The Throne Is Mine -
Chapter 231
Chapter 231: Chapter 231
Beth paced back and forth, biting her fingernails as she tried to think about what to do next. She had to search everyone who was present in the castle now and was present when the wine was brought out from storage for today. "I am going to have them hung."
"Calm down," Cedric said, closing the door behind him to get privacy. From his sleeve, he pulled out a small glass bottle with brown liquid inside. He approached Fraser who laid crying in pain on a table the guards placed him on.
"What do you think you are doing?" Beth asked, grabbing his hand to stop him from going to her son. "We are waiting for a doctor."
"Why wait when I have the answer?" Cedric replied, removing the cover which immediately released a pungent stench in the room. "He will be fine in a few minutes."
"Answer? You, you did this," Beth realized. She would bet her arm it was Margaret. "You bastard! Are you aware of what you almost did? Fraser could have died."
"Not at all. I wouldn’t let the grandson who will attach the Adams to royalty die. He was always safe in my plans. Now, do you wish for me to help relieve your son of pain, or do you want to keep holding me?" Cedric asked. Fraser might die if they wait longer.
Beth reluctantly released Cedric’s hand. She wanted to curse at him and beat him for doing this to her son, but if he had the answer to get rid of Fraser’s pain, she had to let him go. For now.
"Why did you do this? You just ruined Fraser’s big day becoming King. The crown is not on his head-"
’There will be plenty of time for the crown to be placed on his head. I am dealing with a problem you failed to take care of. Margaret Blackwell," Cedric said, roughly grabbing Fraser’s mouth and opening it to pour the antidote inside. "I want that woman gone."
"Who doesn’t? I am going to take care of her-"
"No, you won’t. A child like you can never go after someone like Margaret. I even have trouble going against her and many others have failed. Why do you think she has survived so long? The castle is her playing ground. She still has her family’s backing and a secret army at her hands. The temple has a lot of influence inside and outside of the castle. When the people grow wary of the King, who do they turn to?" Cedric asked, putting the empty bottle back up his sleeve.
"The priests and Margaret’s family control the temple. That was why she was chosen to become Queen. So the castle could have the temple on their side. How exactly does what you did today sway the people from the temple and Margaret?" Beth inquired, not seeing the connection unless he planned to say the priest had tried to kill Fraser.
"Didn’t your son start a rumor about Amelia killing her father? It’s not so hard to start another that Margaret tried to kill Fraser. Stop putting on a show for the people like you care for the woman who did not birth you. Let them see how much you hate each other. I am going to create doubt in the kingdom and have Margaret leave. Killian left Margaret to help Fraser rule. We will say the senile former Queen wants to kill the new King so she can rule again. Anything to create conflict," said Cedric.
"You’re going to divide the public opinion. I don’t mind getting Margaret out of the castle, but the next time you plot against her, do not involve my son. Fraser could have died today. It would have been better to fake this. Get away from him now,’ Beth said, not wanting Cedric anywhere near Fraser now.
Beth held Fraser’s hand to comfort him throughout the pain. She wanted Margaret gone, but not with Fraser’s life at risk.
Cedric was annoyed by the two. "You will never get far if you do not make some sacrifices. I heard you and my son are at odds. Whatever it is, return home to make things right. I will not allow that marriage to fail."
"My marriage has no benefit to you anymore. You got all that you need from Fraser," Beth replied.
"Oh, how wrong you are. Your marriage is still quite useful to me. Make amends or the next poison will have no solution to it. I see why Margaret does not bat an eye at your antics. You are just a mother who fails to see what is happening around her," Cedric shook his head, going back to the door so he could deal with the restless crowd outside.
"That bastard," Beth clenched her right fist. He was doubting her just like Margaret did, but he was in for a surprise. Cedric made the mistake of using her son. She didn’t care what was done to her, but her precious son was a different story.
"A child," Beth chuckled. It couldn’t be a child who had gathered all those with power who could help her go against Margaret and those who despised the Adams family. "I have no plans of staying married to a man whose family will be wiped out in a few days," she whispered.
Cedric disrupted her plans to get rid of Margaret today, but her plans of wiping out the Adams would continue in a few days. Beth didn’t care who died first. She just wanted two people causing her life to be miserable to vanish one day.
Margaret wed her to Cedric’s son thinking it would keep Beth out of the castle, but Cedric had used the marriage as his way into the castle.
"Fraser," Beth looked down at him. He seemed to be relaxing now. "As soon as that crown is placed on your head, announce that I will be your advisor in place of Margaret. I will make the announcement that the castle will no longer get involved in battles between houses. We will sit back and watch as others match their men unto Adams lands and slaughter them. Will shall name your grandfather a traitor of this land. I will not Let him get away with poisoning you."
"You can never end up like my half-brother. I will not allow it," Beth said, plotting on Cedric before the man could kill her son.
...
In the north, Amelia was more than happy to have her coronation finished without someone else interrupting her. She now had to start carrying out her plans to start proving herself as Queen. First, she wanted to change up how the inside of the castle carried out duties and try to create a bigger market with the farmers on the mountain.
The North shouldn’t be so closed off from the rest of the world anymore. It should trade to bring more money to demons who weren’t making enough for their hard work.
"Lost in thought already? Will I become a husband who has to wait on his wife to finish work? Silently waiting in bed while you have a candle burning all night to continue reading your papers?" Killian asked, disliking the idea. He had gotten used to her clinging to him in the middle of the night. Sleeping alone was quite boring.
Amelia looked to her right at Killian. They were taking a small walk, holding hands, before she would have to go meet other demons who took over other lands. She was curious to see what the others were like.
Amelia rested her head on his shoulder. Despite what anyone would think, Killian turned out to be someone who brought her peace. "No, I would go to another room so you wouldn’t have to watch me work. I’m kidding," she chuckled when his muscles tensed up. "So clingy. We should have a rule that after dinner, we don’t talk about anything other than ourselves. That will be the most time we see each other after all. I hope you can take some of your work off of Alastor. I will need him in the future."
"You can use me as you like," Killian offered his help.
"I know and I have plans that require your help, but I don’t want to interrupt you lazing around so I will make use of Alastor just like you do," Amelia replied.
"How kind of you to worry about me working hard, but I would rather help you than lay around," said Killian.
"You cannot take this back when I start telling you my plans. Consider today your last chance to relax. From tomorrow, you and I will change up the north."
"I think it is only fair that I get a reward for helping you. An hour in the bathroom for you to wash my back and I help wash your back," Killian said, but he planned to do much more.
Amelia shook her head, not believing he took this moment to ask for such a thing. "It is only fair, I suppose."
