The Throne Is Mine
Chapter 129

Chapter 129: Chapter 129

"Ugh. Why is it so hot?" Amelia groaned. She tossed and turned in her bed before opening her eyes and almost screamed at the sight before her but she realized in time that she was in the north. "It is morning already? It is still unbelievable that I sleep through the night now."

Amelia stretched her body before she slowly sat up from the bed. She truly owed Killian something for helping her be able to sleep peacefully at night. "Where is Killian? Why doesn’t he inform me before he knocks me out? Killian?" She called out for him.

The room was silent enough to hear a pin drop. She crawled to the edge of the bed, placing her feet on the warm floor, and then stood up to look around for Killian. She wouldn’t be surprised if he had to step out for a moment. Today was a big day for Amelia as she would be introduced to his people as their future queen.

"He better-"

Amelia paused when the bedroom door opened and in came Killian with a red dress in his hands. "Good morning," she greeted him.

Amelia couldn’t help but stare at his attire. He wore long pants with fur and no shirt to show off markings all over his chest and arms. How had she not noticed that his body was full of so many drawings? Then again, it wasn’t like she had many opportunities to see him half-naked.

She wondered how far he went walking around without a shirt or maybe that was the norm here. Amelia did not know much about the north because they were so secretive and the books the castle had on them weren’t available to everyone.

"I find that you are always talking about me when you are alone. I should feel honored I am on your mind when I am not around but I’d like it if you would talk about me when I am around. I sent a message for a dress to be delivered while you were asleep. Hopefully, it should fit. I believe I described your body quite well."

"I am sure you did. Thank you. I wouldn’t want to meet the people here in one of your shirts. That is why we should have stayed in the carriage where all of my belongings are but someone just had to jump out of a moving carriage to fly. It is beautiful," Amelia said after Killian handed her the dress.

The person that made this dress was certainly talented. They could send many of the dressmakers back home out of business.

"It does look like it will fit me. It doesn’t matter if it will be a bit loose. Um, what time is breakfast here or must I remain in the room?" Amelia asked.

"We will eat breakfast in here just for today but we will have dinner downstairs tonight. I take you to the gates to announce you as my future queen. We cannot step outside since the crowd outside will be rowdy but you will be free to roam the castle with a guard. I have already told the guards that not a single hair on your head is meant to be touched. They will not disobey me," said Killian.

If she was safe in the castle walls, Amelia did not understand why they were staying in this room instead of going out to have breakfast. Who was it exactly that she needed to be on guard around that in the castle? "Who is it you are protecting me from? You are a fine warrior so surely your people won’t attack me once you give the order? Who is it that concerns you?" She asked.

Amelia did not want to be left out of the dark about someone who didn’t fear Killian and would try to kill her. His enemies were now her own so she needed to learn about them as soon as possible. She would love to go straight to the library after being announced as the future queen to learn about their history and culture. She could not wait for the papers her grandmother gave her to arrive with the rest of her luggage.

The less knowledge she had of the people here the weaker and easy to die Amelia thought of herself.

"Not everyone in this kingdom or castle listens to my orders. The lower-level demons will be easier for you to bond with but it is those who hold high seats in the underworld that will be a problem. Agramon is the one you should stay away from the most. He is the leader of those who oppose me. You will meet him today. Do not worry," he added because of her expression. "I intend to let you outlive all of them."

"You are king. If they oppose you, can’t you just kick them out of your castle? They might have status in the underworld but this is your castle. Is it more difficult than I can imagine?" Amelia asked after he smiled.

"If it were that easy, they would have been gone by now. I am the king of this castle but the devil is still the one true king. He allows demons like me to come up into this world to rule but we still are under his command. If he gives permission for a demon to be in this castle, I cannot go against it. He doesn’t want to be annoyed by their presence in the underworld so he sends him up here for me to deal with them. Sometimes I feel like I can just kill that man," Killian said as he tapped his fingers on his shoulder, seriously considering it.

Amelia didn’t think Killian should be talking about killing the devil so casually but the devil might not be able to hear Killian’s words from wherever he was now. "So I will continue to be wary of them for the rest of my life here?"

"No. You need to get close to the queen of the underworld. She will not miss out on my wedding and will drag her husband up here. Once you two are close, you can ask her to send Agramon and his followers back to the underworld. The devil is as scary as the tales you might have heard and he fears nothing except his wife. I wouldn’t be surprised if she pays a visit before the wedding. She has a habit of sneaking out. Excuse me."

Amelia silently watched Killian walk toward the bathroom. No one would understand the position she was in now better than the queen of the underworld who was once a demon. The only thing she feared was the personality of this woman. What made her lose her human side or better yet, how did the devil fall in love with her? The queen might not be an easy person to befriend.

Still, Amelia was not going to give up before she could even start. She would win over the queen and the people here. What she always wanted was so close for her to give it up so soon.

’I need people who will be loyal to me like Cyrus. They might be weak but strength can be in numbers. I need to find these lower-level demons Killian speaks of to join my side,’ Amelia thought so Killian would not be able to hear her plans. She did not intend to only have Killian or Cyrus protecting her. Amelia’s greatest mistake in the Blackwell castle was not gathering enough followers. People who would do whatever was needed to keep her alive and ruling on the throne.

Amelia planned to not repeat the same mistakes she made back home here. "Killian," she called his name when he exited the bathroom, flickering water off his hands. "Please give me a list of young women I can befriend. It doesn’t matter if you think I won’t get along well with them. If it is alright, I would like to have a small gathering to introduce myself to them."

"I am not familiar with many of the young women here so I will have Alastor prepare a list as soon as he arrives. What will you do with the woman Jahi? Do you trust that woman won’t try harming you? I’ve heard her speak negatively of you one too many times. I would not trust her if I were you. No matter how much your guard says the two of you are alike," Killian said as he leaned back against a wall and folded his arms.

He didn’t need to overhear the conversation Cyrus was having with Jahi to know the woman wanted Amelia dead. Jahi could not hide her hatred when she looked at Amelia. Killian saw how Jahi looked at Amelia when Amelia had walked ahead of him to enter the carriage when they were going to depart the Blackwell castle.

"I don’t know what to make of her just yet. I don’t plan to be in a room alone with her but since Cyrus has requested I take her to my side, I will give it a try if I feel she wishes to harm me, I will send her out of the castle," Amelia replied.

Too many people wanted her dead for her to have to spend time arguing with Jahi or keep looking over her shoulder. She was taking Cyrus’s word that the woman wanted to start over.
