Chapter 167: Chapter 134: Planting the Gun Barrel - 2
After finishing, he conveniently turned the camera to give his live streaming friends a look at the surrounding environment and scenery.
"Wow, what’s that? That pole must be over twenty meters long, right?"
"No kidding, I see it too. Compared to that, Master Lin’s rod looks like a stick used for stoking fires."
"You guys know nothing. I’m from around Taihu, and that’s called a ’big cannon’ rod, a unique style of fishing local to our area."
The viewers were initially shocked by the size of the poles used by the local elders, but soon a local viewer started to explain.
Lin Yang interacted with his viewers for a while, and then he began the actual fishing.
As usual, he first cast the bait into the water.
The taste preferences of freshwater fish are limited; a pungent bait mix for Crucian Carp would suffice.
He started by using a heavy sinker to test the water depth. Fortunately, the underwater terrain was very flat, with a depth of around one and a half meters in a radius of five to six meters, ideal for platform fishing.
Continuing as usual, he prepared the bait mix, established a casting frequency, and pulled up dozens of rods before moving on.
However, his target fish lived at various depths this time. For instance, redfin pickerel, Shi fish, and White Fish were like the upturned-mouth fish, predators living in the middle and upper layers, whereas Eastern Blowfish lived at the bottom.
So this time, he needed to observe the initial fish activity before developing some corresponding strategies.
Time passed slowly, and over half an hour had gone since he baited the spot.
The small area of water in front of Lin Yang, clouded by the spray-dissolving bait, had spread to the surrounding waters. If no fish were to show up now, it would be against all reason.
He hooked another bait and cast his line.
The moment the float stabilized, it immediately signaled a bite.
He struck to hook the fish!
Lin Yang lifted the rod and instantly pulled a small fish resembling a striped variety ashore.
This was a Shortjawed anchovy, a species unique to the Yangtze River basin. Although rare elsewhere, it’s quite common here in Taihu Lake.
So, Lin Yang’s first catch being a Shortjawed anchovy wasn’t surprising.
Having caught a mid-upper layer fish right off the bat, he quickly adjusted his float, raising it by about half a meter.
He switched to surface fishing.
Since the bait had attracted fish, it was now time for catching them. He switched from kneading to pulling bait, significantly reducing the time spent baiting the hook.
With his continuous casting and reeling, he caught one small fish after another.
Moreover, as he caught more, the fish he landed gradually grew larger.
Another bite, and with a flick of the wrist, Lin Yang set the hook, landing a large fish similar to an upturned-mouth fish.
He recognized the fish in an instant. It was a White Fish, roughly two pounds.
White Fish is a species endemic to China, found throughout the rivers of the country and one of the main economic fish of Taihu Lake, collectively known as "Taihu’s Four Treasures" with the "Taihu Three Treasures."
Its characteristics include fast growth, large size—with some individuals growing over 10 kilograms—fierce nature, few bones, tender flesh, delicious flavor, and high nutritional value.
Wild-caught White Fish has always been considered a premium delicacy, quite expensive, but in recent years, aquaculture experts have effectively solved its reproductive issues, leading to large-scale farming across many parts of the country.
After catching the White Fish, Lin Yang checked the rewards in the fish index. Unfortunately, there were only cash and experience points, no other special rewards.
As he unlocked more and more types of aquatic produce, he also realized that obtaining special rewards was becoming increasingly difficult.
After unlocking the White Fish, Lin Yang changed his fishing method again, switching back to bottom fishing, changing pulling back to kneading, and he replenished his baiting spot.
He was now going to target the bottom-dwelling fish of Taihu Lake.
Lin Yang’s continuous casting had naturally attracted the attention of several elders nearby.
At first, they had been skeptical of Lin Yang’s platform fishing, but within less than an hour, Lin Yang had maintained a steady stream of catches since he started.
The sight of his success was enough to make anyone envious.
Especially the elder in the duckbill cap who had helped with the rods earlier, he became restless and came over smiling. And he wasn’t the only one—several elders from the park behind also gathered around.
"Young man, you’re doing quite well here. I didn’t expect that you could catch so much with that short rod of yours."
Lin Yang replied with a smile, "Just luck, pure luck."
As he spoke, he flicked his wrist to land another fish. It was a Hua Quan, weighing about three or four taels.
Hua Quan is a common fish in rivers and lakes, usually living in the slower current of the middle and lower layers, and commonly inhabits clear water with a muddy bottom.
It has a varied diet, mainly scraping benthic invertebrates from pebbles with its lower jaw, along with algae, plant debris, and aquatic insects.
Catching such a relatively common fish naturally didn’t come with any special rewards.
Seeing Lin Yang hook another fish so soon, the elder who had just spoken blinked and fell silent.
Lin Yang himself was somewhat frustrated. After preparing such a good bait spot, why were only ordinary fish biting, and not anything better?
