The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 58: Jealous
Chapter 58: Jealous
Beatrix stiffened and her eyes widened with shock. He was kissing her....
He moved his mouth against hers forcefully and feverishly. It was an angry kiss. Rhys kept a firm hand at the back of her neck and she could barely breathe.
Seeing that she wasn’t responding to the kiss he tugged at her lower lips, she moaned in pain which allowed him to sweep his tongue into her mouth.
Beatrix tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t bulge. She found her resistance slowly diminishing.
Her mind was no longer in charge, the sensation has taken over every fiber of her.
For some sick reason she found herself responding to the kiss.
His mouth tasted just like the last time he had kissed her goodbye. She could taste the faint hint of mint on his tongue.
His warm tongue ran along hers and she could feel the cold metal of his lip ring on the corner of her mouth.
Damien....No..No she couldn’t do this to him. This was cruel.
Her conscience screamed at her and with that she had the strength to push Rhys away from her.
Rhys stumbled back slightly and smirked at her. Seeing the mischief glint in his eyes, Beatrix felt awful.
She couldn’t believe that she had done that to a man who had done nothing but treated her so well.
She sucked in a sharp breath, urging herself to say something.
"W-Why?" Beatrix managed out.
She watched as he broke into a wide grin.
"Why what?" He asked, folding his arms across his chest.
"You know what I’m asking, don’t play games with me Rhys. I don’t want to hurt your brother. He has done nothing but been good to me. What we had was a year ago. Let it go."
He stepped closer to her and Beatrix stepped back, trying her best not to tremble due to the dangerous look in his eyes.
He wrapped his large hand around the underside of her jaw, his brows creased deeply and his nose twitched in a slight snarl.
"Well that’s the thing love, "I can’t forget you, and it drives me insane" he murmured, moving his lips back to her ear, "I don’t care if you’re with my brother. I want you and nothing is going to stop me."
Beatrix’s heart hummed in her chest as her stomach twisted itself into a knot that was almost painful.
This would have been a perfect love confession if only she wasn’t already with his brother. What kind of sick person would say this to his brother’s fiancé?
She closed her eyes, as she forced out her words,
"I can’t do this to him, this is wrong, I can’t-"
She hated the way her body reacted to him every single damn time. That was the most confusing part. Was it normal to be attracted to two men at the same time? Maybe she was the sick one.
"Shhhh" he interrupted, hushing her, "Don’t worry, it’ll be our little secret" he said kissing the shell of her ear
Beatrix swallowed the dry feeling I’m her mouth and shook her head, pulling away from him,
"How can you do this to your brother? He will be hurt if he finds out about all of this."
Rhys furrowed his brows, before shaking his head, as if he was battling with himself.
"What he doesn’t know wouldn’t hurt him."
"You’re crazy."
He chuckled, "You have no idea love."
He sucked his lower lip into his mouth before releasing it and going back to that same smirk that managed to infuriate and intoxicate her at the same time.
"Tell me that you don’t find all of this exciting, that this isn’t thrilling for you."
Beatrix shook her head,
"No-No,it isn’t." She rushed out, shaking her head frantically,
"I...I don’t want to do this to Damien. Please "
"You’re terrible liar remember?" his lip twitched in irritation, as he moved back to pick his coffee.
"Well, if that’s what you want."
The sound of footsteps sounded and Beatrix froze.
Damien entered the kitchen and looked at both of them. Beatrix was sure he could sense the awkward atmosphere in the room.
"Hey, sorry to keep you waiting." He said pressing a kiss to her head.
This made Beatrix feel even worse. Guilt coursed through her. She couldn’t even dare to look Damien in the eyes.
"Hey Rhys, how was your night?" He asked his brother as he sat beside him at the counter.
"Awful. Someone was screaming too much to let me have a peaceful sleep."
He muttered keeping his eyes on Beatrix. Beatrix blushed and fidgeted uncomfortably.
Damien chuckled, "Sorry, I forgot you were here."
