Chapter 94: Save him!

Beatrix’s heart skipped a beat in her chest, her thoughts slowing down for a moment as she tried to process what Ava was saying.

"Damien was hit by the blast. He is currently at the hospital with Xavier and Rhys."

Seeing how Ava was avoiding her eyes. She knew it was more serious than she was saying.

She was hiding something from her, but whatever it was she was going to find out when they got to the hospital.

"C-can you take me to the hospital?"

Ava nodded, "Sure but we have to find you something to wear."

Beatrix looked down and realized that she was wearing nothing but Rhys’ shirt.

"Okay."

When they got inside what once used to be her room, Ava looked around and found her some knickers.

"Here it’s the most decent one I could find." Ava said, handing the knickers to Beatrix.

Beatrix took it numbly. She wanted to go to the hospital and didn’t care about what she was wearing.

"Thank you."

When they got inside the car, Ava’s boyfriend drove to the hospital and Ava sat at the back comforting her.

Beatrix laid her head on Ava’s shoulder as she tried to process how her life had changed just in a blink of an eye.

Just a few hours ago she was having the best time of her life dancing with the man she loved in the kitchen, watching him cook for her and then him promising her that he was going to learn how to love her and just in a flash he was at the hospital battling for his life.

When they reached the hospital she was saw Rhys sitting at the entrance of the theater.

His head was hung low and his whole body was surrounded by sadness.

"Rhys..." she called him, her voice barely a whisper.

Rhys froze and he slowly raised his head to meet her gaze.

He blinked as if he was trying to see if she was really there.

"Beatrix...." He stood up from his seat and strode towards her.

Rhys pulled her into arms and hugged her tightly as if he had been waiting all his life for her. She felt him trembling and she knew he was crying.

"H-how is Damien?" Beatrix asked.

"I don’t know Beatrix. No one has come to inform us of what is happening to him. They’re operating on him right now."

Beatrix nodded, "H-how bad is it?"

Rhys pulled away from her and he looked at the floor.

"Very bad. His whole back is burnt and his face is disfigured too. I-I don’t know if he will survive. Even if he does, he will be disfigured."

As Beatrix listened to Rhys, she felt a powerful emotion building up within her chest. It gripped her tightly and caused her heart to skip multiple beats. Without realizing it, she let out a loud exhale and sank to her knees on the floor.

Her entire body shook and her muscles tensed before spasming. She felt a sting at the bridge of her nose and tears fell down her cheeks, leaving a hot trail before dripping off her chin and onto the floor.

She struggled to catch her breath, taking short, shallow gasps. It was difficult for her to control the choked sobs that escaped her lips as she cried quietly to herself.

"Beatrix—"

Rhys was interrupted when the theater door opened.

The doctor walked out and approached them. Beatrix got up from the floor and run to the doctor. It was the same one who had taken care of Damien when he got sick.

"Doc please how is he?" She asked, apprehension waving off her.

"Mr. Niarchos is in a coma," the doctor said, keeping his emotions in check.

"What?!" Rhys shouted. "What do you mean he is in a coma!? Wake him up!" He demanded.

"I’m sorry Sir. My team and I have done everything we could. He lost a lot of blood when you brought him to the hospital and he was barely alive." The doctor tried to explain.

"I don’t care! It’s your job to save him!" Rhys said, his temper rising.

"Save my brother! Do you understand me?!" He demanded, approaching the doctor. "Save him or I swear to God, I’ll kill you all!" With that,Rhys grabbed the doctor’s shirt fiercely.

Fortunately, Xavier was able to pull Rhys off. "

"Rhys! You need to calm down!"

"Don’t tell me what to do!" Rhys roared, pulling away from Xavier and turning back to the doctor.

"Sir, I understand that this is difficult for you, but you need to understand that given the severity of his injuries, it’s a miracle that Mr. Niarchos is even alive,"

The doctor explained , causing Beatrix’s heart to sink

"What do you mean?" She asked in a low voice.

"His blood levels and vital signs were extremely low when he was brought in. His pulse was almost nonexistent and his breathing was barely sufficient.

In addition, he seemed to have inhaled the gas from the blast. Also as you already saw his whole back is burnt and his face is disfigured by the blast.

"But can it be fixed?" Beatrix asked worriedly.

"We don’t know the extent of the damage that has been done. We’ve performed a series of tests and we are waiting for results. For now we are putting him on life support."

"How long will he be on the life support? Will he be alright?"

"I don’t know how long he will be on it. We will remove it once he gets better.

Also I cannot deny, nor confirm that he will be alright."

The doctor said, dropping his head. "We’ve kept him in observation.

He is in a comatose condition and we cannot predict when he will wake up or if he will wake up. If there are no more questions I will take my leave.."

Beatrix felt like her whole world was crushing down on her.

"Damien.." she whispered as tears stream down her face. Her body trembled as she struggled to catch her breath, and even as she tried to speak, her words come out incoherent and broken.

As she cried uncontrollably, she suddenly felt warmth surrounding her and strong arms pulling her close.

Through her tears, she saw Rhys hugging her tightly.

His heartbeat was as erratic as her own as he rocked her gently and whispered soothing words to her , trying to calm her down, but she was too overwhelmed to listen.

Her shoulders shook with sobs as she tried to catch her breath, and she gripped his shirt tightly, burying her face in his chest.

She was afraid—afraid of losing the man she loved.
