Chapter 157: Chapter 131: Refresh Record
After taking a deep breath, he took out his nest spoon and replenished the nest with several scoops, shifting the bait’s landing point from directly in front of the previously set 8-part rod spot about one meter to the left, away from the direction of the spirited young guy.
"Damn, this kid is pretty wild."
"Spirited young guy? If my dad saw me dressed like this, he’d definitely break my legs."
"Host, don’t indulge his bad habits. Just go over and slap him twice, and that’ll fix him right up."
Lin Yang took several deep breaths to suppress his anger and said, "Forget it, let’s focus on the competition, don’t stoop to his level for now."
It was uncertain whether it was the effect of the continually cast pellets or just luck, but as soon as he moved his fishing position, the float dipped again.
However, the bite wasn’t decisive. After sinking, it didn’t stabilize but quickly bounced back up.
This type of float usually indicates a low chance of a fish being hooked, as it’s likely the fish took the bait and then promptly spat it out.
Lin Yang exhaled and didn’t strike. Subsequently, there were no more movements.
He didn’t make much of it and after waiting a few more minutes, he changed to fresh bait, still using a hook with ear dough and another with a rubber band pellet.
Once the bait settled, a similar movement occurred; the float bobbed slightly then stopped again.
What was happening? Could it be small fish causing trouble?
That shouldn’t be the case.
With this in mind, Lin Yang removed the red, pungent sturgeon pellet and switched both hooks to dough bait sized like the ones he had just been wrapping.
This time, the float’s reaction was much clearer. After a half-sink, it did not rebound but continued to sink stealthily down.
With the float fully submerged, Lin Yang naturally did not wait longer and set the hook forcefully!
Instantly, he felt a snag, as if the hook had caught on a submerged rotten tree root, motionless under the water.
"Damn, snagged on the bottom? Unlikely. I’ve been casting to this spot several times, there’s no way. Besides, the bite was obvious."
It might be that he hooked into a sturgeon!
Hooking into a large fish’s lair is not uncommon, and Lin Yang had encountered similar situations while fishing in reservoirs before.
With this thought, he said to the viewers in the live stream, "It might be snagged in a lair, seems like a big one. I’ll try the old method first."
The next second, Lin Yang tensed the rod as much as possible and then started patting with one hand while holding the rod with the other.
The thumping sound, like beating cotton, caused the rod to vibrate, which transmitted down the fishing line to the submerged spot.
Though it didn’t seem loud to observers, it was quite stimulating for the fish. After about a dozen slaps, the fish underwater began to move.
"It’s moving, seems like a big one. A few hits of cotton and the host clears it up nice and clear."
"What kind of fish is it? The nibbling looked hesitant, as if being very cautious."
Lin Yang guessed it was probably a carp, and not a very large one at that. The brute force it displayed when snagged felt terrifying, but once it started swimming, it seemed less formidable than the first big fish.
"This fish isn’t very large, about ten plus pounds. The line I’m using is strong enough; I’ll just haul it up."
Although Lin Yang had managed to suppress his anger from the earlier squabble, it had still affected him a bit and he temporarily decided to rely on his heavier line and hook to forcefully land the fish.
In the next moment, Lin Yang lifted the rod slowly over his head with both hands and began playing the fish with grand movements.
Seeing him landing a fish, the spirited young guy next to him became envious, staring blankly for a moment before silently scooping up almost a whole spoonful of pellets with a shovel-sized nest spoon and casting it into his own nesting spot.
Others land fish while he replenishes his nest; he was sneakily up to no good. Lin Yang squinted at him then continued power-playing the fish.
The drawback of heavy line being longer than the rod is that pulling the fish out of the water can be difficult.
After several attempts and stepping back a few steps, Lin Yang finally managed to surface the fish. From hooking to landing, it took only a minute or two, which was quite fast.
Sure enough, it was a carp, roughly over ten pounds. After choking on some water, it calmed down a bit and he pulled it to shore right into the landing net.
Lin Yang lifted the net to take a closer look and couldn’t help laughing!
No wonder this fish seemed so cautious when taking the bait; aside from his hook in its mouth, there was another large hook hanging at the corner of its mouth, which looked to be about a size 13 Ishiyaki.
The handcrafted Ishiyaki fishhook, with its blue plating and the fine heat shrink tubing over the hook shank, had its subline broken off near the end of the shank.
Any fish would be hesitant to bite with a hook already in its mouth, as it had already learned its lesson.
Holding up the fish for his live stream viewers, Lin Yang said, "Haha, check this out guys, this fish has another hook in its mouth. I don’t know whose fish ran off, but it got caught by me soon after."
"Wow, indeed two hooks, no wonder it was so cautious when biting."
"A handcrafted 13 size Ishiyaki, that hook would cost at least two bucks apiece, haha..."
The spirited young guy next to him overheard Lin Yang’s somewhat mocking tone and took a closer look, just in time to see Lin Yang holding the hook he had just removed from the fish.
The blue plated hook body, triangular shaped hand-ground point, and a heat shrunk tube added to the hook shank afterward—it was the large specimen precision-tied subline that he himself had paid 10 yuan a pair for!
