After calmly thinking it over, she attempted to salvage their marriage, to no avail—her husband was adamant about being with the other woman and filed for divorce.

Devastated, Sunny requested to slow things down.

She decided to work at a branch office to avoid the strange looks from colleagues at the headquarters.

But soon after arriving in YODC City, her husband incessantly pressured her, exacerbating her pain.

That’s why she went to a bar to drown her sorrows on that first day in YODC City and ended up spending a night with James Brown out of a desire for revenge.

Just yesterday, she finally went through with the divorce proceedings with her husband.

Unable to bear the emotional trauma again, she returned to the bar to drown her sorrows and unexpectedly ran into James Brown once more.

Although Sunny did not directly mention that both of her drunken nights were spent with James Brown, she only talked about her own pain during those times.

James, however, realized that both times he had been the one to accompany her, which really felt like winning the lottery, but it also seemed too coincidental.

“Sigh, talking so much with you, I’ve felt much lighter,” Sunny said after finishing her story upon entering DEOT City, not showing sadness but rather a sense of relief.

James Brown chuckled and replied, “If you’re feeling relieved, that’s good.

We must always look forward, right?”

Sunny gave a light laugh and said, “Hehe, I’ve shared mine, so you’ll have to talk about your story on the way back.”

“I really have nothing to say.

My life is very simple—school, military, then work.”

Sunny glared at James playfully, “Don’t try to brush me off.

I’m not that easy to fool.”

Under Sunny’s guidance, James quickly found the headquarters.

Before she got out of the car, Sunny said to him, “We’ve missed lunchtime.

Go find something to eat first.

I guess it will take a while for me to finish up here.

You can also roam around if you like; I’ll call you when I’m done.”

James nodded, watched Sunny enter the building, and then drove away.

James had actually visited DEOT City before, but that was when he was still in school, and his parents had taken him on a trip here.

Now, however, the world had changed, and his parents were no longer with him.

After filling his stomach at a small restaurant, James parked his car below the company’s building, closed his eyes, and dozed off.

The night before had been a wild one with Sunny, and he hadn’t slept well the day before, either.

Having missed out on good sleep for two days, it was the perfect time to catch up on some rest.

Having slept for over an hour and still not hearing from Sunny, he waited another half hour before she finally called him.

Then, a short while later, Sunny came down from the building.

But as Sunny reached the company’s entrance, a man and woman emerged from a Mercedes and accidentally approached her from the opposite side.

Sunny’s face immediately turned sour, and just as she was about to leave, the woman stopped her.

James was smoking at the time and had stepped out of the car, witnessing the scene and overhearing their conversation.

The woman, wearing a fur coat and heavy makeup that still couldn’t hide how unattractive she was, had an arrogant demeanor.

Her voice was rough, almost like a damaged gong, as she said with a mocking tone, “Well, if it isn’t Sunny Nguyen.

I heard you went to work at a branch office.”

Her appearance, paired with such a voice, was nauseating.

It was a wonder what kind of man could tolerate her.

James glanced at the man beside her—he was quite handsome, tall and slim, with a refined look.

At the moment, he seemed awkward, looking at Sunny and opening his mouth but saying nothing.

From the expressions of the three, James deduced that the man must be Sunny’s ex-husband and the obnoxious woman the daughter of the vice-chairman from headquarters.

Money definitely talks—a woman like that can still land a good-looking guy.

Sunny took a deep breath, smiled faintly, and said, “I’ve got things to do; I should be going now.”

“Don’t leave yet.” The woman actually took a step to block Sunny’s way, swaying her plump body, saying, “I’ve got some news for you.

Next month, we are getting married.”

Sunny looked at the man, her smile unchanged, and responded, “Then congratulations to you.”

“Giggle giggle…” The woman instantly laughed so hard that her branches trembled uncontrollably, but the laugh was indescribably ugly, and even the mink coat couldn’t hide the quivering of her flesh, “I still have to tell you a secret, our John Stone is ever so nice to me, you know?”

Sunny Nguyen’s face suddenly darkened, “Sorry, I don’t want to hear about such things from you.”

“How can you not listen?

After all, you are John Stone’s ex-wife, aren’t you?

What’s the matter, you still have feelings for her?” Mary Johnson glared at John Stone and suddenly shouted at the top of her lungs.

John Stone’s body shook, he looked up at Sunny Nguyen, clenched his teeth, and said, “Yes, it is my wish too, I never want to see you again.”

Sunny Nguyen looked at both of them, then suddenly raised her hand and slapped John Stone’s face, a surge of pent-up anger unleashed, having never thought to hit this man even during the divorce, but today, in front of the company, under the gaze of those people, she could no longer hold back.

“Slap!” A crisp sound echoed as Sunny Nguyen’s slap squarely hit John Stone’s face, and the man didn’t dodge, showing a trace of relief on his face, obviously still feeling some guilt towards Sunny Nguyen.

“John Stone, she hit you, why don’t you hit back?” the woman mocked John Stone.

John Stone’s lips moved, he said, “Forget it, let her slap me once.”

The woman immediately yelled, “What do you mean ‘let her slap me once’?

You hit her back now!

Do you still have feelings for her?

I’m telling you, John Stone, if you don’t hit her, you can forget about marrying me.

Just keep being your little employee.”

John Stone trembled, looking at Sunny Nguyen with conflicted eyes, but eventually, he raised his hand.

Sunny Nguyen coldly watched the man she once loved, waiting for his hand to strike her face; at this moment, her heart truly died.

But for the sake of her pride, she still stared intently at John Stone.

“Hit her!

If you don’t hit her, you can’t prove that you’ve completely cut ties with her, can’t prove your love for me,” the woman continued to shout.

John Stone clenched his teeth and finally swung his hand towards Sunny Nguyen’s face.

But just then, a shadow rushed forward and kicked John Stone, sending him tumbling, then followed up with a backhand slap to the woman, glaring as he shouted, “Where did this damned hag come from, truly despicable.”

“You…

you…” The woman covered her face, shocked as she looked at James Brown.

James Brown stood tall and said, “What ‘you’?

I just can’t stand seeing a damned hag like you acting all high and mighty just because you have some money.

I don’t know anybody here, but I just felt like hitting you.” He then delivered two more slaps to the plump woman before kicking her down to the ground.

“Security, security!

Catch him for me, quick.” The woman immediately began to scream hoarsely.

The security guards at the door had been watching the commotion, but now they rushed over, trying to catch James Brown.

But James Brown was too slippery to be caught by the four guards; he even managed to kick each one of them down, taking down all four guards who ended up sprawled on the ground, right on top of the plump woman, pressing down on her like a stack of falling dominoes, flattening her as she wailed in pain.

At this moment, James Brown winked at Sunny Nguyen, then turned and ran off from the company’s entrance, disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Sunny Nguyen watched, dumbfounded, and almost tried to stop James Brown, but his movements were too fast, and before she had a chance to intervene, James Brown had already run away.
