The Supreme Soldier in the City -
Chapter 62 - 62 62 Warehouse Manager
62: Chapter 62 Warehouse Manager 62: Chapter 62 Warehouse Manager James Brown had a rough night.
Sunny Nguyen was quite bold when she got crazy, especially with her little mouth that never failed to rejuvenate him every time he paused.
It was thanks to James Brown’s peculiar stamina, as any other man would have been screaming from exhaustion by then.
The next morning when James woke up, Sunny had already gotten out of bed and was tidying up in the bathroom.
James got up too and went to the bathroom, standing to pee.
However, feeling a bit awkward, he chose to sit down instead.
Sunny turned to glance at him and chuckled, “Don’t men usually prefer to stand?
Why are you sitting?”
James laughed and said, “I didn’t want to splash you.”
This reminded him of Gina Lopez, when he stayed at her house, who wouldn’t allow him to pee standing up.
Sunny rolled her eyes at James and said, “Could you be any more disgusting?”
“Is it really that disgusting?
I just checked, and that area is swollen now.”
Sunny’s face instantly flushed red.
She had been very conservative in bed with her ex-husband and could never do such things.
But with James, she became wild and could not get enough.
Now that she reflected on it, she couldn’t make sense of her actions from last night, and unable to bear the insanity of the previous night she darted out of the bathroom.
Sunny’s clothes from the previous night hadn’t been washed, so she wore Emily Jenkins’s clothes to rush James to leave, wanting to change at the hotel.
James hurriedly got ready, drove Sunny to the hotel, and after a while, she emerged carrying a bag and said, “This is your neighbor’s clothing.
Return it to her later, and thank her for me.
Maybe get it dry-cleaned first.”
James started the car and said, “Why don’t you keep it for now?
It would look odd if I brought a set of women’s clothing to the office.
Give it to me after work.”
Sunny immediately suggested, “How about we just find a dry cleaner, leave the clothes there, and you can pick them up when you have time?”
That seemed like a good plan, so they dropped the clothes at a dry cleaner near James’s home before heading to the office.
Since James had driven Sunny the day before, it didn’t seem unusual for them to arrive at the office together.
However, as they approached the office, Sunny received a call from Gina Lopez, asking her to go to the bank, so James had to turn the car around and take Sunny to a commercial bank in YODC City Center.
After waiting downstairs for a couple of hours, Gina and Sunny walked out of the bank together, chatting.
“Ms.
Lopez, I will head back to the office now,” said Sunny as she opened the car door to get in.
Gina looked puzzled.
It was common for company drivers to open the car door when they saw an executive, and though Gina was not one for such protocols, she had gotten used to it.
But today the driver didn’t come forward, prompting her to take a second look, though she felt more relieved when she saw it was James driving.
“Hello, Ms.
Lopez,” James greeted.
Gina nodded and then headed straight for her car.
She didn’t use a driver because all the drivers were men, which she found inconvenient.
Plus, driving herself provided an excuse not to drink at social events.
Watching James drive away with Sunny, an idea crossed Gina’s mind: to recruit James as her personal driver.
She pondered the idea.
James had stayed at her house for a few days, and during a visit to her parents, they even shared a bed, but he had never taken advantage of her.
This reassured Gina.
Having James as a driver would let her ponder over matters while traveling, instead of having to concentrate solely on driving to avoid accidents.
The more she thought about it, the more feasible it seemed — it would also lighten her workload.
But since she was away on a business trip for a week, she decided she would make arrangements when she got back.
James drove Sunny back to the office.
On the way, Sunny was no longer as enchanting as she had been the day before; now, she returned to her efficient, white-collar persona, diligently reviewing documents in the car.
This made James feel relieved; he was genuinely afraid Sunny might fall for him because of their encounters.
After entering the Logistics Department office, James Brown had just sat down when Emma Davis called him over.
James Brown entered the office of the Logistics Department head, Emma Davis.
Emma Davis had him sit down and said, “James, I have a task for you.”
“Please speak, Minister Davis,” James was not very familiar with Emma Davis, but he felt that she was quite meticulous in her work.
