Chapter 318: Registering and Parting

A/N: this is a bonus Chapter.

A/N: Please don’t buy the privilege. They are not written well. I need to revise them all. My apologies to everyone who lost money on this.

These notes aren’t a permanent thing. I will only do so when I have multiple bonus Chapters to release, which I secretly hope is always the case.

Bonus Chapters owed: 0 out of the 4.

I will remove bonus options after this week and focus on improving the privileged Chapters.

Thank you for reading and supporting me. Please continue to do so.

"The Baron? Sword God?"

The mention of his master’s name took him by surprise. He wasn’t familiar with the title of Sword God but it sure sounded epic. It had ’God’ in it.

Although the Gods weren’t present, even after all these years, the term wasn’t used in vain. Even someone like the Divine Lord hadn’t proclaimed to be a god.

"Is it true?" Hex pressed on. "Are there recordings of him here? And why are they here?"

"I heard so," she said, glancing at Elize. "Perhaps, someone can verify it?"

Elize glanced at her but seeing everyone stare at her, she sighed.

"The Old One has been around since the very beginning of the world. His mastery over Space-Time is beyond anyone else. He records certain feats of those in power and keeps them in the Archive.

The competition has many benefits but one of the main ones is the opportunity to access one such recording of your own choosing. This is an open secret."

"So the Old One tracks down every one of renown and records their abilities?"

"You make him sound as if He is some type of a freak," Elize chuckled. "But I think the general gist is along the lines of what you said.

As all of you might know, the world had quite a few Saints and Sages before the Fifth Age. Each with its own specialization. Even today, in the Fifth Age, we still have Seven Sages in this world, competing for supremacy. Each a lord of their own domain."

"Whose domain does Asterella fall under?" Hex interrupted.

Elize didn’t mind the interruption.

"No one," she chuckled. "Or perhaps the High Altar. But with the things that happened there, I doubt She has any power left there."

Hex knew the High Altar reached the apex of what humans could reach because of her devotion toward Heaven. And the fact that the Divine Lord could oppose such powerhouses even at the start of his journey, spoke volumes about his abilities.

He might be an old monster but which one of the Taboos wasn’t one? Now wasn’t the time to worry about these things. He was interested in something else.

"And the Baron’s recording is there too?" Hex asked to be sure.

"There is no way to know what type of recordings there are," Elize said, with a shake of her head. "But the Baron was known as the invincible and undefeated warrior, before whom even Saints and Sages were wary. So, I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t be there."

Hex fell silent for a while before turning towards Sterling.

"I am participating. Sign me up as a Dryad, Druid, and Warrior."

Sterling looked overjoyed and agreed immediately. Hex didn’t know whether he had disrupted Sterling’s plans for his team but he didn’t worry about it. Neither did Sterling or the people around him. They had seen Hex’s performance in the short period they had been together. No one, not even Gronke, could claim his equal. Certainly not in all three fields.

"Wait," Ella spoke suddenly. "As we are teaming up, even if it’s only part of the journey, it wouldn’t hurt to make the most out of your abilities."

"What do you mean?" Sterling asked with a frown. Hex, too, eyed her curiously. What other strength did he have left to be utilized?

"There are also challenges that earn the most points for the heirs. One of which is knowing a Master or even better, a Grandmaster rank Refiner."

Hex blinked. That was indeed something he had forgotten about. Hex’s heart was such a cheat when it came to refining crystals he hadn’t considered it as a challenge. Unlike others who had to spend effort and energy, he gained energy, and that too with minimal effort from his side.

"You tried to hide it but the royals still found your tracks thanks to their Oracles," Ella misunderstood his silence for shock. She thought Hex didn’t expect to be unmasked. Nothing could be further from the truth. At his current level, he feared few. And even then he believed enough in himself to know he could escape.

Ella had already registered her group. She left after some time with them to continue her journey. Hex stuck around to talk a little more with Hestia.

Knowing that the town had been rebuilt and was safe in the hands of Aran, Oron, and Orvyn, who had taken charge of the town in her absence. The arrival of the remnant forces of the Hawks helped bolster the defenses of Grindeston against Demonic and Fiendish beasts.

With the forces of Asterella limited to Lasttown, the townsfolk remained ignorant about the impending war. They went on with their lives, unbothered by the things happening outside of their little world.

Cella and Hestia had also kept the wanted posters out of the town’s reach, causing the people of Grindeston to wonder about his journey. With a smile she couldn’t hide, she described the most popular guess about his life outside.

Apparently, there were two stories stuck in their minds. The older folk believed he did Missions and was saving up to settle down later down the line. They even had proper, night-long discussions about the kind of wife that would suit him.

Hex could only laugh wryly at that. He couldn’t deny it warmed his heart knowing people in that town missed him and that the old discussed his life as he often used to hear them do when talking about the youngsters in their family.

The youngsters, on the other hand, had a far more vivid and wild imagination. The male half believed he turned into a wandering Knight, killing monsters and visiting taverns. And in a more hushed tone, they would fantasize about the women he left pining for him as he skipped town and left their beds empty.

Hex swore under his breath. How unreliable and lustful did those idiots believe him to be? Even if he skipped town, why did they make it sound like he was tricking women in his bed and leaving them at dawn, unwilling to take responsibility for his deed?

"What about the female half?" He asked. He knew the women in the mountains matured often before the men.

"They are not as extreme as the male half, of course," Hestia said. Hex nodded. As expected.

"They think you have fallen for some princess. After being rejected by the King, you have set out to either return a Hero or die, pining for her."

"What kind of fantasies do these kids have?" Hex protested, trying to be audible above Hestia’s nasty cackle.

"That’s not all," Hestia continued. "Do you know, ever since Cella arrived with Elena and they learned she is a princess, the women in the town are even more assured of the accuracy of their theory. They even added the part of her running away, living inside the castle, to bear solitude to show her solidarity with your struggles. She will wait, pining for her lover to return, and finding in his house, which she will turn into his home."

Hex nearly facepalmed. In his heart, he was glad to learn that Elena was doing well. He hoped she would be able to enjoy the different colors of the world and see the flowers bloom after winter.

It was almost noon when Ella left with Hestia and her team in tow. The competition would occur at the core of Wrixia. According to Sterling, many visitors from different nations around the world would come to either participate or take part in it.

Sterling registered them too. But when he proposed to leave, Elize interrupted.

"You guys can leave with the evening flow. But I think Hex should come with me."

"And why is that? Plus, why are you tagging along? Isn’t the defense of these parts on your shoulders?"

Sterling, having registered, believed he would be safe from her. He showed his dislike for Elize openly. Why he disliked her, Hex didn’t know. He did have an inkling why she wished him to tag along. Most likely, she would travel to discuss the Witch with him.

"As the one in command, I am a privileged invitee at the core. I can leave whenever I wish to do so. I just wish to show him a certain hut on the way to the core."
