Chapter 177: Memories 2
Chapter 177: Memories 2
Beatrix froze, shocked by his outburst. Rhys knew he sounded like a lunatic, but he couldn’t help it. He hated that she had to see him like this, unable to control his emotions.
Beatrix’s voice trembled as she spoke, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I begged them to stop," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "The man in charge, I begged him to make them stop. But he just looked at me with hate. And the worst part is, he had kids too."
Rhys felt tears stream down his face as he relived the memories, each one more vivid than the last. He felt disgusted with himself for being so vulnerable.
"But they didn’t..." he trailed off.
Beatrix felt her heart break as Rhys finally broke down. She watched as he covered his face with his hands, his whole body wracked with sobs. She could feel his pain and agony, and it was almost unbearable to witness.
"Why did they hurt me?" he whispered, his voice choked with tears. "What did I do? I was just a kid who had lost his parents."
Beatrix reached out to comfort him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders as he cried. She held him tight against her chest, letting him cry against her as she offered soothing whispers.
Rhys’ cries were unlike anything she had heard before. It was a sound of deep emotional and psychological pain, an anguished wail that came from the depths of his soul. It was almost primal, a sound that could be recognized by any human as inconsolable suffering.
Beatrix felt a deep ache in her chest as she held him, knowing that nothing she could say or do would take away his pain. All she could do was be there for him, to hold him and offer what little comfort she could.
"Focus on your breathing, Rhys - please. I’m right here, I’ve got you. Try and focus on my voice," Beatrix pleaded in a soft, trembling voice as Rhys gasps into his hands, still trying to process the flood of emotions crashing over him.
Beatrix was trying to hide her own distress, but Rhys could hear it in her voice. He felt guilty for burdening her with his pain. She didn’t deserve this, and he didn’t want to be a mental case around her. It wasn’t her problem to deal with.
It takes what feels like an eternity before Rhys is able to breathe properly again, but Beatrix doesn’t let go.
When he finally moves his hands away from his face and wraps them around her waist, she hugs him tighter, holding him close as he continues to cling to her for comfort.
Beatrix runs her fingers through the back of Rhys’ hair, resting her cheek on top of his head, and continues to offer comfort, saying, "I’m here for you, not going anywhere." However, after a long pause, her voice softens, and he could sense the pain in her words.
"I’m deeply sorry, Rhys, that you have been hurt by others. It breaks my heart that anyone would do such terrible things to you."
She could feel the solid beat of his heart against her ear as she rested her head against the warm skin of his back. He didn’t say anything, but slowly she felt his shoulders relax. He put his hand on top of hers.
After a long time, she let go, moved round, knelt in front of him. She gripped his face in her hands, made him look at her.
"You survived, Rhys. That’s all that matters." She could see the shadow of humiliation in his eyes, fought to control her anger at what he had been forced to endure, at what he was still enduring. "Don’t ever feel ashamed."
"You don’t think I’m less of a man?"
Where the hell had that question come from? he wondered. He’d never known the doubt was inside him until he’d asked her.
"There is nothing wrong with you Rhys , and the horrible fucking things people have put you though and done to you, were not your fault. You’re not less of a man, you’re mine. My man.
And I don’t care what I have to do, I’m gonna make sure one day you believe that..."
He stared at her. His intense gaze held hers for what felt like an eternity before he finally opened his mouth. "You’re not allowed to leave me," he told her hoarsely. He couldn’t bear to live without her. Not now. Not ever. For a second he was having second thoughts about his plan, the revenge. Was it even worth it? She was worth more than some stupid revenge.
Fuck. Why did she had to be that man’s daughter. Everything would’ve been so much easier. He wondered if she would think they had used her if she got to know the truth. He wanted to tell her this moment. The man, his monster was no one either than her father. But he didn’t want to ruin this day any further.
"Well then you’ve to make me happy," Beatrjx tried to joke, but he wasn’t seeing the humor.
"I can’t breathe without you," he confessed. "I don’t want to breathe without you."
Her heart burst with his words. She reached up to touch his cheek, and he nudged into her palm like he was just as in need of comfort. His gaze slipped in intensity for a moment, and her heart stumbled.
She gazed into his eyes and she saw love gleaming in there. She groaned and they lunged towards each other at the same time.
Their lips crashed together, and suddenly, his mouth covering her as his tongue licked over the curve of her lips and then thrust into her mouth with deep rhythmic sweeps. He groaned as he devoured her , his hands tangling in her hair, holding her head in place as he continued to kiss her like the sun couldn’t rise without her. Like she was everything.
