Chapter 474: Chapter 221: Kite Fishing Method
As he spoke, he turned on the drag system, and under the weight of the sinker, the hooks began to descend into the water. Seeing how adroitly he handled it, the captain knew he surely had experience.
The shallow reef area was only around twenty or thirty meters deep. Feeling the line’s speed slow down slightly, Lin Yang knew that the sinker had reached the bottom.
Instantly, he lifted his arm upward, trying his best to prevent the sinker from snagging on debris on the seabed.
After a slight adjustment, he began reeling in the line, searching for the bottom fish layer’s location. At about one and a half meters above the bottom, he suddenly felt the tip of the rod dip—there was a fish on the hook.
Lin Yang wasn’t greedy; he swiftly lifted the rod to set the hook and then rapidly reeled the line back in.
Sure enough, on the third hook of the string, there hung a small fish weighing about two ounces.
"Brother Yang’s got skill, catching a fish on the first try. That’s our target bait, herring. Golden spearfish love this stuff." Zhang Lin couldn’t help but exclaim after a glance.
Lin Yang just smiled, not saying much. Used to catching big fish, fishing for such small ones felt like play to him, very simple.
No sooner had he thrown the fish into the live well than Captain Harry also caught a fish.
As an experienced captain, his fishing expertise was quite profound. He hoisted the string of hooks out of the water, and three small fish hung from the five hooks, significantly more efficient.
However, Captain Harry seemed rather choosy about the bait fish. After a brief glance, he picked off the two ugly and ragged-looking fish and threw them back into the sea, keeping only one herring for the live well.
Since this was a shallow reef area teeming with small fish, not every species was suitable as bait for bluefin. The two small fish just caught on the bottom hook were small groupers, which bluefin tuna rarely eat, so the captain tossed them back into the sea.
"Herring and silver tiger fish can be used to catch bluefin tuna, but generally speaking, herring works best," the captain said after giving Lin Yang a look.
"Got it, I know," Lin Yang replied.
Having understood the best option, Lin Yang quickly cast the rig back into the water, continuing to fish.
At the same time, he counted the line’s descent in his mind. After the sinker hit bottom, he reversed and reeled in a little more than two meters—it was the depth at which he caught the first herring.
Once he found the layer again, Lin Yang started to jiggle the rig up and down, closely feeling for any changes in the tension at the rod’s tip.
After just a few jiggles, he once again felt the tug of a fish on the bait.
But this time, he didn’t hurry to pull in the line to catch the fish. Instead, he wanted to try the thrill of multiple catches with one cast; after all, if fishing wasn’t for showing off, it would be meaningless.
He set the hook with a lift of the rod, then returned it to its previous spot, continuing the teasing motion.
If there had been a camera underwater at that moment, it would have captured the fish skin stringer swinging with Lin Yang’s rhythmic teasing, becoming lively like a little fry darting about, luring larger herring to strike.
After catching the first fish, Lin Yang kept up the action. To his surprise, however, no more fish took the bait, which puzzled the relatively inexperienced Lin Yang.
With patience, he tried several more times without any further signs, so he was forced to reel the rig back in.
When he saw where the herring had bitten on the stringer, an idea dawned on Lin Yang.
The herring had taken the bait on the lowest hook, suggesting that the layer he was fishing in was a bit too high. Since a herring was hanging there, the hooks above were beyond the fish layer, naturally impacting his catch rate.
After removing the herring and tossing it into the live well, Lin Yang quickly sorted out his rig. Looking at the others, including Zhang Lin and the captain, each of them was busy with their rods, striving for bait fish.
He glanced at the camera and said, "After several trial casts, I think I’ve got the method down. Next, I’ll perform a double catch for everyone, a little challenge."
Having said that, Lin Yang pressed the line release switch, and the rig began to descend smoothly again.
Timing the descent he had become familiar with, this time he didn’t wait for the sinker to hit bottom. Instead, he stopped letting out line early, clicking the reel to lock it.
"Alright, let’s fish at this depth," Lin Yang announced, then began rhythmically raising and lowering the rod, making the hooks move as if swimming.
Strangely enough, after just a couple of jigs, the tip of the rod tightened again—he had another bite.
"Haha, the first one," Lin Yang exclaimed with a slightly more exaggerated lift, securing the fish to the hook, and maintained the previous teasing technique.
The second one quickly followed.
Then came the third.
In less than five seconds, he had three successive bites!
"Got it, got it; at least two, maybe three. Now is the moment for everyone to witness a miracle," Lin Yang declared.
The live stream’s viewers were tantalized by his confident proclamation, eagerly awaiting the reveal of the rig.
Soon, the stringer emerged from the water.
The first fish was a herring—an effective bait.
The second fish, also a herring, another effective bait.
Continuing to reel in the line, the last hook emerged, with yet another herring—another effective bait.
The flag Lin Yang had just boldly planted was immediately realized beyond expectations, his prowess was on display.
"Hahaha, I just knew there was a chance. How about that? All three are the target bait fish, not bad, right?" Lin Yang laughed as he removed the hooks, his face smug with satisfaction.
"What’s going on here?"
"If I’m not mistaken, it seemed even the captain couldn’t catch three target fish in one go just now. How did the host pull it off?"
