Chapter 171: Dinner

Chapter 171: Dinner

As Beatrix walked back to her room, her mind wandered back to what she had heard her father say. She knew her father wasn’t a good man but he was a good father nevertheless.

Whatever that he was protecting her from finding out it was best she didn’t probe any further. It was definitely for the best.

Lost in thoughts, Beatrix barely noticed when she had entered her room.

"So did he agree?" Stella asked her, a look of concern etched on her face.

Beatrix blinked, confusion married on her face.

"What?"

Stella looked at her friend skeptically.

"Is everything okay, Bea? You seem a little preoccupied," Stella asked, a hint of worry in her voice.

"Oh I’m fine, don’t worry. So what were you saying?" Beatrix said, forcing out a smile.

"Your father. You were going to ask him if we can go to dinner tonight, remember?"

"Yeah my father, right. How can I forget." Beatrix said, rubbing her neck as she let out a nervous chuckle.

"Let me call him to ask him. "

Stella raised her brows but said nothing.

Beatrix walked over to her phone, taking a deep breath, she dialed her father’s number, hoping that he would allow her to go out with Stella. Her father picked up on the second ring.

"Hey, Dad, can I ask you something?" Beatrix said, her voice tentative.

"Of course, honey. What’s on your mind?" her father replied, his voice warm and reassuring.

"Well, Stella and I were planning on going out for dinner tonight, and I was wondering if it’s okay with you. With everything that’s been going on, I didn’t want to add to your stress," Beatrix explained, hoping her father would grant her permission.

Her father paused for a moment before answering. "I don’t see why not. You deserve to have some fun and spend time with your friends. Just be safe and come back at a reasonable time, okay? I will let people protect you in the dark so that you don’t get overwhelmed with security."

Beatrix smiled, grateful for her father’s understanding. "Thank you, Dad. I promise I’ll be back before midnight."

After hanging up, Beatrix turned to Stella, who was waiting patiently. "He said it’s okay for us to go out tonight."

Stella grinned, "Great! Let’s get ready then."

Beatrix walked over to her closet, feeling a wave of excitement wash over her. She hadn’t gone out in a while, and the thought of spending a night out with her best friend was exactly what she needed.

As she rummaged through her clothes, trying to decide what to wear, her mind wandered back to Damien and what she had heard. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong, but she decided to push the thought aside for now and focus on enjoying her evening.

After selecting her outfit, Beatrix applied some makeup, fixed her hair, and slipped on her shoes. She walked over to Stella, who was waiting by the door.

"You look amazing," Stella complimented her, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"You too," Beatrix replied, smiling. "Let’s go have some fun."

As they stepped out of the apartment and the driver dropped them onto the bustling city streets, Beatrix felt a sense of freedom wash over her. For the first time in a month, she felt alive, and the worries that had been consuming her slowly dissipated.

Beatrix and Stella arrived at the restaurant just as the sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow across the sky. The restaurant was nestled in a bustling street with twinkling lights strung above their heads. Beatrix, dressed in a sleek black dress, and Stella, in a crisp white blouse and dark jeans, were greeted by the hostess and shown to their table.

As they sat down, they took in the ambiance of the restaurant - the walls were adorned with artwork, and the soft glow of candles created an intimate atmosphere. The sound of soft jazz music filled the air, adding to the sophisticated feel of the place.

The aroma of garlic and seafood immediately hit their noses. They were promptly greeted by a hostess who led them to their table, which was situated by the window overlooking the city.

As they perused the menu, Stella leaned over to Beatrix and whispered, "I’ve been dying to try their linguine with clam sauce. What are you thinking?"

Beatrix smiled and replied, "That sounds perfect. And maybe we can share an order of shrimp cocktail to start?"

"Great idea," Stella agreed, flagging down their waiter.

As the waiter approached their table, Beatrix ordered the shrimp cocktail and Stella ordered the Caesar salad for an appetizer.

"And for our entrees?" the waiter asked, ready to take their orders.

"We’ll both have the linguine with clam sauce, please," Beatrix said with a smile.

"Excellent choice," the waiter replied, scribbling down their orders on his notepad. "Would you like any wine with your dinner?"

Beatrix hesitated for a moment before glancing at Stella, who gave her a knowing nod. "Yes, please. We’ll have a bottle of your house white wine," Beatrix said decisively.

"Excellent choice," the waiter said, nodding as he took their menu and headed towards the kitchen.

As they waited for their food, Stella and Beatrix sipped on their wine and chatted about their week. The atmosphere in the restaurant was lively, with the sounds of chatter and clinking glasses filling the air.

Soon enough, their appetizers arrived. The shrimp cocktail was served on a bed of ice with a homemade cocktail sauce on the side. Stella and Beatrix both took a shrimp, dipped it into the sauce, and savored the delicious taste.

Before long, their entrees arrived, and they both gasped at the sight of the steaming hot linguine with clam sauce. The pasta was cooked to perfection, with the clams and sauce perfectly seasoned and just the right amount of garlic.

As they finished their meal, they sat back in their chairs, feeling satisfied and content. The waiter approached with a dessert menu, and they decided to share a decadent chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

As the night wore on, they left the restaurant and walked around the city, enjoying the lively atmosphere. They stopped by a street performer, who was playing an acoustic guitar, and joined the small crowd gathered around him.

Beatrix felt a sense of joy wash over her as she listened to the music, watching the people around her. For a moment, she forgot all her worries and just enjoyed the present moment.

As the performer finished his song, the crowd erupted in applause, and Beatrix and Stella joined in. The performer thanked them with a smile before starting another song.

Beatrix glanced at her watch and realized that it was almost midnight. "We should probably head back now," she said to Stella.

Stella nodded. They walked back to the car and the driver drove Stella to her apartment.

As they reached Stella’s apartment, they hugged each other goodbye, promising to do it again soon.

Once Beatrix got back to her room, feeling tired but content. She changed into her pajamas, crawled into bed, and picked her phone.

Taking a deep breath, she dialed Rhys’ number. On the second ring he picked up.

"Hello, Love."
