The Stonehearted Knight -
Chapter 339: Control your heart
Chapter 339: Control your heart
"A World’s Stone is a seed from which an entire world can be created. That means it has everything in its nascent stage present inside. It does everything that the world itself can do or has the ability to do. That’s why you can use it to refine chaotic energy, crystals, absorb energy, store energy and elements, and many more things even I’m unaware of."
Hex listened to Medina’s explanation with utmost focus. They sat side by side in the pod which could seat four people. The divisions between the front and back rows helped to converse in a whisper without alerting Cyantha’s mother and Jade.
They both looked surprised when the girl they believed to be shy and timid took her seat in the back row in the seat beside Hex. They didn’t say anything though. Hex caught Jade trying to peek at them now and again, but the tight seating hindered her movements.
"And that helps with refining the elements?"
The level of refinement of the crystal surpassed anything he had been able to before. According to his estimation, he would require at least a year to reach such a level. A year of fully dedicated training with the Ice element. In terms of his actual training regime it roughly equalled three to five years before he achieved such a mastery.
"Like I said, the world stone has everything inside it required to bloom into a new world. The elements you guide into it will follow the origin flow and reach perfection at once."
Hex sat silently in the pod, not even feeling the tumultuous journey with the pod. The seats inside held the bodies of the passenger firmly in their place, focusing on safety above comfort.
Although they could see the outside view, there was very little to see. The flow occurred inside the branch, filling their sight with dark, brown wood wherever they looked.
’This helps me save a lot of time in training. As long as I can direct the crystals through my heart, they will convert to the perfect state, enhancing all Techniques to their perfection.’
"Won’t it delay the Technique if I direct every element toward my heart first?"
Hex realized the issue with using elements in such a manner.
"That’s why you should work on making it akin to breathing. Do you need to think to breathe?"
So, he still had to train but his focus wouldn’t be on refining and gaining mastery over his elements, rather it should emphasize control even more.
’Control. Huh.’
"What happened?"
Despite not saying a word, his expressions might have revealed his inner thoughts. Whatever it was, it didn’t escape Medina’s sharp eyes.
"Nothing," Hex chuckled. "I often wondered why the baron never seemed to care about Techniques, Refinement, or Element Circles. His sole focus had been control. I think I understand why."
"I am not surprised. Mikhael Lichtenmane, I dreamt of meeting him once in my life. Tales of his valor, his wisdom, and battles swept the world. Even in these parts of the world, where the rest of the nations held little meaning, I, the person locked away, heard about him."
Seeing stars in her eyes as she spoke about his master, Hex shifted uncomfortably in his seat. His mind wandered off, conjuring images of a love triangle between his two mothers and his master.
’No. Please no.’
Hex closed his eyes and shook his head, throwing such thoughts out of his mind.
"Aren’t you overreacting a little?" Medina asked with a raised brow. "It’s normal to be fascinated by a person everyone looks up to."
"Y-Yeah,"
Hex managed to say as he swallowed the rest. So far, he had refrained from disclosing the true nature of their relationship later in life. He certainly didn’t wish to tell his mother that she was the one who destroyed her beloved sister’s life and caused her to sacrifice her life.
He acted as if he wasn’t sure about the exact state of things after she had left Wrixia in the past, which in his defense, wasn’t a complete lie. He didn’t know everything. Not yet.
He did make sure to tuck the diary away as far as possible, not willing to let her read it. Who knows what secrets would unravel and worse, how she would react after learning she caused destruction and death in her wake. Or that she was the core reason her beloved elder sister perished.
For the remainder of the journey, he focussed on sensing his heart. Unlike his inner space, he never observed the way it functioned and what transpired within it at a deeper level.
He knew how to lead chaotic energy and now even elements into it but the process itself thereafter was outside of his control. It just happened on its own.
"You should be the one in control. You haven’t unraveled all its secrets. It still is a great tool to have but an unreliable tool outside one’s control has very little use," Medina lectured him, clearly not approving of his lack of curiosity and creativity.
"The World Stone is the greatest treasure but in your hand, or chest, in this case, it only acts similar to a personalized monolith. You have the world inside you. Seek to understand it, to use it, to master it. Only then will you be able to ascend to the throne."
Hex listened without interrupting her. He didn’t stop her to say that she would later on wish for the Divine Lord to take that throne nor did he stop her to tell her that he didn’t have any ambition to take a throne. He only wished to free the baron, keep the few people he cared for safe, and if he was able to, give everyone more control over their own Fate. At least, to those he cared for.
He focused on her explanation of how to be in control and how to understand his own heart. Despite not having any designs on the throne, he agreed that his goals could only be easier to accomplish with the help of the stone.
Medina finished her instructions just as they reached the next stop in their journey.
