Chapter 236: At the mansion (2)
The crystals disintegrated under his control.
Hex sensed two people on the lower floor. The intense energy fluctuations coming from below warned of a fierce battle.
’Two Refined Knight...or one Refined Knight and one Knight? I...can’t tell.’
It was the first time he couldn’t gouge someone’s strength. Hex, however, wasn’t fazed by it. Ever since he entered the Temple district, he experienced many first times. At this point, he expected things to take twists and turns.
’If I descent the stairs now, I might suffer attacks from both sides,’ Hex thought with a frown. ’Let’s check things out first. Perhaps there will be an opening I can take advantage of.’
A small burst of flame occurred beneath his feet and the ice around him melted. How long before it froze once again? Hex didn’t know but he hoped he would be able to make his move before discovering it.
Despite being an ice element user, not to mention someone with a Dragon Bear Soul, Hex sensed a certain level of danger from the ice around him. The ice seemed...alive. It was hard to explain. The feeling came from within.
The Dragon Bear, however, roared in his mind. Without exchanging a word, Hex understood its desire to devour the ice crystal. Someone with a weaker will might have succumbed to the intense desire. Or they would have gone mad. Hex remained sane.
Hex stuck his head out. The battle continued. He lowered his head. The battle still continued. He pushed his body through the hole and hung half of it at the edge.
The faint flickering flame at the core of the crystal illuminated the room. Straining his pupils, Hex followed the battle. Having light was better than not having it. He noticed at once that both were female.
One, whose back was towards Hex, threw ice spikes and spat hail at her opponent. In the bluish light of the chamber, Hex had a clear view of her face. He recognized her at once. Miss Rosa, the Healer and teacher of Elena wore a dark blue armor with twinkling gems on them.
’Isn’t she supposed to be a genuine Healer?’
Rosa held a sword with a guarded hilt in one arm and a heater shield in her other arm. The fine steel of her sword glistened in the darkness. In the blue light, it looked even more regal. Her shield didn’t seem heavy but withstood the clashes against the ice spikes without any damage.
Seeing her act and fight with grace and fierceness, donning such equipment, Hex couldn’t help but question her profession. She looked more like a warrior than a healer.
According to Elena, she was a genuine Healer, which was rare. Most so-called Healers just wielded elements with healing properties. Hex and Hestia were such people. But some people were just Blessed with a variant of energy that restored injuries and fatigue. The greatest Healers could even reattach limbs and resurrect the almost-dead. Aside from Rosa, Hex only met one such healer, Lira.
But she fought with a strength Hex only witnessed in battle-hardened warriors. Her opponent was no pushover either. The more he watched her use the ice element, the more his understanding of the element grew.
’It’s like the ice is alive in her hand. It grows, moves, stacks, and what not according to her will.’
This was another first time. He didn’t know many ice users but Hex was certain he never saw someone use an element like her.
She used the ice spikes like lances around her. She struck against the shield with them with such force that Rosa kept losing her footing. It didn’t help that the floor was covered with ice. But the ice on the floor wasn’t just layered on top of the ground. It had a liquid quality to it.
The ice elements on the floor surged toward Rosa. It moved in waves. From his viewpoint, it looked like the Healer stood in an ice lake with waves made of ice too.
Rosa, however, didn’t give her opponent any openings. Seeing the ice on the floor about to surge from all sides, she lunged at the ice user. Her sword struck against a lance of ice. The user threw another lance at her.
But before the lance could hit Rosa, she put her shield up and jumped. With a flip, she landed on the lance, which was blocking the sword. She dragged her sword along the lance. With two steps, she was upon her opponent.
The ice user, seeing the sword coming at her neck, jerked herself free from the lances and slid under them. The lances crashed on the floor and Rosa flipped once more. She landed, maintaining her composure. Now, she was with her back to Hex. And Hex could see the face of the ice user.
The blonde girl with blue eyes and ice crystals glistening on her face, couldn’t be more familiar. Her beauty couldn’t be dimmed by the darkness. The biggest differences in her appearance were the soft blue scales on her arm and the vertical slits in her eyes. Even at a distance, they stood out.
’Elsa Friadrake.’
Hex thought about the few times he met her. Her peculiar manner and mastery of ice elements attracted his attention. But he didn’t expect to see her here. And certainly not battling a Refined Knight of Rosa’s caliber.
He didn’t know how long they battled for. It didn’t seem one would triumph over the other one any time soon. They were matched evenly.
’They can play all they want but we don’t have so much time at hand. What now? Should I help Elsa or Rosa or just blast them both away?’
The reason behind his hesitation was Elsa’s presence. He didn’t know her goal. Rosa clearly guarded the female slumbering above the crystal.
Before Hex could decide, however, the chamber shook. Hex looked warily. It didn’t seem to be limited to the chamber only. Something happened on the outside.
