Chapter 271: Chapter 163: Fly Fishing_4
So, taking advantage of the last three days, Lin Yang and his friends planned to go out for another round of fun.
The final destination, Lugu Lake, is located at the border between Yunnan and Xichuan, and since it’s still quite far from Kunming where they were, they had to set off early.
The three leisurely enjoyed Yunnan-style lemongrass grilled fish at a restaurant while discussing where to visit next.
"How about it, it’s the last few days in Yunnan Province, is there somewhere else you guys want to go?" Lin Yang picked up a piece of fish and put it in his mouth.
It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, blending the flavor of lemongrass perfectly, and it was delicious.
Yue’er tilted her head and thought for a moment, "It feels like every place in Yunnan is a beautiful scene, there’s no particular need to go anywhere specific to enjoy ourselves."
Li Xiaopeng, who had been eating voraciously, looked up and said, "I have two places I want to visit, one is Xishuangbanna and the other is Lijiang!"
Lin Yang thought for a moment, "Both are very famous tourist attractions in Yunnan, but we only have time to visit one, um... let’s go to Lijiang, shall we?"
Lijiang is part of Yunnan Province, located on the southeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau on the Northwest Plateau of Yunnan. It boasts outstanding tourism resources, biological resources, and hydroenergy resources, with three major river systems flowing through it: the Jinsha River Water System and the Yalong River System from the Yangtze River Basin, and the Heihui River System from the Lancang River Basin.
Also, Lijiang is closer to Lugu Lake, and there are also many attractions there, such as Lijiang Ancient City, Yulong Snow Mountain, Shuhe Ancient Town, Shangri-La...
Lin Yang and his friends only had three days, plus the travel time, so they might not even finish exploring one Lijiang.
"Let’s do that!"
"I agree too."
Li Xiaopeng and Yue’er fully agreed with Lin Yang’s suggestion.
Having made their decision, the three set off directly for Lijiang.
...
That evening, they drove from Kunming to Lijiang.
They found a decent hotel, settled in, and then went out to explore early the next day.
Although they were going out to explore, Lin Yang was planning on fishing in the various rivers of Lijiang.
They would be leaving Yunnan in a few days, of course, they wanted to take this opportunity to catch as many different types of fish as possible, since it’s hard to find another place in the country with such developed river systems and rich fish resources like Yunnan.
Lin Yang drove along a road in Lijiang, with a broad river beside him, where the water flow was rapid. This type of water system was not suitable for fishing, and the surface of the water was also dense with various sizes of boats.
To catch rare fish species, they would need to go to some tributaries.
After driving for another ten minutes or so, they arrived at a small town in Lijiang, seeing the signpost by the roadside marked with the words ’Yaoshan Town.’
The architecture of the towns in Lijiang was completely different from the small towns near Lin Yang’s hometown; here, buildings with high spires and an ancient charm were commonplace, and these wooden buildings were everywhere. The pedestrians, aside from some tourists, were locals dressed in ethnic attire.
Finding a place to park the car, Yue’er decided to explore the town by herself, while Lin Yang and another person planned to go fishing by the riverside.
The two brought their fishing gear to a spot where two rivers converged, forming a sizable pool that seemed to be teeming with fish.
Having set down their equipment, they each prepared to fish.
Li Xiaopeng decided to try spinning; ever since he caught baby fish in a cave last time, he had become interested in spinning and casting.
However, Lin Yang wasn’t planning on spinning or using a conventional rod this time; instead, he took a rod from his bag that looked a bit like a spinning rod but was actually a fly rod.
In this kind of water, both spinning and fly rods are very suitable for fishing for predatory fish in the stream.
But as for fly fishing, Lin Yang only knew a bit about it, and he had never tried it before; this was his first time.
In fact, the techniques of fly fishing and spinning appear quite similar on the surface; both involve casting and using fake bait on the line to catch some of the more predatory fish.
However, if we must distinguish, there are significant differences.
Spinning allows for casting a long distance with each throw, while fly fishing with a light fly at the front is more strenuous to cast a long distance at once.
So, you have to pull out several meters of the line initially, then slowly release the line, repeating several times before achieving the purpose of a long-distance cast.
Moreover, the fly line setup is not a single line, but consists of three parts.
The first part is a nylon line wound inside the fly reel as a backing line, which is stronger and more flexible, and can be used as a reserve line when catching big fish.
The second part is the main line connected on top of the backing, which needs to be specialized for fly fishing, and is divided into sinking and floating lines for catching fish in middle or surface waters with strong predatory tendencies.
The third part is the leader, mainly used to connect under the main line, usually over a meter long, mostly made of strong, transparent nylon.
Having picked up their fishing gear, Lin Yang originally wanted to start a live broadcast, but he thought better of it and decided just to have Li Xiaopeng record a video for him.
At that moment, Li Xiaopeng also noticed that the rod in his hand seemed different: "Cousin, what kind of rod is that you’re using?"
"It’s a fly rod, first time seeing one, huh?"
"How do you use this thing?"
"Just watch from the side, and remember to keep your distance."
