Chapter 169: Past crimes

Chapter 169: Past crimes

Remo stormed into the living room of his family’s well-guarded house, his fists clenched in anger.

He had just received yet another package filled with evidence of his father’s past crimes this time this time and he was sick and tired of it. If it falls into the wrong hands, chaos would happened.

"Who the hell is sending us these packages?" he demanded, his voice booming through the room.

Ares and Matteo looked up from their seats on the couch, both of them visibly shaken by Remo’s outburst.

"I don’t know, Remo," Ares sighed, frustration laced in his voice. "We’ve been trying to figure it out, but we can’t find any leads."

Remo let out a frustrated sigh and began pacing back and forth in front of the fireplace.

"This is insane," he muttered. "We’ve got security cameras, guards at the gate, and yet someone keeps slipping these packages through our defenses. It’s like they’re taunting us."

Matteo, who had been scrolling through his phone, suddenly spoke up. "Hey, I just got a text from one of the men. He says he saw something strange at the post office near here."

Remo’s ears perked up. "What did he see?"

"He said there was a guy there who was sending out a bunch of packages with our address on them.

He took a picture of him and sent it to me."

Remo snatched the phone out of his brother’s hand and examined the photo. Sure enough, there was a man standing at the post office counter, with a stack of packages addressed to their house.

"That’s it," Remo said, his eyes blazing with anger. "I’m going down there right now to confront this guy."

Ares and Matteo decided to go with him but Remo declined. Too many of them will probably tip the guy off.

He stormed out of the house and into his car, driving at breakneck speed to the post office.

When he arrived, he saw the man from the photo still at the counter, sending out more packages. Remo marched up to him and grabbed him by the collar.

"What the hell do you think you’re doing?" he bellowed.

The man’s eyes widened in fear as Remo shoved the photo in his face.

"You’ve been sending these packages to my house, haven’t you? Why?"

The man stammered and tried to back away, but Remo held him firm.

"Speak up, damn it!"

Finally, the man relented. "I was paid to do it," he said, his voice barely audible.

"Paid by who?" Remo demanded.

"I don’t know his name or his face. He just sent me the instructions," the man said. "And he gave me a lot of money to send these packages to your house. He said he wanted to make sure your family knew the truth about your father’s crimes."

Remo’s hands tightened around the man’s collar as he fought to control his anger. "You tell whoever hired you that if they come near my family again, I’ll make sure they regret it."

With that, he shoved the man away and stormed out of the post office, his mind racing with thoughts of how to protect his family from whoever was out to get them.

Remo drove back home, his mind racing with questions. He couldn’t believe that someone was willing to go to such lengths to expose his father’s past crimes. They were shady people in the mafia but they all understood the unspoken boundaries.

As he walked into the house, he made a beeline for his father’s study, where he knew he would find him.

"Father," he said, his voice controlled but firm. "Do you have any idea who is behind these packages?"

His father looked up from his desk, his face betraying no emotion. "What packages?"

"The ones we have been receiving for the past month now!" Remo said, his anger beginning to bubble up again.

His father sighed and rubbed his forehead wearily. "I had hoped that would never come back to haunt me," he said. "But I suppose it was only a matter of time."

Remo’s eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean?"

"There are people who hold grudges, Remo," his father said, his voice low and ominous. "People who have been wronged by me in the past. It’s possible that one of them has decided to seek revenge."

Remo’s mind whirled as he tried to process this information. He had always known that his father had a shady past. He didn’t build this empire relying on only hard work and he didn’t become leader for so long without some bloodshed, but he had never imagined that it would come back to haunt him in such a visceral way.

"What are we going to do?" he asked, his voice shaking with emotion.

"We’ll increase security," his father said, his voice firm. "We’ll make sure that whoever is behind these packages can’t get anywhere near our family. And we’ll find out who is behind this, no matter what it takes."

Remo nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. He knew that his father was a man of action, and that he would stop at nothing to protect his family.

"I’m more concerned about Beatrix, your sister in all of this. She has been through a lot already, we can’t afford to let her get hurt again."

Remo’s father nodded in agreement. "Yes, Beatrix is vulnerable right now. We need to make sure she’s safe."

Remo knew his sister had been struggling ever since their mother passed away, and the recent events would only make things worse with her being kidnapped lately.

He felt a surge of protectiveness towards her and vowed to do everything in his power to keep her safe.

"I’ll talk to the security team and make sure they keep a close eye on her," Remo said.

His father gave him a grateful smile. "Thank you, Remo. I know I can count on you to take care of your sister."

Remo nodded, and the two of them fell into a tense silence, each lost in their own thoughts. After a few moments, his father spoke up again.

"I’ll call a meeting with our associates tomorrow," he said. "We need to figure out who is behind this and put a stop to it before it gets out of hand."

Remo knew that his father was right. They needed to act fast before things spiraled out of control. He stood up and walked towards the door, his mind already racing with ideas for how to increase security and gather information about their unknown enemy.

"I’ll do everything I can to help," he said firmly, before stepping out of the room and closing the door behind him. As he walked down the hallway, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of foreboding. He knew that they were in for a rough ride, but he also knew that his family was strong enough to weather any storm.
