The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 50

Chapter 50: Chapter 50

"Richard," Annabelle looked to Richard for him to stand up against his mother. He was the one with the authority. He should not allow his mother to waltz in and act like she was still the queen.

"Annabelle, I think it’s best that until everyone has calmed down you should return to your room. It is not good for you to be stressing yourself out and walking around so much. I will visit you after dinner is over," Richard replied without looking in Annabelle’s direction.

"Richard. I am carrying your child. I am already seated at the table and there is no need for me to have to leave. We have all finished talking and I am sure the rest of dinner will be peaceful. Lady Margaret," Annabelle turned from the king to his mother. "I apologize for upsetting you. My toes are sore and I am unable to walk. Please let me stay."

It boiled Annabelle’s blood to have to beg to stay. This castle was about to belong to her unborn child therefore it would soon belong to her. Margaret should mind her business and return to her own home. Whatever happened to the former queen disliking being in the castle? Those were the good old days when Annabelle did not have to see Margaret.

"There is a simple solution to your problem dear. Two guards will be more than enough to lift you to your room."

"Mother, I cannot allow just anyone to touch my woman," Richard disagreed with his mother’s idea. "It is not proper."

"Why?" Margaret did not see the issue. "When I was pregnant with you and unable to walk around on my own, I was lifted by some of the servants. They helped me move from the bed to the bathroom and even lifted me from my room to another where I wouldn’t have to walk downstairs. If it was fine for a queen it is fine for the king’s mistress."

’That is no longer my title,’ Annabelle thought. She was now the mother of the future king. She was certain a prince was inside of her stomach.

The sound of a chair pushed against the hard floor interrupted the silence but it wasn’t Annabelle who had finally stood up as Margaret requested. It was Amelia.

"I’m full," Amelia placed her fork down on her empty plate. While everyone else continued to argue, she took it upon herself to eat before the food could turn cold. "I am going to retire to my room. Goodnight, grandmother."

"Amelia, wait," Margaret called out to her. She was hoping for a peaceful dinner with Amelia and her son. She had been so occupied with removing Annabelle that she had not noticed Amelia had begun to eat. "Richard, please remove her before I find myself more annoyed than I already am," she rubbed her temple.

There was a lot Margaret needed to discuss after Amelia had truly calmed down from the news she learned today. It was clear Amelia needed more space and what was said at the dinner table had not helped.

"Fine," Annabelle abruptly stood up. She no longer wanted to beg to be at the table when Margaret did not want her there. All she needed to do was wait in the next couple of months for when her child would be born.

Annabelle stormed off with a plan in mind. She would get rid of any woman who entered the castle to gain the king’s affection. For the last couple of years, she gave her body to the king for his pleasure and now she was due a grand title for her loyalty.

"Regardless of my child being the first princess, if he remarries and that woman has a son, my child will not become king. Dammit," Annabelle cursed. She felt like pulling out her hair for all her efforts going to waste. What would it hurt for others to be on her side? Only one of the court ministers seemed interested in making her child become Richard’s heir.

"What a sight?" Amelia commented as Annabelle was about to pass by her. "I had a gut feeling that if I waited I would see something interesting. I was right. Are things not going your way, Annabelle? Finally realized you’ll be stuck as the king’s whore?"

"Not at all," Annabelle changed her attitude. She refused to let Amelia see her worrying about her future. "I am certain it won’t be long before your father realizes I should be named his queen. All those opposing won’t be around for too long. I am young enough to wait until they are gone," she grinned.

Amelia didn’t react to Annabelle talking about her grandmother not being around for long because of her age. "Normally, I would be against you, Annabelle but I cannot keep poking at your dreams to make the king be able to turn his mistress into his queen. I also wanted to change tradition by making a princess able to become queen when there is no prince before me. I wonder how many women this castle has seen determined to change rules?"

"Amelia, I hope I am wrong in thinking you are trying to team up with you?" Annabelle chuckled. She would never stop Richard from sending Amelia far away. "I hate you, child. Do not ask because I will regret you. I have given you a chance to be on my side and you blew it. I could have saved you from being sent off if you were nice."

"Don’t get ahead of yourself, Annabelle. I would never ask for your help. I was only stating we have something in common for once. Just like I have accepted my fate, for the sake of my half-sibling, I suggest you accept your fate, Annabelle. You will never be queen and should your child be a girl, Fraser will be named heir. I suppose you will be sent off in a far corner of the castle to raise your daughter. How sad," Amelia walked away.

"You," Annabelle clenched her fists. She found herself unable to disagree with Amelia’s words. If her child truly is a girl, she might be cast aside without being given the chance to become pregnant again.

Richard was desperate for a son and as much as he claimed to love her, he would search for another woman to give him what he long desired.
