64: Chapter 66: Brotherhood!
Both of them walked toward the hotel lobby.
At this moment, the lobby was occupied by Li Guo’an and his five disciples, along with some other idlers.
When they saw Li Xiaoqiang and his brother approaching, everyone wore a smile.
Li Xiaoqiang approached Li Guo’an and asked, “Grandpa, have the people from the Yunzang Military Region arrived?”
Li Guo’an replied with a slight smile, “They have arrived.
They’re at the airstrip behind the hotel, but you need to go outside the hotel first.
It seems someone is waiting for you there.”
“Waiting for me?” Li Xiaoqiang said, furrowing his brows.
At that moment, Li Xiaoqiang looked outside the hotel and saw a sleazy middle-aged uncle with his hands crossed inside his sleeves, staring intently inside the hotel.
Li Xiaoqiang did not expect it to be Long San.
He said to everyone, “Please wait here for a moment, I’ll be right back.”
After speaking, Li Xiaoqiang made his way outside the hotel.
When Li Xiaoqiang approached Long San, he asked, “Brother, what are you trying to do?”
Long San revealed his yellow teeth and grinned, “I’ve written the characters; take a look and see if they’re right.”
After saying this, Long San stepped aside.
Li Xiaoqiang stared at the writing on the ground, and his frown deepened.
Li Xiaoqiang took a deep breath and asked, “You’ve been squatting here all night?”
Long San, dressed in an increasingly shabby long gown, stretched out a hand to scratch an itch on his body.
It looked like he hadn’t bathed in a long time.
He didn’t say anything and just nodded.
Facing all this, Li Xiaoqiang didn’t know what to say.
He stared at Long San and remarked, “The characters are correct, but why are you waiting here for me?
What’s the meaning of this?”
Long San laughed and said, “I want to hang out with you; got any cigarettes?”
Upon hearing this, Li Xiaoqiang laughed lightly, “Hehe, you do think highly of me.
You don’t know anything about me; why the heck would you want to follow me?”
Long San looked toward the Tianwang Hotel and laughed, “Because, I believe in fate!”
Li Xiaoqiang sighed and said, “Well, in that case, go change into a new set of clothes at the hotel.
Consider it my treat.
If after three days you still decide to follow me, then you can repeat that statement!”
After speaking, Li Xiaoqiang returned inside the hotel and had a waiter take Long San to change into clean clothes.
Once Li Xiaoqiang entered the lobby again, Li Guo’an looked at him and asked, “Who is that person?”
Li Xiaoqiang replied, “Just a strange acquaintance who wants to hang out with me.
It’s bizarre—I’m a student; I have no idea why he’s so keen on following me.”
Upon hearing this, Li Guo’an looked out toward the lobby entrance at the middle-aged uncle standing with hands stuffed in his sleeves, looking around from side to side, and chuckled, “That is indeed quite strange.”
Without further discussion about Long San, they proceeded to the private airstrip behind the Tianwang Hotel.
A military helicopter was parked on the tarmac, and an officer with the rank of a two-star general approached Li Guo’an, removed his cap, and bowed slightly, “Mr.
Li, Chief Dong has sent me to convey his regards to you.”
Li Guo’an chuckled and nodded slightly, “Hehe, no need to be so formal.
My grandson is going to your Yunzang Military Region.
Tell your chief not to give him any special treatment; treat him just like any other soldier.”
The officer was clever; he simply smiled faintly and nodded.
The officer’s gaze then shifted to Spore, and a look of surprise flashed in his eyes.
He had been mentally prepared, but seeing Spore in person was still a shock.
The officer said with a smile, “We can leave now.”
Hearing this, Spore turned to Li Xiaoqiang and said, “I want to be with my locust; I don’t want to go to the military region.”
Li Xiaoqiang held Spore’s hand and looked up, “You have to go.
Grandpa is old, and we must listen to whatever he says.
To show filial respect, you need to comply with his wishes.”
Hearing that, Spore grinned foolishly and said, “I’ll listen to you, ok!”
After he finished speaking, he drooled again.
