Chapter 41: [Bonus Chapter]Jealous
After breakfast Beatrix couldn’t stop talking about the food. It was the most delicious breakfast she has ever had.
The porridge was just the right amount of spicy and hot and the dry doughnuts he made for her was so good. She could eat it forever.
He had explained it to her that his roommate at college was an African student from Ghana and he had taught him how to make it.
Since then he has been obsessed with the food. And she couldn’t blame him. It was literally perfect.
This was one of the reasons why she wanted to travel all over the world to try other countries’ food too.
"What are you thinking about?" Damien whispered deeply into her left ear.
"N-nothing.... " She stuttered, her cheeks flushed pink and her heart pounding against her rib cage,Damien’s proximity driving her wild.
Damien smirked, "Well, are you ready to go?"
Beatrix nodded. "Yes! I can’t wait to haunt for new books."
Damien pulled her to his chest, wrapping his hands around her waist.
"What? Why are you looking at me with such a disapproving frown?"
Beatrix asked, confused by his sudden change in mood.
"That dress is too... enticing,"he answered, pouting.
"Find something else to wear."
Beatrix glanced down at the wine floral split thigh dress she was wearing and looked back up at him in disbelief.
"But there is nothing inappropriate about it. It’s just my legs which are showing?"
"I don’t want anyone to be ogling at you while we’re at the bookstore, okay?" he muttered in exasperation.
"I would hate to commit murder in a public place if any guy’s eyes linger on you for far too long."
Beatrix bursted out laughing. "Mr. Niarchos, you will do no such thing! This country has laws."
Damien pressed a kiss on her nose and smirked,
"But those who made the laws are my puppets. Tell me why should I fear the mere law then?"
Beatrix rolled her eyes when she saw the grin tugged at his lips.
She grabbed his arm, pulling him towards the car the driver had parked out by the entrance while she was getting dressed.
"Don’t be silly. Let’s go. I want to start book shopping!"
He wanted to protect her so he wanted to lay low as they took a stroll in town.
They took a rental car to the bookstore. Damien looked less intimidating today rather he looked mysteriously hot!
He was wearing jeans and black turtleneck with dark aviator sunglasses and a black baseball cap.
Beatrix was contemplating if she should hold his hands but he beat her to it as he grabbed her hand and entwined his fingers with hers, keeping her close to his side as they walked past the stores.
The bookstore was at a corner of a busy intersection with an old-fashioned, wood-framed glass facade, its name written in gold script across the brick-red metal awning that hovered over the sidewalk.
The chimes sounded when they came in and from the elevated platform across the store where the till was located, a tall black woman with an afro hair who seems to be around her age turned and smiled at her.
Beatrix smiled back and pulled Damien towards her.
"Hello. Erm...I want to buy books. Preferably historical fiction with lots of steamy stuff instead and also a modern romantic tale. Enemies to lovers will just be perfect!"
The woman smiled widened at her, "Well then you have come to the right place. It seems we have quite a similar taste so I will give you a couple of recommendations. Read it and when you come back next time let’s discuss."
Beatrix beamed. It seems she has found herself a new friend and she couldn’t be happier.
"I’m Beatrix. What’s your name?"
"Ava." The girl replied.
"Well Ava, can you show me where the books are? I’m dying to get my hands on them."
Ava moved down from the platform and led her towards an aisle containing different books. She had forgotten all about Damien who was standing behind her.
She lifted a couple of books from the shelves and placed it in the basket that Damien was holding.
The two girls gushed over the books and never once did Damien say anything. He just followed her like a shadow until he got a call and had to excuse himself.
Once he left, Ava raised her brows at Beatrix.
"Soo..." she trailed off.
"So what?" Beatrix was confused about what Ava wanted to ask.
"Who is that hot guy?! Oh my God look at his body and stature. He is breathtaking like a Greek god."
For some reason Beatrix felt a pang of jealousy in her heart. She felt Ava was only nice to her because of Damien.
Seeing the frown of Beatrix’s face Ava chuckled slightly.
"Hey, you really like him don’t you! Don’t worry I have a boyfriend whom I would die for. I’m not thinking about your man. He is just that good looking and I’m gushing over him."
Beatrix blushed at Ava’s words and tucked her hair behind her ear in embarrassment.
"Ah-well-I-I-"
"It’s okay Beatrix. I would totally react the same way if someone gush over my boyfriend in front of me. He is mine alone!" She said with a hint of possessiveness in her voice
Beatrix busted out into laughter, "Well that man is my fiancé." She glanced at Damien who was talking on the phone.
He met her gaze and smiled softly at her.
"Damn girl! You’re lucky."
Beatrix bit her lips with a blush on her cheeks and nodded. "Yeah. Let’s pick more books. I get lonely at home."
"Well you can always come around and we can grab some coffee or something. I don’t have any friends either. My boyfriend is my only friend and he is very busy too."
Beatrix nodded. "Alright."
After they finished picking the books to Beatrix’s satisfaction they went back to where Damien was.
"Better take your man out of here before all our female customers start slobbering all over his feet."
Ava said.
Two blonde girls were talking to him and he seemed to be interested in whatever they were saying.
Beatrix clenched her fist and bit her lips as she strode towards him.
"Hey darling, who are these women?" She questioned with a thin smile gracing her lips.
"Hey," Damien greeted with a smile. "I was just helping these lovely women with some restaurant recommendations. They are new in town."
Beatrix pursed her lips sardonically. "Really? Sorry, what the way they were batting their eyelashes at you I thought they were trying to get into your pants."
The two blondes gasped, leaving no doubt that they understood what she was insinuating perfectly.
Beatrix wasn’t really sure what made her say that but she was just so angry when she saw him smiling at them.
Damien chuckled and shook his head, "Only you can get inside my pants dear. No one else"
One of the blondes gave her a snide look before reaching out to press a palm on Damien’s chest.
"Oh but I’m sure once you get a taste of me. You wouldn’t want this boring old hag-"
"Get your hands off him," was Beatrix’s quiet but deadly warning, delivering the girl the full impact of her possibly murderous glare.
"If you don’t I will destroy your entire life. Don’t play with me Miss."
The girl moved back, glaring at Beatrix as she walked away with her friend.
"Well well, who would have thought my little wallflower was a rose with thorns."
Beatrix ignored him and started walking away. Damien grabbed her hand and swirled her round to face him.
"What?" She demanded, anger coursing through her.
"Why the hell were you acting so friendly with those girls?"
His lips twitched. "You’re jealous."
