Chapter 650: Chapter 279: Making Traps
Not good, don’t panic, must not panic.
Lin Yang warned himself internally, taking several deep breaths in a row and gradually stabilizing his physical condition.
What are wild animals most afraid of?
Fire, right! They are afraid of fire!
He slapped his forehead, turned around, and went to fetch some firewood from the fireplace, already accustomed to adding firewood while sleeping at night, and at that moment, the firewood in the fireplace was burning vigorously.
Lin Yang grabbed a burning pine branch and once again went to the doorstep.
What’s the next step?
Go out? Definitely can’t go out!
Wait! When dawn breaks, the disadvantage of poor visibility will be gone.
Even if it’s still there, I could make a satellite phone call for help—worst comes to worst, I’ll just have to give up my qualifications. With a solid wooden cabin for defense, I will certainly not be in danger.
Having realized this, Lin Yang finally calmed down completely.
So, he turned off the emergency light and just stood quietly at the doorstep, the flame of the pine wood extinguished, leaving only half of the charred wood flickering dimly.
It seemed there were no longer any noises outside, the Black Bear began clawing again.
After listening for a while, Lin Yang realized that the creature had likely smelled the smoked fish in the cellar and was now continuously digging near the sealing stone.
A bear isn’t as smart as a human when it encounters a stone in its way; its first thought is to dig elsewhere, not to move the stone.
The stone weighed about forty or fifty kilograms, which wasn’t hard for Lin Yang to lift, and shouldn’t be hard for the bear either.
But continuing like this was obviously not a solution; the grunting digging sounds persisted, and sooner or later it would break through, and it wouldn’t take long.
By then, my store of dried fish would be doomed.
What if I wait for the bear to enter the cellar and then block the door?
Lin Yang briefly considered a somewhat dangerous plan but quickly rejected it.
The cellar’s area was quite large compared to the bear; if it got in, unless he was willing to burn down the cabin, he really couldn’t handle it alone.
If I lost half of my fish supplies and also the cabin, it would mean that the past ten days were wasted. He definitely didn’t want that to happen.
Could I perhaps use a bluff to scare it away?
With this thought, Lin Yang steeled his heart, gripped the pine branch, aimed for a gap in the door, and jabbed towards the bear’s raised backside.
Squeak!
A sharp whistle blew from his mouth almost simultaneously as the fiery pine branch poked the bear, sending sparks flying everywhere.
Even the bear, thick-skinned and with thick flesh, would still feel pain, especially when scorched by the red-hot pine charcoal.
Black Bear groaned lowly and turned tail to run.
After standing in the cabin for a long time, Lin Yang had begun to adapt to the darkness. Through the doorway, he saw the large shadow sprinting away and quickly disappearing without a trace.
"Finally scared off that big fellow...."
He collapsed to the ground, feeling his whole body soften.
All night long, he had hardly slept, wearing his coat and leaning against the door throughout the night, until it got light. Lin Yang looked around and, not seeing any sign of Black Bear, finally opened the door and walked out.
The situation outside the door was worse than expected: next to the cellar entrance, a hole had been dug. If he had hesitated any longer the previous night, the bear probably would have expanded the hole to the size needed to enter the cellar, with a lot of soil scattered around and large distinct bear tracks clearly visible.
Thoroughly frightened, Lin Yang walked around the cabin and found animal feces not far away. Using a stick, he analyzed the feces which faintly revealed small bones, unknown berry pits, and other residues.
Needless to say, this was bear feces.
These animals don’t defecate or urinate randomly; it also signifies a claim of territorial rights. In other words, the area around the camp had already been marked by the Black Bear as its territory.
How could anyone tolerate another snoring on their bed? Lin Yang was originally the Emperor of this wilderness, and the arrival of Black Bear posed a deadly threat to him.
Seeing the bear feces, he completely abandoned any hope of good fortune, frowned, and thought for a long time, then turned on the drone and the regular camera positions to start the livestream early.
"Holy smokes, what’s up with the host? Streaming this early, I haven’t even finished my night shift yet."
"Didn’t wash your face? Or is it the illusion of not sleeping at night? You look terrible, you’ve even got panda eyes."
"Are you going to check the traps? It’s really early today."
Lin Yang checked the drone and the fixed position cameras and greeted them, "Good morning, everyone. Last night my shelter was attacked by a Black Bear, so I hardly slept at all."
Having said this, he unconsciously yawned, extremely exhausted after a night of high tension.
"What happened? The camp was attacked? Are you alright? Did you get hurt?"
"This early in the morning, don’t joke around. This is serious."
"Forget it, let’s give up our right, it’s just a challenge. You don’t really need that five hundred thousand dollars in prize money, let’s go back to our country and fish."
"What’s the situation? Did the Black Bear run off?"
Lin Yang smiled: "Fortunately among the misfortune, when I came back to the camp yesterday, I had already reinforced the cabin door, so the bear didn’t hurt me. This big guy discovered my cellar and dug for a long time last night. Here, let me show you what it did."
Lin Yang quickly moved to the position near the cabin door with the camera.
