Chapter 186: Chapter 140: Fishing Across the Country_3
It was only by doing this that he could keep unlocking new fish species, and at the same time, he could keep racking up points, ensuring that his rice wine factory continued to operate.
Having made up his mind, Lin Yang planned to set out tomorrow; after all, the affairs at home were already arranged nearly to completion.
.....
The next morning, he set off.
When he bid farewell to the elderly couple, they didn’t say much, only mentioning that he should come back for the opening of the fish restaurant, and then again in a month for his cousin’s wedding.
Of course, Lin Yang’s fishing journey wasn’t just a solo venture; there were two additional people in his Tank 300 vehicle.
One was Yue’er, his little assistant, who, of course, had to accompany him, especially since he would be livestreaming and such during the fishing trip.
And the other was his cousin, Li Xiaopeng.
Before departing, Lin Yang had sent a message to him, asking if he wanted to join the fishing trip, and without a word of hesitance, Li Xiaopeng headed straight over.
To this, Lin Yang was quite pleased because Yue’er wasn’t great at driving, and with Li Xiaopeng there, he had another person to take turns driving.
"Cousin, I kinda regret this, I didn’t expect to become your driver as soon as I arrived," Li Xiaopeng said with a hint of gloom, yet still obediently took the role of driver.
Along the way, the three of them chatted and laughed in the car.
Lin Yang decided to make Xiang Province the first stop of his nationwide fishing tour because he had to make a trip to Dongting Lake in a week’s time.
The group made the long journey without much fatigue, with Li Xiaopeng and Lin Yang taking turns driving.
Since Jiangxi and Hunan were close to each other, they arrived in Xiang Province in less than a day’s time.
At the moment, they were in Tansha City, at the foot of Yuelu Mountain, where the three of them immediately found a decent hotel to rest for the night.
Even though they had heard that Tansha City’s nightlife was rich and the local snacks were special and delicious, all three chose to rest immediately due to the fatigue of the journey.
....
Early the next day.
Rejuvenated, Lin Yang and Yue’er stepped out, ready to begin their first fishing session of the trip.
Driving around Tansha City aimlessly, they admired the urban scenery of this southwestern metropolis; it was the first time for all three, so everything about the environment and local customs felt novel to them.
"They say Tansha is full of spicy girls, and it sure is true," Li Xiaopeng remarked, his gaze sweeping across the crowds on the streets.
Lin Yang rolled his eyes, even though the streets were indeed filled with beauties, he thought it inappropriate given there was a lady in the car, and Yue’er’s appearance was in no way inferior to those boldly dressed women on the streets.
The three of them roamed the city for half a day and while passing a large bridge, Lin Yang and Li Xiaopeng were both captivated.
"What a wide river, I wonder if fishing is allowed?"
"Could this be the Xiangjiang? The largest water system in Tansha should be the Xiangjiang."
"If it’s the Xiangjiang, does that mean fishing is prohibited? I heard that major water systems connected to the Yangtze River have a ban on fishing."
"It’s not a ban per se, but there seem to be a lot of restrictions, like you can only fish from a pier and can only use one hook, and so on."
"Let me check the map..."
The two of them went back and forth ever since they caught sight of the massive river, thoroughly intrigued.
Fishermen are like that, there’s a saying that goes: ’A fisherman crossing the Naihe Bridge can’t help but think of casting a few lines into the Yellow Springs below.’
Although it was said in jest, it was enough to illustrate the angler’s love for natural waterways.
Li Xiaopeng looked at the map and said, "This is indeed the Xiangjiang River, but if we go left, there’s a detour that leads down to the Liuyang River. I’ve checked before; we can fish there."
"The Liuyang River?"
Lin Yang was somewhat familiar with the name; it was one of the well-known major rivers in Xiang Province.
"Then it’s settled, Liuyang River, let’s go."
Lin Yang drove straight to the destination indicated by the GPS, arriving at a tributary beside the Yangtze River — the Liuyang River.
Though it was a tributary, the width of the Liuyang River was impressive, even wider than any river in many big cities, and it had abundant water flow.
Furthermore, there were many bends along the Liuyang River, creating numerous spots suitable for fishing.
He found a place to park the car, and then the three of them headed directly to a spot near a big bridge. There were a few people taking a walk and one or two angling enthusiasts fishing nearby.
Looking at the wide expanse of the river in front of him, Lin Yang instantly felt immensely comfortable. No wonder anglers favored roving fishing; just being able to see such different scenery made him feel that it was worth it.
He turned to Yue’er beside him, "Yue’er, what do you think of this place?"
"It’s beautiful, I like it."
"Can we have a blast here?"
"We can." Yue’er clenched her small fist, seemingly very confident about having a blast.
Though she didn’t often accompany Lin Yang to fish, she had still fished a few times and understood fishing terms like having a blast.
For this outing, he had even prepared a set of fishing gear for her specifically.
Lin Yang surveyed the area; the water looked rather shallow with no big fish below, but there were plenty of small fish.
So, the three of them took out various fishing equipment from the car and set up shop to start fishing.
Li Xiaopeng was very ambitious and set up a pole that was seven meters and two centimeters long, seeming to aim for big fish, while Lin Yang opted for a rod that was four meters and five centimeters long, which looked a bit out of place by the vast banks of the river.
Of course, Yue’er’s rod was even smaller, measuring a mere three meters and six centimeters.
The trio began to fish right where they were.
Lin Yang was very Zen, casually setting up a float at a depth where it barely touched the bottom. Due to his shorter rod and the shallow water, which was only about two meters deep.
In such a large river, fishing close and shallow often meant no big fish.
But this fitted right into his plans, big fish were, after all, rare, needing to be waited for, and often required baiting the spot in advance.
However, they had come here in a rush, so pre-baiting the spot was out of the question, and they didn’t have time to wait for very long. So, they might as well settle for the next best thing and start with the smaller fish.
Lin Yang’s full rig consisted of a short rod, fine line, small hook, and the bait was just ordinary commercial bait mixed with a bit of his own sake lees.
At a glance, he appeared to be just an ordinary angler, nothing like a "Master."
Li Xiaopeng, his companion, was fully equipped, with a rod that was seven meters and two centimeters long, a big number 8 Ishiyaki hook, several blocks of ground bait prepared, and using pellets and corn as bait.
His set-up seemed determined to battle it out with the big fish to the bitter end.
Yue’er, too, followed in Lin Yang’s footsteps, with an even smaller rod and fishing rig, also using commercial bait mixed with a bit of sake lees.
