used the axe to break them up, and then tied a suitable piece to the PE line rig before tossing the hook and bait back into the ice hole.

With the additional weight of the stones, the line descended much faster than before.

After a dozen seconds, the hook and stones hit the bottom, and Lin Yang’s previous judgment was confirmed.

Luckily, the length of the fishing line in the water before the weights were added was a good two meters longer than it was now; without a doubt, there must have been an underwater current that drifted the whole rig to another spot.

With the hook bait fluttering midway in the water, it was understandable that no fish were biting.

Glancing at the generous amount of line above the ice hole, Lin Yang grimaced and said, "Damn, I made a rookie mistake on my first time ice fishing. Look at the extra line coming out, the hook and bait definitely didn’t reach the bottom before, but now it surely has."

"Hahaha, the host is too funny, looks like even you have blind spots in fishing."

"It’s normal for such a vast lake to have underwater currents."
