The Time-Limited Love and Marriage -
Chapter 138
Chapter 138: Chapter 138
On Monday, Ling Hua’s baseline test scores were released.
Nearly every subject, she was above the passing line.
Her ranking in the entire school even improved by five hundred places.
This should have been an inspiring and exhilarating event.
But Ling Hua’s homeroom teacher, Wang Juan, couldn’t believe that these were scores Ling Hua could have achieved on her own, so she specifically called Ling Hua to her office.
"Student Ling, I originally thought you just weren’t capable academically, but I never expected your conduct to be problematic too!"
As soon as Ling Hua entered the office, Teacher Wang lambasted her without preamble.
Ling Hua was baffled by the scolding and asked Teacher Wang, "Teacher Wang, what’s wrong with my conduct?"
Without answering, Teacher Wang threw the freshly printed ranking list at her to see for herself.
Ling Hua saw that she had jumped five hundred places in one go and immediately lit up with joy.
"Sister Moxi really is an expert; she made my grades soar."
Her grades were now considered above average in the whole school.
If she could strive a little harder, perhaps she might climb even higher in the college entrance exams.
Just as Ling Hua was eager to share the news with Jiang Moxi, Teacher Wang’s chilly voice came again: "Tell me honestly, whose paper did you copy from in class?"
"Teacher Wang, I didn’t copy anyone’s paper; I’ve just recently hired a new tutor," Ling Hua explained.
But Teacher Wang didn’t believe her words: "A new tutor can raise your bottom-of-the-class grades to a mid-high level? You’re not even trying to make your lies sound plausible! If you don’t tell the truth, I’ll have to call your parents."
"Teacher Wang, I swear I’m not lying. My new tutor is really good at simplifying things, making it clear at a glance, so studying becomes a lot easier."
But no matter what Ling Hua said, Teacher Wang still took it as a joke.
"If your new tutor were really that great, she’d have been employed as a school teacher by now, rather than condescend to be a tutor."
"Teacher Wang, my tutor is currently still attending university. Though she’s only studying at a Technical College, she’s truly excellent at teaching. The topics from the lectures that I didn’t understand, I get as soon as she explains them."
Hearing that this so-called new tutor was a student at Technical College, Teacher Wang became even more convinced that Ling Hua was lying to her.
She immediately rebuked Ling Hua: "Enough, since you refuse to tell the truth, I will now call your parents and your new tutor here for a face-to-face confrontation."
An hour later, Fu Youhan was wheeled into the office by Chi Jing.
Teacher Wang looked at Fu Youhan, her eyebrows furrowed: "May I ask who you are..."
Teacher Wang remembered Ling Hua’s father didn’t look like this man, nor did he use a wheelchair.
"Huahua’s uncle. Huahua’s parents are currently on a business trip out-of-town, they asked me to come and take a look."
Fu Youhan’s cold countenance was extraordinarily handsome, exuding an aura that commanded obedience.
At first, Teacher Wang was worried that Ling Hua had brought someone to pose as a parent because the man looked slightly familiar.
But after witnessing his distinguished presence, Teacher Wang dismissed the doubts in her mind.
"Please, this way," Teacher Wang led Fu Youhan and Chi Jing to her place.
What surprised both Fu Youhan and Chi Jing was that Jiang Moxi was also there.
"You should be in class at this time, shouldn’t you?" Fu Youhan was the first to address Jiang Moxi.
Jiang Moxi looked back at the man’s deep eyes, her voice light and gentle: "The teacher questioned Ling Hua’s grades, so they asked me to come too."
She was somewhat displeased with Ling Hua’s homeroom teacher.
Perhaps this person has indeed made outstanding contributions to the field of education, but her attitude and the sense of oppression she gives make it difficult to speak highly of her.
Ling Hua knew she had delayed Jiang Moxi from attending class and felt bad about it, bowing her head in dejection.