Rhys took a sip of his coffee and hummed in response.
Beatrix stood awkwardly all by herself in the middle of the room. She didn’t know what to do.
She looked at the two men sitting in front of her and sighed. Both of them had their charm and she knew she was in serious trouble.
She watched as Rhys laughed at something Damien said. She could see how much they loved each other. She didn’t want to be the one to break them apart.
"Beatrix, hey Rhys was telling me how you guys were bonding just a minute ago. I’m glad you two are getting along."
Beatrix blinked and forced out a smile,
"Y-yeah...." Getting along. Funny. Beatrix thought. If only he knew the kind of monster his brother was.
She glared at Rhys who just grinned at her over his coffee cup.
"It’s hard to believe how pure you’re Beatrix, knowing the kind of man your father is."
Beatrix frowned at his statement, what did he mean by that.
"Rhys...." Damien said in a low threatening voice.
He just chuckled, "What? I think it’s time we introduce her to the dark side, brother."
A shiver ran through Beatrix. The dark side? What did he mean by that.
Damien gave her a comforting smile, "Don’t mind Rhys, darling. He can say weird things sometimes. He had some challenges while growing up."
Rhys snorted, "I’m right here Damien. I don’t think Beatrix don’t mind what I just said. Right Beatrix?"
Beatrix’s lips parted to speak but she just swallowed and nodded.
"Why? Cat got your tongue? I think I heard you screaming my brother’s name perfectly well last night."
He said his voice thick with jealousy. Was he jealous?
"Don’t disrespect her Rhys. She is going to be my wife."
Rhys ran his fingers through his hair, pushing them up off his forehead looking at her with that mischievous look of his.
"Hmm....well I’m sorry love." he grinned innocently, taking a swig from his cup.
Beatrix clenched her fist by her side.
"What do you want for breakfast?" Damien asked her, breaking the tension in the room.
"Pancakes." Beatrix replied.
Rhys grabbed his cup of coffee and stood up from the chair.
"Won’t you join us for breakfast?" Damien questioned when he started walking out of the kitchen.
"I already had breakfast.." was his short reply.
"What did you eat?" Damien asked with a frown. Apart from the black coffee he was holding nothing shown he had eaten.
"Beatrix."
He replied when he reached her, he smoothed his thumb over the crease between her brows. Beatrix trembled from his touch.
"Don’t frown your pretty face, you will get wrinkles early."
Beatrix scowled at him, swatting his hand away.
"Don’t touch me." How could he touch her with Damien in the same room and most importantly why wasn’t Damien saying anything to his brother?
"Ouch, that hurts."
Beatrix gave him a flat stare "You need serious help." She muttered underneath her breath.
A wide smug smile comes over those perfect lips of his.
"If you’re going to help me then I wouldn’t mind."
Her cheeks heat as she tried to keep her deadpan expression from faltering "You’re not funny"
"I wasn’t joking"
Beatrix huffed, and walked towards Damien.
"How am I supposed to live with him? He is insufferable!" Beatrix complained bitterly.
Damien chuckled and shook his head, "That’s Rhys...he can be a handful sometimes just give him time. For my sake I hope you try to get along with him."
Well she would if he wasn’t trying to seduce her every chance he got. Living alone with him was going to be hell.
Beatrix sighed and nodded, "Alright. "
Damien started preparing breakfast and Beatrix stared at him in a daze.
Seeing how focused he looked while preparing her breakfast she couldn’t help but feel guilty.
Damien had treated her well,
Maybe she should tell him the truth. Let him know the past history between her and his brother.
The truth hurts but lying was even worse.
"Damien..." she called him softly.
Damien looked up from the batter he was making.
"I have something that I want to tell you." Beatrix fiddled with her fingers. Her heart was pounding hard in her chest.
This was probably a bad idea but...
A/N: Hey guys, what are your thoughts on Rhys’ character haha also should Beatrix tell Damien? Let me know.