Seeing this, Li Xiaoqiang said solemnly, “You might not realize the effort Grandpa has put into you, but I do.
It’s uncertain how many years you’ll be gone for, so you should kowtow to Grandpa.”
Hearing Li Xiaoqiang’s words, Long San turned around, walked over to Li Guo’an, and knelt down with a thud, staring at him and saying, “I know you’re a good person, you’ve always done everything for my brother and me.
But I feel like since my brother is older than me, I should listen to him.
Liu Toudao once said, ‘An elder brother is like a father.’ I know my brother often scolds me for my own good.
He’s afraid other families’ daughters won’t fancy me and that I won’t be able to find a wife.”
“You’ve raised me up to this point.
I’ve never called you Grandpa, not because I didn’t want to, but because deep down I’ve always acknowledged you as my Grandpa, no need for formalities!
Grandpa, I’m kowtowing to you now.”
After finishing his words, Long San kowtowed three times loudly to Li Guo’an.
Li Guo’an watched Long San kowtow, his eyes gradually moistening, “Little product, don’t say anything more, you make Grandpa want to cry.”
After Li Guo’an spoke, he looked up at the azure sky, straining to stop the tears swirling in his eyes from falling.
Long San turned to Li Xiaoqiang, staring at him and saying, “The people in the village always ask why I call you Grasshopper, hehe, they don’t know, only I know.
Grasshoppers on the same rope are brothers for life.”
Having said that, Long San unexpectedly knelt down in front of Li Xiaoqiang, “You’re four years older than me.
Mom said that ever since I was born, it was always you carrying me on your back.
I was raised by you; Mom didn’t put in much effort.
I don’t know how to repay you, I should kowtow to you twice.
The first is for taking Mom’s worries, and the second is because you are my brother!”
After he finished speaking, Long San kowtowed twice in a row.
Having finished his kowtows, Long San looked straight into Li Xiaoqiang’s eyes, flashing a row of shiny teeth with a silly but happy grin, his eyes squeezed into a sliver.
Li Xiaoqiang watched as drool continuously dripped from Long San’s mouth, tears streaming out uncontrollably.
He quickly reached out, wiping Long San’s drool while choking up, “Long San, I’ve told you…
told you so many times, stop drooling.
You must listen.
You have to bring a pretty wife into our village, have a bunch of kids, you hear me?”
Li Xiaoqiang’s hands were busy wiping Long San’s drool.
His own tears fought to escape, and his body trembled.
Everyone around them silently wept, witnessing the bond between the two brothers — a brotherhood for life, a simple-minded younger brother, a naive elder brother.
Long San continued to drool, tears in his eyes falling as quietly as his saliva.
He foolishly stared at the young man wiping his drool.
Li Xiaoqiang sobbed, “Mom said men shouldn’t cry, so you shouldn’t either.
Look, your brother hasn’t cried, you must listen to your brother.”
But what Li Xiaoqiang didn’t know was that his tears were flowing fastest and most abundantly at the scene.
Long San smiled even more ridiculously, with tears and saliva mixing together.
He said naively, “Brother, you’re crying, you lied to me!”
“I’m not lying to you, brother…
brother isn’t crying, I’m just happy,” Li Xiaoqiang said, blinking hard because Long San was becoming blurry before him.
Li Xiaoqiang also knelt down, wiping Long San’s continuously drooling mouth, “Brother is lucky to have you as his younger brother.”
Li Xiaoqiang’s voice was a bit hoarse, “The military is not like the village.
If anyone says you drooling is embarrassing, just punch them, understand?”
“Got it!” Long San nodded.
Li Xiaoqiang wiped away the tears from Long San’s face, “Get up, no more crying, hurry up and go.”
Hearing this, Long San stood up and walked towards the helicopter, looking back three steps at a time.
Long San stared at Li Xiaoqiang’s back, his fists gradually trembling.
As the helicopter took to the sky, Long San suddenly shouted loudly, “Brother, I’m off, take good care of Mom and Grandpa!”
The words echoed in the air.