Then Wang Juan spoke up, "The main reason for asking you two to come here is to discuss the issue of Ling Hua’s suspected cheating on the placement test."
Ling Hua was incredibly embarrassed and defensive, "Teacher Wang, I’ve said that I did not cheat."
"Just because you say so, doesn’t make it true. If you didn’t cheat, how could your grades jump from the bottom to the middle and upper tiers so suddenly?" Wang Juan’s tone was somewhat inexplicably arrogant.
Seeing that Ling Hua’s eyes were beginning to redden, Jiang Moxi immediately said in a cold voice,
"Ling Hua did not cheat, and there’s no need for her to cheat. On the other hand, you, as a teacher, have taken it upon yourself to criticize your student in front of everyone based on your own opinion alone."
Having taught for over a decade, Wang Juan was always on the giving end of scoldings, but today, she was confronted by a young girl, which naturally made her feel like she had lost all face, and so she became even more furious.
"You say she didn’t? Then tell me, how did she achieve these scores? By her wild imagination, or with the help of a home tutor like you who could only get into a Technical College?"
Wang Juan was almost shouting, and naturally, her voice attracted the attention of everyone in and outside the office.
With each side sticking to their claims, it looked like the situation was about to escalate.
At this point, Fu Youhan suddenly spoke up.
"How about this, let Huahua take another test in front of the teacher. If Huahua’s score does not reach her current level, it will prove that she had cheated before, and I will have her publicly apologize and also withdraw from school."
Although Fu Youhan didn’t particularly raise his voice, strangely enough, as soon as he spoke, he forcefully captured everyone’s attention.
Jiang Moxi glanced at Fu Youhan and seemed to understand what he was up to, and said nothing more.
Ling Hua was still unwilling to accept this, always feeling like letting her retake the test meant that her uncle suspected her of cheating.
She looked at Fu Youhan with annoyance, "Uncle, I..."
But before she could finish speaking, Fu Youhan gave her a look that told her to keep quiet.
Ling Hua was actually quite afraid of making Fu Youhan angry, so even if she felt wronged, she had no choice but to close her mouth.
If she knew that scoring well would lead to suspicion, and potentially even to being expelled, she would not have studied so hard.
Wang Juan thought Fu Youhan’s suggestion was feasible, but added, "I think Huahua has seen the previous set of papers and could probably recite all the answers by heart; we need a new set of test papers."
Fu Youhan nodded, "Changing the papers is also fine."
His tone shifted, and his piercing gaze followed suit, landing on Wang Juan.
"If this time Huahua’s score also reaches a middle to upper-level, then it proves her tutor has taught her well. As a teacher, if your ability is not even comparable to a student tutor from a Technical College, having doubted a student’s ability, you must reflect upon yourself publicly in front of the whole school, apologize to both Huahua and Moxi, and resign over your misjudgment, how about that?"
As soon as Fu Youhan finished speaking, Ling Hua looked at him almost in shock.
She had thought her uncle didn’t believe her and felt especially aggrieved.
But now it seemed that the uncle was not doubting her at all, but was rather seeking to avenge her.
Jiang Moxi also found herself blushing inexplicably upon hearing Fu Youhan’s phrase "her tutor has taught her well".
"This..."
Previously, Wang Juan only wanted to deal with a student who cheated and then steadfast in denial, not intending to stake her own career on it.
But now, Fu Youhan had backed her into a corner.
If she backed out now and refused to let Ling Hua retake the test, it would prove that her previous attitude was problematic.
In the end, Wang Juan agreed.
"Fine, let’s do the test. If Ling Hua’s performance does not meet the level of this test, she will withdraw from school. If she does, it means I am not even as good as a tutor from a Technical College, and I will publicly reflect, apologize, and resign!"
She did not believe that Ling Hua could have improved so quickly in such a short period, and so she was convinced that the one leaving the school would definitely not be her.
Very soon, Wang Juan selected a new set of test papers from the school’s question bank and had Ling Hua start answering the papers right there in front of them...
