Chapter 164: Chapter 133: Fishing in Taihu_2
"Calling somebody ’daddy’ illegal? Surely not."
Seeing this situation, not only the live stream viewers were baffled, but Lin Yang’s mind was also in complete disarray.
What on earth was going on? Why was he suddenly taken away?
Lin Yang calmed himself down, then said to the live stream viewers, "I have no idea what’s happening either, let’s ask Boss Tang. It seemed like the police officers were talking to him about something just now, maybe he knows something."
Driven by curiosity, he went to find Boss Tang.
As soon as he voiced his doubts, Boss Tang immediately curled his lip in disdain and said, "That kid is a junkie, he’s been caught by the police and I bet one of his cronies snitched on him. So young, yet instead of doing something decent, he goes and messes with that life-threatening stuff. Getting arrested on the opening day, what a jinx!"
That cleared it up—no wonder Lin Yang had felt that this spirited young fellow was a bit off in logic in speech and behavior from their first encounter. So that’s where the problem lay, his brain must’ve been damaged by the drugs.
Having received this answer, Lin Yang scratched his head and turned back to his fishing spot.
"Got the answer folks, this guy broke the law and the police have been on to him for a while; it’s got nothing to do with calling out ’daddy’. Let this be a warning to all the viewers in the live stream, have fun but don’t engage in illegal activities or this is what you end up with."
"No wonder, eh? ’Society people’ doing ’society things’, and before you know it, you’re in the clinker."
"It’s not so easy being a spirited young guy. Just work hard, live well, and when you’ve got free time, why not fish for relaxation? Isn’t that nice?"
The live stream viewers were still discussing the recent event when Xia Xiaoxue walked over from the opposite side.
Xia Xiaoxue: "Master Lin, you made a fortune today, you must treat us tonight."
Lin Yang nodded, "Sure, I owe it to your equipment today, otherwise I wouldn’t have caught so much. By the way, how many pounds did you catch? Have they announced the weighing results yet?"
"Caught a total of 8 fish, 4 big ones, adding up to around 140 pounds, more than both my neighbors. They haven’t announced the final results yet, but I think I should make it into the top 10. The bait and nest materials you prepared really did the trick, they worked great!"
With the big fish fetching 10 dollars a pound, 140 pounds would net 1400 dollars.
If she could make it into the top 10, even the tenth place has a prize of 2000 dollars. Calculating this way, Xia Xiaoxue shouldn’t be at too much of a loss.
But for her, losing or making money wasn’t a big deal. Today, she caught the most fish since she started fishing; she wouldn’t feel at a loss even if she didn’t earn a single cent.
About ten minutes later, the results for all the participating anglers were compiled.
A large red board announced the names and total weights of the top 20 anglers in glittering gold paint, with Lin Yang leading by a large margin with a total weight of 389.7 pounds.
On another side, under the category "Heaviest Single Fish," there was only one name: Lin Yang.
One leaderboard, two first places; Lin Yang alone claimed first place for Heaviest Single Fish and Total Weight, a dual champion!
"Attention all participating anglers, please gather under the stage in 5 minutes for the award ceremony!"
The event controller’s loudspeaker called out again, and Lin Yang packed up all his fishing gear and, together with Xia Xiaoxue, made their way to the makeshift award ceremony stage.
Xia Xiaoxue’s result was good too, ranked eighth with a prize of 4000 dollars plus the 1400 dollars income from selling the fish. After deducting the entry fee, she made a clear profit of 2400 dollars, a trip well worth the effort.
Next, the award presentation unfolded in a standard fashion. Boss Tang gave a brief opening speech, filled with thanks, and then distributed the competition prize money in envelopes, starting from the tenth place upward.
After the first nine recipients had received their prizes, it was finally time for the heavyweight champion’s award.
"Now, could we please have Mr. Lin Yang, the champion of this BMW Cup, come to the stage for his prize!"
Lin Yang had been waiting for quite a while at the bottom, and many people had already left by the time he ascended the stage.
Once on stage, Boss Tang handed him a microphone: "Mr. Lin, please introduce yourself first, let everyone get to know you a bit better."
Lin Yang smiled and said, "Hello everyone, my name is Lin Yang, from Jiangdong City, Jiangxi Province, and I currently work as a fishing live streamer. I happened to come to Suzhou this time and participated in this competition by chance, and I am very happy to have won."
"Mr. Lin’s fishing skills are exceptional! It’s no wonder for a fishing live streamer. Today you’ve lived up to expectations, sweeping both the Heaviest Single Fish and Total Weight categories. Could you now share with us about today’s fishing conditions?"
Lin Yang: "Regarding today’s competition, I think luck played a big part. I drew the south bank’s middle spot number 46, and I feel the advantage of the fishing spot influenced at least 50% or even more of the final results."
Today what I used was similar to what most anglers did. In the early stage, I built some nests by hand throwing, and then kept adding particles with a throwing spoon."
The fishing conditions weren’t fast in the first few hours, and the fish I caught were mostly the five or six-pound carps from the original pond. Later, the bigger fish started biting, and I landed a few bites.
At that moment, the conditions felt pretty calm to me, and I wasn’t leading by much. But fishing for big fish is all about patience, so you need to have plenty of it.
The tide turned some time after 10 a.m., when I suddenly noticed that my spot was teeming with tiny ripples from fish activity, signaling that catfish had arrived. I made a quick decision to adjust my technique from bottom fishing to float fishing. The native pond catfish each weighed over fifteen pounds; this shoal of catfish skyrocketed my total. By lunchtime, I caught over ten of them, and at that point, I knew that unless something unexpected happened, I should be pretty stable for the first place in total weight."
