Chapter 277: Coming over

Time and again, Stella would peer at her phone log, eyes fixed on Beatrix’s number. She did not know if it was a good idea to place a call after everything that had happened—after all, she had a thing or two to do with her brothers.

Ha! What a turn of events. She thought to herself with a laugh. She placed her phone back on the bed beside her pillow and reached for the chocolates on her bedside table, throwing one chunk into her mouth. She sighed as the flavor melted onto her tongue, filling her once again with a temporary delight that did things to her brain.

I guess it’s good to sit back and unwind after a long day.

All day, after the Quinn brothers left her home, she had been binging on movies and periodically eating one snack or the other, occupying her mind with anything else but pondering on the fact that she had somehow let Matteo slip from her grasp. However, right now, as she let the chocolate slip onto her tongue, she could not help appreciating his thoughtfulness at coming with them in the first place.

She never imagined in her wildest dream that he would go out of his way to figure out her door and even bring make up flowers along—it almost felt like a lover’s quarrel with the guy coming to make amends first. Except, in their case, he had been seen with a woman.

What was their history anyway? She thought to herself, her eyes taking on a questioning note while she peered at her phone once again. In the short time that she had taken to process the image in her mind, she had seen some evidence of long-term bond. And although she wasn’t sure if it was a thing in the first place, she was certain it existed.

Notwithstanding, his was with a stranger he did not know. But she, she had gone the extra mile and gone ahead to get caught with his brother. That was a weighty comparison compared to him. And right now, as she thought about it, her mind took on a question she had not bothered to ponder on until this moment.

Is he willing to listen to me?

Just as it took root in her mind, a soft knock came at the door. She jerked her gaze to look at it, and then she turned to her phone. Picking it up, she checked the time, and to her surprise, it was eight forty at night. Whoever would be crazy enough to make it to her home around this time, was most likely to be Remo. She sighed and smacked her palm against her forehead.

Please, go away, not now! She thought to herself remorsefully, regret and a new surge of anger refilling her being. If there was anything she wanted to escape, it was either of the two brothers, although, a part of her knew that if it was Matteo, she would be willing to comply.

What if it’s him? Just as the thought took root in her mind, another soft knock resounded in her room. She looked at her phone, there was no message about his pending arrival. If he truly wanted to drop by, he would’ve left a message, or placed a call.

It’s most definitely Remo! She sighed in exasperation and pushed herself toward the edge of the bed, sauntering toward the door in short, languid steps that hinted at her reluctance. When she got to the door, she leaned against the doorpost, placing her ear on the door, she began to speak.

"Remo, I don’t want you in my life, can’t you put that into your thick skull?" After she had spoken the words, there was a brief pause, and then another knock.

"You’ve ruined what hope I had in my relationship, haven’t you done enough?! Are you looking for a death wish?!" This time, her voice was louder, which caused a neighbour to bang at the wall where her television was.

"Sorry," She yelled, loud enough for the next-door neighbour to hear. After she had apologized, the knock came once again, this time, a bit louder than the last.

"You leave me no choice," She mumbled under her breath, cursing lightly as she pulled the door open. She froze in her tracks, her gaze travelling up the form that stood majestically at the entrance, wearing a humorous smile that messed with her gut.

"Matteo!" She exclaimed, genuine surprise filling her tone at a degree that could not help but push him to chuckle lightly.

"Hello, Stella." He greeted her in that delectable voice that was part growl and part husky. She felt her walls cling desperately to each other, seeking some sort of thrill.

Not now, what the fuck! She thought to herself, feeling the sting of her embarrassment creep to her face.

"Aren’t you gonna let me in?" He asked her once again, maintaining that sweet tone.

"Oh, oh, I’m really sorry. Please, come in." She murmured, stepping aside and allowing him to step in. When she closed the door, she turned to look at his back form, her gaze travelling over his body and taking in its richness in rippling lean muscles and majesty.

"I can literally feel you boring holes through my back. If you’re going to do that, you might as well do it looking into my eyes," he said it all in one breath, not minding if she had heard his words or not. Oh, but she had heard his words, every single one of them. And there was no way she was going to look him in the eyes as though she was some sort of detective on duty.

He turned to face her, pushing his hand into his jogger pockets and leaning his weight on one leg. Gazing at him while he faced her was even more pleasurable than she thought. For some reason, he had chosen a casual body hug V-neck sweater that clung to almost every contour of his body. Her breath hitched in her throat when she noticed.
