Chapter 189: Broken her
Chapter 189: Broken her
Rhys struggled to find the right words, his voice strained with emotion. "I’m sorry, Beatrix. I never meant for any of this to happen. I thought I could protect you, keep you safe from the darkness that consumed me. But I only ended up dragging you deeper into it."
He reached out a trembling hand, wanting to comfort her, but she flinched away, her pain too raw to bear his touch. He let his hand fall, his own tears mingling with hers on the cold floor.
"I understand if you can’t forgive me," Rhys said, his voice barely a whisper. "I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I don’t deserve your love. But please know that everything I did, I did out of a twisted sense of justice. I thought I was avenging my own suffering, but in the process, I caused you unimaginable pain."
Beatrix turned to him, her eyes filled with a mixture of anguish and longing. "Rhys, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to forgive you. The betrayal cuts too deep. But I can’t deny the love I felt for you, and that love is what makes this hurt so much."
She took a step closer, her voice trembling with vulnerability.
"You and me." Beatrix swallowed nervously; she was almost afraid to ask, but she had to know.
"Was any of it real?"
Rhys stilled, and she held his breath, hoping, praying...
"No.I just guess I loved the idea of being loved by you more than I loved you.
Beatrix felt her heart shatter into a million tiny pieces, as if the world around her had suddenly crumbled. She stared at Rhys, her eyes welling up with tears, struggling to comprehend his words. It was as if the air had been sucked out of the room, leaving her gasping for breath.
The weight of his admission pressed down on her, threatening to consume her fragile hopes and dreams. Her voice trembled as she spoke, each word escaping her lips with a mixture of disbelief and pain. "But... but what about all those late-night conversations? The laughter we shared, the moments we cherished together... Were they all just... meaningless?"
Rhys averted his gaze, unable to meet her eyes. His hands trembled, and he clenched them into fists, struggling to find the right words to explain his actions. "I never meant to hurt you, Beatrix," he whispered, his voice strained. "But in the midst of our connection, I got caught up in the idea of love. I wanted to believe that what we had was real, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t."
Beatrix’s heartache turned into anger, mingling with the sorrow that consumed her. She felt a surge of emotions rising within her, demanding to be released. "How could you do this to me? How could you play with my feelings like this?" Her voice cracked, her words laced with the bitterness of betrayal.
Rhys reached out, his hand trembling as he brushed a strand of hair away from Beatrix’s face. "I never intended to hurt you," he repeated softly, his voice filled with regret. "But I was scared. Scared of facing the truth, scared of facing my own feelings. I convinced myself that what we had was real, but I was just fooling myself. And for that, I am truly sorry."
Beatrix felt torn between wanting to push him away and wanting to pull him closer. Conflicting emotions swirled inside her, the love she once felt for him battling against the pain he had caused. "I loved you, Rhys. I loved you with everything I had. And now... now I don’t even know what to believe anymore." Her voice trembled with vulnerability, her heart laid bare before him.
Rhys looked at her, his eyes filled with remorse and longing. "I know I can’t take back what I’ve done, but please believe me when I say that you were never just an idea to me. I cared about you deeply, but I let my own insecurities cloud my judgment. I wish I had been stronger, that I had been able to see the truth before it was too late."
Beatrix’s tears flowed freely now, cascading down her cheeks as she struggled to make sense of the shattered pieces of their relationship. She took a step back, needing the space to gather her thoughts and heal her wounded
She took a step closer, her voice trembling with vulnerability. "I need time, Rhys. Time to heal, to make sense of all of this. But right now, I can’t be near you. I can’t look at you without feeling like my heart is being torn apart."
Rhys nodded, his gaze fixed on the ground. "I understand, Beatrix. I’ll give you the space you need. Just know that I’ll always be here, waiting for a chance to make things right, even if it takes a lifetime."
With those words, Rhys turned and walked away, his steps heavy with the weight of his remorse. Beatrix watched him go, her heart aching with a -=mixture of love and pain. She knew that healing would take time, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that their paths were destined to cross again, whether by fate or by choice.
As the door closed behind him, Beatrix sank to her knees, the sobs wracking her body. The truth had shattered their love, but deep down, she couldn’t help but hope that one day, they would find a way to rebuild what was broken. Only time would tell if forgiveness and redemption were possible in the wake of such devastating revelations.
Somehow, she found herself nestled in her father’s lap, where gentle strokes caressed her hair while he whispered soothing words. Although crying into the lap of her father as a grown woman could have been incredibly embarrassing, she had reached a point where she no longer cared. She pondered why she always found herself in such predicaments, questioning what it was about her that rendered her so unlovable and susceptible to manipulation.
They had once claimed that she was the beacon of light in their darkness, their very source of joy. Yet, deep down, she recognized it as nothing more than falsehood. Every kiss, every uttered word, and every cherished moment now felt tainted.
Her eyes blazed with scorching tears, and each breath became a struggle. Pain permeated her being, both internally and externally, as she grappled with the anguish that consumed her.
Two men—-had broken her.
