Chapter 688: Chapter 291: Dealing with the Swan_3
By the time Lin Yang returned to the camp, it was just after 10 a.m. The actual combat had not taken much time—most of it had been spent traveling.
Little White, having eaten its fill, was directly placed on a rack to rest. Lin Yang snapped off a chopstick-thick fresh pine branch, alternately carving it with his army knife and heating it over a stove, busying himself with the task.
Soon, he had fashioned a simple plucking tool.
This was a bent pine branch tweezer, the front end of which had been shaved flat, and the back end had been bent into a U-shape by the fire, significantly increasing its flexibility. He tested it with his hands, and found that the elasticity and feel were both quite good.
"This is our plucking tool, a flat-headed tweezer. Using this thing won’t damage the feathers and cause fuzz. Next, I plan to stuff the down I collected into the lining of my sleeping bag."
As he spoke, Lin Yang showed everyone the sleeping bag he had been using to sleep in lately.
This was an expensive professional sleeping bag he had purchased, filled with top-grade white goose down. To ensure breathability and warmth without the down escaping, there was a separate inner lining of space inside, where he could temporarily store the down. This arrangement would keep him warm while sleeping without any loss.
After the demonstration, Lin Yang began his extensive plucking project.
It seemed difficult, but the actual process was quite simple.
Speaking of which, bird feathers are divided into several types: the large feathers from the wings and tail, small feathers from the body surface, and the down feathers close to the body for warmth.
Lin Yang now had plenty of time and patiently plucked all the miscellaneous feathers from the body surface, revealing the pure white down to everyone.
This down was like wearing a top-tier down jacket naturally; no wonder it could withstand the cold in harsh winters.
"These body surface feathers are not valuable, but the flight feathers and tail are useful. We will keep these as souvenirs and for decoration. Watch closely, now. I’m starting to pluck the down."
Lin Yang laid the partially processed swan flat on his thigh, using his homemade tool to part the layer of down, accurately grasping a fluff at the base, and gently applying force, he plucked it out completely.
The entire process was very gentle, reminiscent of plucking gray hairs for Dad when he was younger.
As the top-grade insulating material in nature, the down from the wild Little Swans was of exceptionally high quality. Each fluff looked like a miniature dandelion. After removing a few in succession, a small pile accumulated in his palm, visibly fluffier by eye than that of Thunderbirds or other elite down jacket brands.
Fearing that it would be blown away by the warm air from the stove, Lin Yang treated it like a treasure, stuffing it into the sleeping bag and bending down to continue his work.
Before he knew it, several hours had passed.
Lin Yang’s main focus was on dealing with the high-quality down of the Little Swan. Between plucking, he intermittently chatted and interacted with his viewers, making time fly by.
At peak times, there were over one hundred thousand viewers in his streaming room, and this number remained stable for a very long period, which was quite outstanding.
After his meticulous efforts, he finally managed to pluck all the down from the Little Swan’s body.
The previously fluffy swan, now resembled a plucked fluffy chicken, with the only difference being slightly larger in size.
Lin Yang stood up and stretched lazily. Just as he was about to speak, his stomach embarrassingly started to rumble.
Returning with the joy of successfully hunting the swan, he hadn’t felt hungry. After being busy for so long, it was already past two in the afternoon, almost three, and he hadn’t had his lunch yet.
"Uh, feather plucking is done, but it seems I forgot to have lunch, I’m so hungry." Lin Yang comically rubbed his stomach.
"Hahaha, focused on plucking and still babbling about how it’s easier when the feathers are warm, this host is hilarious."
"Now that the game is all cleaned up, next up, let’s stew the big swan in a big iron pot."
"If you want it well done, it’s gonna take a while. You see, the big swan’s feathers are plucked clean, but the insides are all a mess still."
Lin Yang glared at the naked swan for a moment, then gritted his teeth, "Damn it, we’re not in a rush; today we’re doing a pot-roast swan, lunch and dinner together, let’s go to the river to clean the insides."
He didn’t have a big pot for stewing swan, but at this moment, there were other options besides a single combat pot—two intact clay pots, properly controlled heat should suffice for cooking food.
Thus, Lin Yang, the morning hunter, turned into a gourmet food streamer by the afternoon.
Along with his online viewers, he processed ingredients, collected wild berries and lichens around the campsite, and even raided squirrel-hoarded mushrooms, eventually cooking a big pot of all-natural, chemical-free swan stew.
A mighty Little Swans, after gutting and feather plucking, had about six or seven pounds of meat left. He chopped it all into large pieces with his army knife, stuffed it into the clay pot, lit a fire beneath it, and started cooking.
Using the old saying that a toad lusting after a swan’s flesh to represent wishful thinking, Lin Yang couldn’t help but remark after smelling the swan meat, "This actually isn’t bad for a toad."
Unlike the Thunderbird, Little Swans had a rich layer of subcutaneous fat which, after boiling and mixing with the wild mushrooms brought a rich flavor, impeccably delicious even with just a pinch of salt.
After simmering on medium heat for over two hours as dusk neared, he lifted the hand-woven lid, and the entire shelter filled with a rich aroma.
Lin Yang deeply inhaled, exclaiming, "Ah, that smells so good, without any exaggeration, this is the most delicious meat soup I’ve ever smelled. I’m so hungry, let me taste it for everyone."
With that, he scooped up some soup with a wooden spoon, slurped it from a rustic clay bowl, and the flavorful taste exploded on his taste buds. Instantly, it felt like every pore in his body opened up.
"Hmm, one word, delicious! So flavorful, this is a completely different kind of deliciousness from fish soup. To elaborate, it’s the rich scent of swan fat mixed with wild mushrooms, along with a faint aroma of lichen. These ingredients perfectly complement each other, added to the unique flavor produced by cooking in a clay pot, delicious, just too delicious..."
With a sip of the soup, Lin Yang turned into a food critic, holding the bowl and indulgently describing it.
The squinted eyes and expression on his face left the streaming viewers stunlocked.
