Chapter 406: Chapter 200: Dogtooth Golden Spear_2
"Hello everyone, we’ve now moved to another location, codenamed ’Sunken Ship’, where it’s said that large creatures often appear, so we’ve changed our fishing method to try our luck here."
After resuming the broadcast, Lin Yang pointed to his fishing rod and gave a brief introduction.
"Goodness, this hook is as big as my fist. How big a fish are you planning to catch?"
"Live bait fishing? That’s going to draw some curses from those anglers who claim to have standards."
Seeing the comments in the streaming feed, Lin Yang smiled, "I’ve always been indifferent about the method when it comes to recreational fishing. To me, finding a way to catch the fish is the greatest success, whether using fake bait or live bait. Our target this afternoon is the large Dogtooth Gold Spearfish. Let’s see if we get lucky."
Luck will definitely be involved, but catching the right fish is uncertain.
After Lin Yang hooked the live bait and it sank, there was no activity, but soon after Yue’er cast her line, the situation quickly changed.
"Brother Yang, I think I’ve got a bite. Come quick." Yue’er held the rod, and the fishing reel’s drag system was spinning out line frantically.
At a depth close to one hundred meters, the fish made a mad dash after the bite. With Yue’er’s lack of experience, she didn’t adjust the drag immediately, and before she knew it, the fish had wrapped itself around an obstacle.
The first fish wasn’t landed; the only option was to break off the leader line and tie a new one.
"What’s going on? Why was it fine before and then suddenly it wouldn’t move?" Yue’er still hadn’t recovered from losing the fish; her expression filled with confusion.
"There are obstacles below. With this kind of terrain, you can’t let out line after hooking a fish; you need to pull the fish up to a certain height first, then you can release line to reduce tension." Lin Yang explained.
"I see, what a pity."
"Where exactly did it happen? Right at the bottom, or a certain depth above the bottom?" Lin Yang asked further.
"About ten meters off the bottom. Why do you ask?"
Lin Yang’s face lit up with understanding and he nodded, "Got it. If bottom fishing doesn’t work later, I’ll try checking the water column as well."
True to his word, there was indeed nothing biting at the very bottom.
Now he started to think. Since there were no bites at the bottom, why not check the water column near where Yue’er had her encounter.
With that in mind, Lin Yang slightly adjusted the drag, then began pulling in the line bit by bit from the depths.
Under the influence of the lead weight, the entire rig was fairly taut, giving a semblance of suspended fishing where you search for the right depth in midwater.
He searched continuously from about five meters off the bottom to ten meters, fifteen meters, and even up to about twenty meters, but found nothing. Could it be that the bait fish had slipped off the hook? Given the hooking technique and the barbs on the hook, that shouldn’t happen, right?
"Lin Yang, bro, what are you doing? Keeping reeling in, did you catch a fish?" Wang Feng asked curiously.
Lin Yang replied, "I’ve pulled the rig up to a position off the bottom, trying to search the water column, but so far nothing."
"Bottom fishing and searching the water column? With the lead weight making the line straight, isn’t it tiring to keep the rod held up?" Wang Feng asked again, curious.
"The resistance isn’t that bad. I’m just trying it out, flying by the seat of my pants."
While the two of them were talking, Lin Yang’s slightly tilted rod suddenly bent under a strong force. If it weren’t for the safety tether on the rod, it would have been yanked from his hands.
He had hooked a fish, and it was a big one!
Almost by reflex, he quickly tugged the rod back, his right hand pulling back, and his left hand grabbing the rod handle. He swiftly reversed hands, securing the fishing rod in his grip.
The unseen fish underwater was extremely violent. It surged forward, and the sound of the line being stripped was incessant. Although he had caught the rod, the tremendous force of the line being pulled had completely flattened it.
Seeing this, Lin Yang directly rested the bottom of the rod against his abdomen, both hands grasping the rod handles tightly, struggling to keep the rod at a high angle, temporarily stabilizing the situation.
The big fish was still pulling out line. From the moment it bit to now, only four or five seconds had passed, yet already half of the 300 meters of line had disappeared from the spool. If the fish kept running, it would soon be spooled.
Lin Yang, an experienced angler of large fish, quickly realized this and hurriedly tightened the drag near to the locking point, grasping the rod tightly and trying to reel in line.
The high-end fishing reel performed flawlessly at this moment. Even though the fish was very powerful, the feel of reeling in through the gears was smooth and unimpeded.
He put his full strength into it,, yet turning the reel handle was exceedingly difficult, and the battle reached a standoff.
"Lin Yang, bro, can you handle it alone, or do you need me to help?" Wang Feng assessed Lin Yang’s situation and offered his help.
Even though a man shouldn’t admit defeat, it was clear that they had hooked a big fish.
"She’s definitely not small, but I can hold on for now," Lin Yang said while unhesitatingly tightening the drag to the verge of locking. Facing a big fish and with no issues in his gear setup, he could afford to be a bit bold.
However, he couldn’t keep the drag locked all the time. Once the fish’s thrust below the water subsided, he had to dial back the drag slightly, and then started reeling in line again.
