But before Li Xiaoqiang could begin treating her, Liu Chunmei’s skirt was accidentally set ablaze by the kerosene lamp.

As Li Xiaoqiang yelled out in shock, Liu Chunmei let out a piercing scream.

Li Xiaoqiang quickly grabbed a piece of clothing from beside and rushed to extinguish the flames engulfing Liu Chunmei.

Once he had put out the fire, he was overcome by a sense of foreboding.

Both had screamed at the same time, and Liu Chunmei’s father, Liu Toudao, must have heard them.

Li Xiaoqiang felt a cold sweat breaking out on his back, his body jolted, and he choked out, “Aunt Liu, I have to leave right now.”

No sooner had Li Xiaoqiang spoken than he saw the bearded Liu Toudao burst in, bare-chested and with chest hair like a monkey’s, his hand brandishing a gleaming pig-slaughtering knife.

Just as Liu Toudao reached the doorway, he heard a man talking about the cornfield, saying he was waiting there for his daughter, which ignited his rage.

With a ferocious expression and spittle flying, he stormed into the room, “Which bastard dared to deceive my daughter?

I’ll stab you dead, you worthless rascal.”

When Liu Toudao saw Li Xiaoqiang, his eyeballs almost popped out.

He revealed his yellow teeth and said, “Xiaoqiang, you little beast, daring to do such things as a student, I’ll chop you to pieces, damn it.”

As he spoke, Liu Toudao raised the pig-slaughtering knife and aimed it at Li Xiaoqiang, who, startled, quickly clambered to the window and leapt out, wailing, “Uncle Liu, this is a misunderstanding, don’t shout so loudly, if this gets out, it’s bad for both of us.”

Liu Toudao was not in the mood to listen to Li Xiaoqiang’s explanations.

He bellowed, “Xiaoqiang, I’ll chop you to pieces, sneaking around with someone at your young age.”

Suddenly, that sentence echoed through the valley and, in no time, over a hundred families in Gancha Town were awakened by it.

Li Xiaoqiang ran frantically towards the outside of the Liu family courtyard while Liu Toudao, dragging the pig-slaughter knife behind him, pursued and, during the chase, his mouth never stopped, “Folks, come judge for yourselves.”
