The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 93
Chapter 93: Chapter 93
"I don’t see why you and I need to have a conversation, Cedric. We’ve hardly spoken to each other in the past-"
"It concerns the little lover boy you’ve been running around with. You fell for the king of the north pretty quickly, princess. Did his throne tempt you?" Cedric grinned as he taunted her.
Amelia smiled, unphased by his attempt to ridicule her. "You must be happy to finally gain entry into the castle now that my father is dead. I think it should be investigated if you were working with king Killian. You have always wanted to be in the castle so much that you pushed for your son to marry the half-blood princess. I wonder if I should tell my lover boy to pick someone else to rule. We can always wait for Annabelle’s bastard child."
Cedric smiled but he was annoyed by Amelia’s suggestion. "Now that we are going forward with a truce, your future husband cannot meddle in Blackwell’s business and you should not indulge him in doing it. No matter what, Fraser will be the next king. An Adam-"
"You must be feeling like this is a historic moment for your bloodline but as great as you think the Adams name is, Fraser will change his name to Blackwell and ignore the Adams. You and I both know it won’t be long before you are once again denied access to the castle. Though I hate you, it cannot compare to how much Fraser hates you," Amelia sweetly spoke as the words left her mouth.
One of the things she and Fraser had in common was how much they disliked Cedric Adams. Amelia hated Cedric because of his insults to royalty when he secretly wanted to be in their position. Fraser hated Cedric because the man always talked down on him.
Cedric had a lot he wanted to say to her to get rid of her pride but that was not why he came looking for her. "It is important that we have a conversation about what will happen when you go to the north."
Amelia could not hold back her laughter though she tried to. "Why on earth would I discuss that with you when you’re not even a court minister or my grandfather? Cedric, you keep forgetting you have nothing to do with the castle no matter how many court ministers you befriend. Excuse me, I don’t want my breakfast to get cold."
As Amelia was about to walk by Cedric, he grabbed her hand, and instinctively, Cyrus pulled out his sword to protect her.
"Stand down, you dog," Cedric ordered Cyrus. "You’ve gotten a little cocky since the last time we met princess. Don’t let being the queen of the north get to you. There’s no telling if you even last a day the moment you leave the protection of this castle. You keep talking about being a Blackwell but are you one?"
Amelia roughly removed his hand herself. "Of course I am. I am a Blackwell princess. You should watch your tongue before you pass around lies about my mother."
"Aren’t you curious why your father has always disliked you? You’ve never done anything to him so why did he hate you? Why do the men in court hardly acknowledge you as royalty? I can answer your questions if you have a private conversation with me," Cedric smiled, knowing he just dangled a piece of meat in front of a desperate cat.
"I don’t care to hear whatever nonsense you plan to come up with about my birth. If there is something you have to say about my safety in the castle, I urge you to have a word with King Killian but I have a feeling you won’t. All of you men would rather try mocking me about dying in the north instead of having a word with Killian to warn him against harming your princess. Cyrus," Amelia looked over her shoulder.
Cyrus nodded his head knowing what she meant without having to hear anything other than his name. "Step away from the princess or I will strike you down."
"Ha! Queen of dogs seems fitting-"
"Dogs?" Killian chuckled as he walked up to the trio with Alastor by his side. "Princess, please go ahead. I need to have a chat with whoever this man is."
"Wonderful," Amelia said then proceeded to leave with Cyrus. She had turned down Cedric’s invitation to learn about why her father hated her but she was curious about what he was hinting at.
Her father’s hatred for her never made any sense and now she was wondering if he truly believed that she was not his child.
"We’re taking a quick detour, Cyrus. Please take me to wherever Leonard is," Amelia said as Leonard was close to her father and he liked her enough to answer whatever question she threw at him.
"Yes princess," Cyrus replied. He immediately tried to sense Leonard’s presence. Personally, Cyrus did not believe that Amelia was not a child of her father. They both had the same smell which meant they shared the same blood.
If Cedric wanted to be messy, Cyrus could join him and question why Fraser did not smell like the man Amelia had once shown Cyrus to be Fraser’s father. Cyrus had no plans to get involved with the drama in this castle but he would not allow anyone to hurt Amelia’s reputation with lies.
Luckily, Cyrus was able to hunt down Leonard in one of the castle libraries. Amelia had Cyrus stand outside the door to stop anyone from coming inside while she would have a word with Leonard in private.
"Princess," Leonard snapped the book he was reading shut as the door opened and Amelia walked in. "Why are you here?"
"I am the princess of this castle, Leonard. The library is here for me to use whenever I want. I should be asking why you are here. I didn’t think a book would be on your mind when the castle has so many northerners present," Amelia said as she slowly walked into the library.
"It’s a book on strategies. I need some ideas just in case something goes wrong. It’s time for breakfast. I don’t think you came here to read a book while you eat. What do you need from me, princess? Are you in danger?" Leonard asked. He did not trust the king of the north around her.
"Living in the castle means that your life is always in danger. That’s why my father always had you nearby but he still died. I ran into Cedric Adams before coming here. He had something interesting to tell me about why my father disliked me and you’re going, to be honest with me. Am I a Blackwell?" Amelia quickly asked instead of beating around the bush.
"That is a ridiculous question. Of course, you are a Blackwell. Aside from your grandmother, you are the only Blackwell in the castle right now. Whatever Cedric said was a lie," Leonard honestly replied.
"Let me rephrase my question. Is there any reason why my father would think I was not his child?" Amelia asked and carefully watched how Leonard’s facial expression changed for a moment. "So there is something. Tell me."
"Princess, I don’t-"
"Leonard, nothing is more frustrating than not knowing why your father hated you and everyone not giving you a reason. Please tell me what you know before Cedric or anyone else can ambush me with what they know. I have to know," Amelia said in a low tone. For years she wondered what it could be and now it seemed like she was close to getting the answer.
Leonard sighed. He did not wish to be the one to have this conversation with her but he knew no one else would be willing to tell her. "You are a Blackwell, princess. It’s just your father believed your mother to have an affair but she did not. She was always loyal to him but after you were born and he started bringing in mistresses, she no longer paid attention to him so your father believed she was paying attention to another man."
Leonard continued to say, "He was jealous of any man around your mother, and one day he just asked me what if the queen had tricked him. What if your mother was claiming another man’s child to be the princess of this kingdom? As I had a friendship with your mother, I could reassure him that she was always faithful but he did not believe my words. That was the second time the king and I ever fought. He accused me of playing in his face with Anne."
"Why?" Amelia asked.
"He thought that I was the one Anne was fooling around with because I had more access to her than any other man. Long before her marriage to your father, Anne and I had a relationship. Your father and I were friends so I told him about Anne. One thing led to another and he ended up marrying her. From the moment Richard had solidified their engagement, I let go of your mother and never fooled around with her," Leonard explained and was deeply apologetic for how much Amelia suffered because of what her father thought.
