The Sweetest Temptation
Chapter 299: Ten million

Chapter 299: Ten million

"Very well, if you insist." Remo admitted. Using the support of his cane, he got to his feet in the fluid manner, towering easily over the bum statuesque of the bastard. After he’d taken a thoroughly scrutinizing look at him, he rolled his eyes away and began to head out of the Casino. However, just as he was about to take his next step, Nolan halted him with a vice-like clutch on his wrist, preventing him from making any further move.

The moment the guards noticed his hand, one of them lurched forward, about to counter his daring act with a fist in his side, but Remo halted him indefinitely, holding up his palm as he beheld Nolan with a cunning expression.

"Where do you think you’re going?" Nolan demanded firmly.

"To get your win, of course. Why do you ask?" Remo replied with great care in his words as he was already losing his calm. The fact that the bastard still stood after doing more than the average man could not get away with, was a blow to his reputation, but he held on, anticipating the moment that he’d pay back every shitty hand that the fool had dealt him.

"You expect me to believe that?" Nolan countered fiercely, his grip on his wrist increasing. "You know, I knew it was a bluff when you said Ten Million, but I was willing to give it a shot because, you know, you looked capable, but this just shows how cunning your kind are."

Remo was barely keeping it together.

What do I start with? Perhaps a knife in each ear...

"And what is my kind?" Remo asked in a chilly tone, barely containing his rage in the seething effect that escaped his voice.

"Ah! gentlemen!"

Giovanni to the rescue!

"I see your game has concluded, what could be the matter?" Giovanni asked, walking into the scene and taking his position right beside Remo, who still had his predatory gaze locked firmly on Nolan. The bastard was truly oblivious to the intent to kill in his opponent.

"You were a witness, he gave his price at ten million, and now, he’s unable to pay up. Will you give him the policies for those who are unable to pay up after a win?" Nolan explained with a ruefulness in his voice. The idiot was playing victim.

"I assure you, young man, that this man here, is more than capable of giving you ten times that amount. It would be best if you respected his wishes and followed him outside." Giovanni replied in a calm tone. From his side eye, he could still see that Remo had not calmed down in the least, and he thought within himself, that if he was not able to get the men out of the casino, chaos would erupt.

Nolan stared hard at Remo, as if struggling to decipher the workings of his mind, something his silly mind could never fathom.

"Well, don’t keep the good sir waiting." Giovanni added convincingly, probing Nolan toward the direction of the exit.

After he’d followed one of the guards toward the entrance, Remo turned to acknowledge Giovanni.

"Thank you for respecting my wish. Here’s my card, should you have a need to see me, anytime." Giovanni pressed an elegantly crafted minimalist business card with textured surface, and his details perfectly engraved in a carved smooth path on the card.

"Sleek." Remo could not help giving his compliment.

"Your praises are truly generous, sir Alfonso."

Remo walked out of the casino, and right into the waiting limousine that was parked at the entrance and already held open by the chauffeur. Inside, Nolan was already seated in the opposite seat, with two of Remo’s guards positioned at each side.

After Remo had settled in, the car began to move.

"What’s this? Where are we going?" Nolan asked, his voice now quivering with awareness.

"Ten million dollars is a huge amount, even for me. You don’t think I’d be carrying such a thing around for the likes of you, just waiting to be taken, do you?" Remo asked patiently.

"Honestly, that was exactly what I thought."

"You must be a complete fool." Remo admitted absently, unable to contain his irritation.

"What the fuck did you say?!" Nolan demanded authoritatively, shifting to the edge of his seat. The guards, in response, turned to face him, like robots in waiting. Nolan, noticing the sudden shift in stance, turned to observe each of the large men, although dimmed out of notice by the minimal lighting, it was clear from the shadows in their features that they now hovered over him with deadly intent.

"I will have you know, Mr. Nolan, that in such a situation, the cards are against you."

The panic in Nolan’s expression grew rapidly, instantly replaced by a look of terror, like that of a person who had foreseen the future of their gruesome fate.

"What t—the f—fuck?! How do you know my name? Who t—the fuck is this?" He stammered, remaining completely still, in order to avoid making body contact with the guards by his side.

"Ah, shit, I let it slip. Anyway, the sooner, the better." Remo said, more to himself, but also to the hearing of Nolan who now beheld him with wide eyes filled with horror.

"Aw, don’t look at me like that, you brought this upon yourself." Remo added sardonically.

"What do you mean?" Nolan asked, genuine confusion etching his features in spite of the fear that still reflected in his eyes. Remo leaned forward from his seat, braced his elbows on his thighs and fixed stern eyes on him.

"Two words, Stella Rossi."

"Ah, that bitch," Nolan mused, with a light chuckle, visibly relaxing at the mention of her name, as though it held no power or influence over his mood. If the statement he made had triggered his rage, the manner in which he received the message did more than that. It brought about his immediate execution.
