Chapter 370: Facing the Council (4)
"You didn’t kill them, right?"
Medina asked playfully once he had taken his seat beside hers.
"Of course not. I didn’t even hurt them too badly. A few frost burns and slaps here and there."
He whispered because he knew Jade was still half awake. She, like the others, had woken up when those haughty brats had sauntered in.
"Most are asleep again?" He asked in confusion. He didn’t expect them to care about his fate against the young masters but surely they would be curious to know the outcome as it involved them in a certain sense too.
"They are tired. We have been on the road for days. And they know they are prisoners. A bit of hazing or bullying is expected. I guess at this moment all are just happy to have a soft and secure place to sleep. They are enjoying the last bit of freedom they have left."
Listening to Medina he realized once again how accepting people could be of their perceived fates. These women might have attempted to change a few things by joining the Witchkin but a defeat had broken their flimsy resolve.
"Why did you decide to still expose yourself? I thought you wanted to lay low. Yet, you go hitting young masters down to the ground the first chance you get?"
She was teasing him. And he knew that. He smiled wryly.
"I know. But sooner or later people are bound to uncover the truth. I mean, those elders are injured, not dead. They will talk once they are healed."
Hex left out the part where he didn’t wish to see this group of people being harassed a lot. Witchkin or not, they were just a bunch of down-on-their-luck people. They might not be innocent but they didn’t deserve to be bullied by a bunch of morons.
"Well, perhaps they will say something about you but if you act in time, it will be their words against Elize’s. And with their status and power there won’t be many who will wish to antagonize her a lot."
"What do you mean? They just have to make me drop the scarf or take a closer look at my eyes." His black colored eyes and hair had been a source of trouble for him ever since he remembered. He didn’t hate it. Even less, since it connected him to Medina. Whether she was the Witch or the incarnate of evil itself, it didn’t matter. An orphan like him was already happy having a connection to anyone.
"Or can you create something like the morphuse box right now?" Hex eyed her with a little hope in his eyes. Could she do it? They were still prisoners. How would she be able to find the resources and the means to create another bottle of that magical potion?
"Of course not?" Medina shook her head at once. "Do you think that thing is easy to create? Do you have the core of a Thousand-faced Chameleon?"
Hex shook his head. He had not even heard about such a creature before. "Then what do you suggest I do?"
Without the morphuse box he couldn’t change his appearance. If only that thing hadn’t been destroyed in his battle against the Asterella’s King.
"You don’t need any potion. You already have the ability to alter your appearance," Medina said to his confusion.
’I have such an ability? What ability lets me change–.’
Suddenly, it struck him. He indeed had an ability to alter his appearance. He had used it. But he remained confused. How would changing into the Dragon Bear help?
Medina seemed to have guessed what he was thinking.
"When you take the form of the bear, you alter your entire body. But with perfect control – from what I have seen and learned about you, your control exceeds the majority of the people – you can choose to change one minute detail. For example, if you try hard enough, you can change the color of your hair. Try to make it appear bluish white, like the fur of the Dragon Bear, and most will be fooled."
’That’s an option?’ Hex sensed his mouth fall open in shock. He didn’t think he would ever consider that as an option.
After ensuring no one was paying attention, he removed the scarf wrapped around his head and started to experiment.
At first, he struggled to keep the changes limited to his hair. After almost destroying the sofa by his sheer size and weight, he started to get the hang of it. Despite his perfect control, he still required a few tries before succeeding.
’It’s about controlling the dosage of the Souldust. The more I use it, the bigger the change.’ Hex went over the details of each try. The change occurred once he injected a certain amount of souldust into his heart.
Getting the right dosage took just three tries. The challenge lay in controlling the reaction and change to let only the color of his hair change.
Once he was done, he conjured a mirror with the Ice element to observe his appearance. With the white and blue hair he looked completely different. He looked more pure in a manner.
"I hope this is a normal color here or else it will still attract a lot of attention." Hex chuckled but he was indeed in doubt. He had not seen white and blue hair on anyone.
"It isn’t," Medina replied with a smirk on her face. "But it will work in throwing them off their tracks. Keep the scarf tied. It creates a layer of mystery and will keep the eyes away from you. For a while."
He just finished wrapping his head when the door to the room opened again. This time softer and without alerting the sleepers. Jonathan strolled with a goofy smile on his face. It seemed he got to meet the Tectonic guy.
"Let’s go. You are summoned before the High Elders," he said, adding, "don’t worry. Lady Elize has already spoken and ensured that not only you but even they might go free. But they still wish to speak to you."
