Chapter 259: Chapter 160: Baby Fish Go Up_3
This area is located between the Nu River and the Yarlung Zangbo River, and the three travelers headed upstream, their elevation gradually increasing as they passed numerous magnificent waterfalls and other beautiful scenes.
Soon, they arrived in front of a massive mountain, whose summit could be seen towering into the clouds from afar, appearing incredibly majestic.
"Magnificent!"
The trio gazed up at the great mountain from a distance, marveling at it.
"Let’s fish first, and if we have time, we can go up the mountain," one suggested.
"Sounds good, let’s go!"
After finding a spot to park their car, the trio got out and directly entered the forest beside the road.
Between the forests ran a river, many parts of which flowed underground to form subterranean rivers, with many others flowing into the caves in the mountains, creating karst landscapes.
After a discussion, they decided to try fishing in a karst cave up ahead.
Yunnan’s karst topography is nationally famous. Going fishing inside it could potentially yield new fish species and offer different scenic views, killing two birds with one stone.
After overcoming numerous obstacles, the three finally reached their destination—a huge, seemingly bottomless cave from which the sound of dripping water echoed.
Mysterious and beautiful, yet with a hint of tension from the unknown.
The trio prepared themselves and then descended into the karst cave. As they went further, the light inside grew dimmer, but luckily, they were prepared, with Lin Yang and Li Xiaopeng each wearing a headlamp.
Yue’er walked in the middle as the three ventured deeper into the cave.
The sound of flowing water was pleasant to the ear, and its continual echoing inside the cave gave the sensation of being inside a music box, utterly captivating.
Above them, stalactites hung down, skillfully carved by nature, a true wonder of the natural world.
About a hundred meters in, they stopped at an open area where crystal clear spring water pooled into a pond in front of them.
Lin Yang cautiously approached, then shone his headlamp into the pond, realizing it was incredibly deep, likely over a hundred meters, with the water below turning pitch black, seemingly bottomless.
Moreover, the pond was connected in all directions, as if numerous underground rivers led in various directions.
Despite the great risks posed by such ponds, they were rich in fish, including some very large specimens.
"Let’s fish here, but be careful. Yue’er, you can just play in the back," Lin Yang said, placing his gear down before he started getting ready.
Due to the profound depth of the pond, they opted not for platform fishing, but for rock fishing rod instead.
As mentioned before, a rock fishing rod is similar to a commonly known sea rod, only more advanced. It can be used in both land-based waters and the sea.
Its pole is longer and lighter, featuring more guide-rings, and offering better flexibility. With a rock fishing rod, you can extend the line indefinitely, casting as far as your strength allows, and fish as deep as you desire without hassle.
After setting up the fishing gear, Lin Yang took a plastic bag from his backpack, which, unexpectedly, was full of peanuts and sunflower seeds.
"What... are you planning to eat seeds while we fish?" Li Xiaopeng looked puzzled at Lin Yang.
"Of course not, this is my bait mix."
Lin Yang explained as he filled a net pouch with peanuts and sunflower seeds, added a rock, and attached it with a rope before throwing it into the water.
"You’re using that for bait?"
Li Xiaopeng soon realized, "You’re not trying to catch the Sunflower Seed Fish, the Four-whiskered Barbel, are you?"
"Exactly, the Sunflower Seed Fish, Four-whiskered Barbel."
"You’re really optimistic, but I checked online after that day, this fish has become extremely rare in the wild, almost impossible to find. Are you sure you can catch it?" Li Xiaopeng asked hesitantly.
"Not sure, but I want to give it a try."
They had begun fishing during their conversation.
Li Xiaopeng used his recently favored bait—earthworms.
Lin Yang, on the other hand, hooked a peanut directly on his line, using the same bait he used for chumming, which could lower the fish’s guard by preventing them from just nibbling on the chum without biting the bait.
Especially the wild fish in caves, which were always cautious, he did not want to miss the chance to catch a rare species due to a minor mistake.
Lin Yang cast his rock fishing rod, and as the line unspooled with a whir, the bait quickly sank.
It descended dozens of meters in depth.
In terms of this pond, that depth was just the upper-middle layer, also where the most fish congregated.
Using a rock fishing rod, Lin Yang did not use a float; he just watched the tip of the rod.
If a fish took the bait, the rod tip would shake, and he could immediately react.
While Lin Yang awaited a bite in silence, it was not long before Li Xiaopeng’s rod began to move.
"Heh, I’m going to catch one first again."
As he spoke, he jerked the rod sharply, and a loud unspooling sound followed.
"Wow, this fish is really strong."
Li Xiaopeng held the fishing rod tightly with one hand and was about to tighten the reel with the other.
Seeing his actions, Lin Yang immediately intervened, "Don’t lock the reel yet; this fish seems large, locking it might snap the line."
Heeding the advice, Li Xiaopeng quickly stopped his hands and gripped the rod, struggling against the fish.
The fish below continued to struggle fiercely, rapidly spooling out line!
"How deep is the water here, it keeps taking line but doesn’t swim away, it’s just diving deeper." Li Xiaopeng wondered aloud as he continued the fight.
