Chapter 39: In bed

Beatrix woke up with the smell of a familiar

cologne surrounding her in bed, with a foreign warmth and weight pressed against her.

She could feel his chest against her back rise and fall steadily, and the faint snores slipping from him was the sweetest sound she think she had ever heard.

She carefully shifted and roll over to face him, pillowing her hand under her head and traced her eyes over his beautiful features.

His usually neatly combed hair was ruffled all over his forehead. Beatrix lifted her fingers to brush it away but she stopped midway and bit her lips.

The small affectionate gestures she had want to do, she couldn’t, the way she had wanted to stroke her fingers through his hair, or the way she wanted to curl up into him.. kiss him, she couldn’t.

Damien groaned, like he was pulling out of his sleep and Beatrix watched his lips tug up at the corners with his eyes still resting peacefully.

"Were you watching me sleep?" he mumbled, his voice slightly hoarse.

Congratulations now he will think you’re creepy. Beatrix thought.

Damien smirked at her as if he already knew she was ogling at him sleeping.

"Don’t be shy darling, you will be waking up beside me forever once we get married."

He said as he pulled her to his chest. Beatrix hide her face against his chest to prevent him from seeing her flushed cheeks.

Forever. She liked the sound of that.

She felt him vibrate as he chuckled at her reaction.

His arm wrapped around her as he yawned, his body tensing as he stretched his muscles out causing another tired groan to leave him.

Damien shuffled himself back, tilting her chin up to look at him, his eyes still heavy from just waking up

"How are you?"

I’m going to die if you don’t let me go this second.

"I’m fine." Beatrix replied instead, avoiding his eyes. She needed a distraction from the heat poking her inner thigh. She wandered her eyes over the dark ink on his skin.

"Won’t you also ask how I am?"

Beatrix looked up when he asked that.

"Sorry-how-are you feeling today?"

Damien’s face suddenly morphed into pain as he held his head.

"Argh...my head. I think I’m going to die."

Fear gnawed at Beatrix as she touched his head.

"What is wrong with your head? Should I call the doctor?"

"No, a kiss on the forehead will solve it." Damien uttered,

"Are you sure about that?"

"Are you okay now?"

Damien smiled and nodded, "Yeah thank you."

Beatrix looked at him deadpan and blinked at him. Wait a minute, did she just-oh God he had tricked her!

She had been so worried to even notice it. Her whole face heated up.

"Y-you tricked me..."

Damien grinned at her, "I wanted a good morning kiss, it worked didn’t it?"

Damien nodded, "Yeah."

Beatrix sighed. It was hard to understand a man like Damien Niarchos.

She turned to pull herself off the bed, but she stopped when Damien grasped her arms, pulling her down against him as he wrapped his arms around her torso, turning them so her shoulders were pressed against his chest.

"And where do you think you’re going?" he asked smiling against her ear, his voice sinful and hoarse.

Her stomach knotted and her heart started to hammer in her chest.

"I need to go take a bath Damien."

He chuckled under his breath as if he knew she was running away.

He turned her face, lifting his lips to hover against the corner of her mouth.

Beatrix swallowed the way he was looking at her it was as if he wanted to kiss her. Was this going to be the moment he kissed her? But she hadn’t even brush her teeth.

He pecked her cheeks, pulling away to roll onto his back, and Beatrix stayed stilled on her side, trying to recover from yet again having it feel like

he reached straight into her and set her soul in fire, melting every organ in her body

"Okay." He pulled away to roll onto his back while Beatrix stilled. She touched her cheeks in a daze, butterflies fluttering in her stomach.