“There’s a temporary leave taken by the manager of our B Region’s warehouse, and currently, there’s no one to manage it.
The HR department can’t send anyone at the moment either.
Since this falls under Logistics, I’ve considered sending someone.
Deputy Minister Douglas Smith mentioned that you’re very energetic in your work and proposed that you go.
I think as a young man, it’s a good opportunity for you to gain some experience.
Do you have any objections?”
James was momentarily stunned.
He had interacted with the warehouse before and knew the manager.
Despite seemingly being demoted by leaving the office, it was actually a promotion, especially since it was Douglas Smith who had suggested it.
It seemed there might be underlying issues.
“James, I know the working environment in the warehouse isn’t great, but it can indeed be a great chance for you to grow.
Don’t pass up this opportunity, even if it’s just being a temporary overseer for a week.
It’s still a valuable training experience for you, and I hope you won’t turn it down.”
“I won’t, Minister.
When such a good opportunity arises, I definitely want to seize it,” James quickly responded.
Emma Davis nodded and said, “Then that’s settled.
You’ll head over this afternoon.
These few days, there’s a lot of incoming and outgoing stock at the warehouse.
You must manage the inventory well and ensure nothing goes wrong.”
“I understand.”
After leaving Emma Davis’s office, James was still confused, but he knew one thing for certain: Douglas Smith was not being kind without a reason.
Perhaps, it was a trap.
Being just a junior employee, was there really a need for that man to deal with him like this?
“What did Minister Davis want with you?” James had just sat down when Sarah Utah leaned over and asked softly, “James, did Minister Davis need something?”
James gave Sarah a slight smile and said, “She wants me to temporarily manage the warehouse at the B Region for a few days.”
“Wow, doesn’t that mean you got promoted?” Sarah exclaimed in surprise, not very loudly, but loud enough for everyone in the office to hear.
Jessica Wilson immediately pushed her desk, and her chair slid next to James’ as she said in amazement, “James, you must be joking.
You’ve only been in our Logistics Department for a few days, and now you’re being sent to manage the warehouse?”
James shrugged and replied, “The manager at the warehouse in B Region had to take leave, and there’s a shipment coming in.
There’s no one else to handle it, so they sent me.”
Jessica Wilson slapped James on the shoulder, “That’s great news!
Do you know that being a warehouse manager is quite a cushy job?
Whether it’s dealing with incoming or outgoing goods, if you play your cards right, there’s a lot to gain.”
James immediately shook his head and said, “Ms.
Wilson, I wouldn’t know about that.
I’m just going to be a temporary custodian.”
“That’s true, but even being a leader for a few days is great.
I’ve been to the warehouse at B Region, and there are over a dozen people there.
Once you’re in charge, everyone has to listen to you, unlike at the company where everyone can boss you around.”
Hearing this, James puffed out his chest and said, “Ms.
Wilson, you’re right.
I’ve always been a pawn, and now I can be a leader for a couple of days and enjoy it.”
Everyone congratulated James, especially Sarah, who was incredibly happy for him.
However, James didn’t mention that it was Douglas Smith’s arrangement; otherwise, everyone would definitely suspect Douglas’s intentions and worry about him.
James hadn’t been in the Logistics Department for long, but he got along well with everyone, so he didn’t want them to be concerned about him.
After lunch, James first went home to pick up a couple of sets of clothes.
He’d be living in the warehouse this week, which was a reason why some people disliked being a warehouse manager — the location was often remote and not well connected by transport.
For non-locals, returning home could be inconvenient.
When he reached the warehouse at about three o’clock, the temporary supervisor, a man in his thirties named Brandon Cooper, had already received the company’s notice and warmly welcomed James into a shabby office.
There, James met all eleven personnel of the warehouse — aside from Brandon Cooper, there were two forklift operators, five stevedores, two other warehouse custodians, and an old gatekeeper.
Aside from the two female custodians, who were both in their forties and dressed plainly, the rest of the nine were men.
Even with the female custodians, there was little appeal in comparison to his corporate colleagues.
