Chapter 140: Chapter 126: Fishing for Alligator Gar
But just like he said, going fishing was fine, but he couldn’t possibly go help him fish for Alligator Gar every day after all, he did have serious business to attend to.
"Don’t worry about that, you just focus on fishing, I’ve already taken care of everything else," Wang Jian Guo said when he heard what Lin Yang had said.
"Alright, since you’ve resolved the issues, then I can go," Lin Yang agreed after hearing Wang Jian Guo’s words. Not to mention anything else, he himself had not yet fished for Crocodile Sparrowfish.
After hanging up the phone.
Since he had promised to help Wang Jian Guo fish for Alligator Gar tomorrow, Lin Yang’s earlier plan to buy a ticket to Suzhou had to be postponed for another couple of days.
He didn’t know how long it would take to catch all the Alligator Gar.
.....
The next day, Lin Yang got up early.
After washing up and having breakfast, Lin Yang reminded his parents again, then took his fishing gear and drove out.
This time he went directly to the Dongyang Fishing Ground, as Wang Jian Guo’s fishing ground and breeding pond were almost all connected.
By the time he arrived at the Dongyang Fishing Ground, it was just after seven o’clock, and Wang Jian Guo was already waiting for him.
"Lin Yang, little brother, I’m really putting you out this time!" Seeing Lin Yang’s car arrive, Wang Jian Guo came over to greet him proactively, then said with a grateful face.
"It’s nothing, we’re friends, it’s no big deal."
After hearing Wang Jian Guo’s words, Lin Yang smiled casually, then opened the trunk of his car.
However, this time he didn’t take his hand pole but rather took out his lure, which he had received as a reward a few days ago when fishing for a giant Catfish.
"A lure, will this equipment do the job?" Seeing Lin Yang’s gear, Wang Jian Guo couldn’t help but ask.
Not many in Jiangdong City used lures, and he had not seen Lin Yang use them before, so he couldn’t help but ask.
"Don’t worry, you have to use the right rod for the fish you’re fishing for. To catch Alligator Gar, a hand rod may not be as effective as a lure."
"By the way, Brother Jian Guo, could you bring over a few fish? Crucian Carp, Carp, any type will do, live ones under a pound are best."
Having used lures a few times now, Lin Yang had experience. When fishing for large, fierce species, live bait might be better than artificial bait.
"Sure, I’ll get them for you right now!"
Wang Jian Guo nodded promptly and went to another breeding pond. He scooped up several nets’ worth with a large net and quickly brought up six or seven fish.
However, these six or seven fish were not the Crucian Carp or Carp that Lin Yang had mentioned but rather the same Dinggui fish found in this breeding pond.
The Dinggui fish, scientifically known as Ding Sui (guì), is also called golden salmon, Ding Salmon, Dingyu Sui, and so on.
This fish is actually quite a special species. You could say it is local to our country, but the native species is only found in Xinjiang Province, and it’s not present in other parts of the country.
Most of the fish farmed domestically now come from stock imported from Europe, so you could say they are exotic, but they are also local.
This type of fish has a fair adaptability but requires high water quality and doesn’t grow very quickly.
In the wild, a two-year-old fish is only about three to four taels, and it takes three years to grow over half a pound. In natural waters, the largest individuals are said to reach 15 pounds, but hardly anyone has ever seen them, and they don’t grow especially fast in aquaculture either.
In the first year, they are about one to two taels, and in the second year, those raised well can reach under a pound, while those not raised as well are about half a pound to six taels.
Because of the long farming time and the fact that this fish is highly nutritious, the price of Dinggui fish has always been high. Generally, the selling price is between 40 to 60 yuan per pound, which is even more expensive than the Yellow Water Carp Wang Jian Guo had purchased before.
But this is normal, as the fry of these fish aren’t cheap either. For example, the fry that Wang Jian Guo purchased now are 6 to 8 centimeters long, and these fry are sold individually at more than 2 yuan each.
This price definitely classifies them as a very expensive fish.
There are a total of over a hundred thousand fish in this pond, and just the cost of the fry is over two hundred thousand yuan, not to mention the cost of cleaning the pond, fish medicine, and so on.
This pit alone would cost nearly 300,000 yuan, a sum of money that he truly couldn’t afford to lose.
"I didn’t expect you to have big Dinggui fish here; I’ll try fishing for a couple later," Lin Yang said with a smile, seeing Wang Jian Guo scoop up big Dinggui fish to use as bait for him.
But now wasn’t the time to think about these things.
Lin Yang picked up a Dinggui fish weighing about seven or eight taels, then carefully chose a fish hook, passing it through the side of the fish’s neck, skillfully avoiding the spine to keep the fish alive a bit longer so it wouldn’t die immediately.
Then he threw the fish into the pond and began to slowly reel in and let out the line.
Watching Lin Yang’s movements, Wang Jian Guo and the others at his side all looked on.
There were a few others fishing in the same pond, but they were all using hand poles.
Seeing Lin Yang using a lure here, they all found it rather novel. They had tried lure fishing initially but, to be honest, didn’t quite grasp it.
For them, they could get a fish with a hand pole, but with lures, they really couldn’t seem to catch anything.
So they hadn’t been very keen on lure fishing, and even now that Lin Yang was using a lure, they didn’t believe he could actually catch the Crocodile Sparrowfish in the pond with it.
