The Sweetest Temptation -
Chapter 242: Lies
Chapter 242: Lies
Stella reached for her dress, sifting through the material in search of any ruins that may render it unusable. When she saw the hole that the bullet had gone through, she suddenly remembered the scar that it’d left.
Instinctively, her hand reached for the spot, exerting a little bit of force to the scab that had formed. In the space of one month, it had healed significantly. Other than the unsightly scar, there was hardly any indication that she was once at the brink of death.
However, as she thought about her next move, she felt anything but happy. On the contrary, her mind was filled with woe and sadness, causing her to wish that somehow she should not have stepped in to save him.
She’d taken advantage of the levity that Matteo had granted her, and opened herself to him – not keeping in mind the aftermath of everything that had happened.
’Here I am feeling worthless, when all along, the odds were against me.’
Nothing would make Matteo see her in the light of someone to have as a partner. She suddenly felt dumb for even entertaining such a notion in the first place. The embarrassment caused her to let out a light chuckle.
"Ha, it’s a miracle you’re still capable of dreaming of such lofty ideas." She said to herself, her voice filled with inescapable sorrow. After everything that had happened to her, she had somehow expected her hope and belief for a good man to be dashed completely.
So, where is this optimism coming from?!
Her throat tightened almost painfully as she struggled to withhold back the tears that welled in her eyes, desperate for release.
She sprawled the gown on the bed and unbuttoned deftly, sniffing hard and willing her control not to ebb.
She threw the cold latex over her body and walked toward the dress mirror. Her fair skin was riddled with scars from her past, scars that had haunted her until the night that she lost herself in the arms of the one she had always had feelings for.
He had told me that I’m perfection. He had kissed every one of my prominent scars. Was all that a hoax to get me to loosen up?
Her fingers danced over the scab one last time before she drew the ends of her gown together and buttoned up slowly. When she had finished, she looked at the end result of her attempt at order.
The hole in her dress stood out prominently in her entire outfit. It was almost shameful to imagine stepping out in this state. Her hair was a messy attempt at making a bun. The rough locks radiating a golden hue gave off the aura of a fiery nymph in heat.
Her eyes were an otherworldly sapphire blue that glistened with unshed tears. Somehow, she’d come to see what had pushed Matteo into taking her as he did the previous night. She looked utterly sinful even in work mode. And that was how she managed to get him to bed.
Her body had done the work of bringing him to her. It was purely lust. His heart was heavily guarded – especially from the likes of her.
She turned away from the mirror and reached for her bag and her phone. And then she paused to stare at her blank screen.
For some reason, she contemplated calling Beatrix and discussing with her about everything that had happened. But there was nothing that she could tell her. The way it stood, if she somehow got news that she’d gone down with Matteo... well, she wouldn’t have a problem with it.
But she was sent to him to work. Nothing should’ve gotten her into the entire situation to start with.
There was no need. Besides not being able to tell her, she wouldn’t even have the time to attend to her as she had travelled out of the country to live with her fiancé.
What use is there in telling his sister about some woman when he does not intend to keep her?
She turned to behold the entirety of the room one last time. She would definitely not be privileged to have such an opportunity again. She had lived out her welcome, and Matteo had taken care of her until now. He was still her boss, and she would not make one night of debauchery ruin her.
Heaving a deep sigh, she turned away, heading toward the door with determined steps.

"Mr. Quinn," Matteo’s employee, a ruddy cheeked lady in glasses, called out to him again, alerting him back to reality.
"Hm? Oh, yes, give me a moment, I’m still reading through it."
He went through the documents that had been presented to him by her for the umpteenth time. Each time he regained his focus and read through the first two lines, he would feel himself zoning out once again, his mind drifting back to the vivid events of the night before – with the woman of his dreams, with Stella.
Her delightful body had responded much more than he had thought it would. Her squirms, her moans, her body, everything was wickedly at alert, welcoming the invasion of his hands on her in every way.
He had thought that it would be just as every other women in his life had been – detached and awfully artificial about what they felt because of their own hidden agendas.
But Stella had been very responsive, her mind was truly pure and unguarded, she arched her back against his touch, taking him in with such wanton fervour it hurt his cock just remembering. He had drifted off in her arms after the sex, and for the first time in an awfully long time, he slept so peacefully, knowing he was safe in her arms.
What the hell is this?
He pressed his index finger and thumb on his eyes, trying to ease off the strain that now added to his overall discomfort.
"You don’t look so well, Mr. Quinn. Perhaps I should present the proposal another time." Matteo sighed when the suggestion was posed, immediately welcoming the thought of the brief moment of peace that would come after she left.
