Chapter 138: Lasttown’s Knights killed

Bang.

Hex blocked Grint’s flaming sword with his frost-covered sword, producing a muffled explosion. Both men were pushed back by two steps.

Grint squinted his eyes, realizing the young man before him was his equal in power. Despite finding it ridiculous, he glanced at his elderly uncles, knowing he wouldn’t be able to finish Hex off on his own.

But Grey and Grim were being held off by Althea’s agile spear. Althea wasn’t strong as both of them combined. But she was agile and skilled with her spear. She kept both old men occupied.

Unlike Grint, Hex didn’t glance toward Althea. He knew how capable she was. He jumped toward Grint. The momentary distraction of the middle-aged Knight forced him to put his sword up in haste.

Bam!

Hex attack pushed Grint back once again but Hex moved with him. When his attack connected with Grint’s sword, he applied the frost power, causing his sword to stick to Grint’s.

Grint exerted great strength to pull his sword free. But Hex didn’t make it easy for him. He stepped against the ground and rammed his knee into the older Knight’s abdomen.

"Arg," Grint gagged. He saw Hex come at him again. He hurriedly let his sword go. That was exactly what Hex wanted to achieve.

Hex swung his sword but Grint had more tricks up his sleeve. His mark flashed and a sword made of flames appeared in his hand.

Hex continued to clash against it, using a layer of frost around his sword’s edge. Their clashes created muffled explosions and small shockwaves.

On the other side, Althea continued to harass the two elderly Knights. Both were experienced fighters. They saw through their plan. They increased their attacks.

Althea, with all her speed and agility, had a tough time keeping both Knights from joining Grint.

Grim used a technique that wrapped his hands in flames and turned them into claws. The fiery claws were sharper than a normal sword. In one of their clashes, Althea was hit by it, leaving five elongated marks on her Blessed armor.

Grey’s technique was different. He wasn’t fast or deadly but he was able to increase the temperature in his direct vicinity. After that, he would blast the steaming air at her. When Althea was hit with it, she was disoriented for a fraction of a second. The damage wasn’t great but the blast of air sent her senses in disarray.

Their combined effort would have long rendered Althea’s attacks useless and maybe even wounded her grievously if not for the help she received.

"There is something amiss with the grass," shouted Grey at his brother after noticing the obstructions that kept popping out of nowhere.

"Their third teammate," replied Grim. He didn’t know Hestia’s techniques but he deduced it to be the only possible explanation.

Just as they spoke, the grasses around them went limp and moved with the wind as they usually did. But the grass around Grint suddenly sprang to life.

Hex attacked Grint relentlessly. It was a battle of grit. The one running out of energy would lose. But Hex still had a hidden card. Something he hadn’t been able to test after acquiring it.

The moment he noticed the grass wrap around Grint’s feet, causing him to stumble, Hex focussed on the black-colored swirls inside his inner space, leading them to his mark.

Berserk!

The ability to go berserk was something Hex acquired after becoming a Knight. The ability enhanced his attributes for a short duration at the cost of his rationality.

"Grr!"

A bestial growl escaped his mouth as he lurched toward Grint. The middle-aged Knight had just freed himself from the binding by burning the grass around him.

Seeing Hex come at him with greater speed than before he hastily put up a defense. But unlike before, Hex’s frost-covered sword turned his flaming sword into ice. Hex followed up by punching the frozen flames, shattering them.

Before Grint was able to conjure another sword, Hex closed in. He roared and moved his sword. In his berserk state, Hex’s strength increased tremendously. The slash cut easily through Grint’s chest guard, wounding him.

Grint groaned in pain. But he still remained aware and tried to increase the distance between them. But the grass beneath his feet moved once more, binding him. At the same time, Hex’s enhanced control over the ice enabled him to freeze Grint’s legs.

Stuck in one place, Grint made an easy target for Hex. Hex slashed widely. The wounds froze as soon as they appeared, preventing Grint from healing them.

Hex continued to hack away. Grint’s life force was draining. Hex sensed someone else running at him. Without rationality to guide him, he attacked the person coming at him with the same aggression.

Grim, who had managed to escape Althea as soon as Hestia switched her focus, tried to meet Hex’s swords with his fiery claws. But he had seriously underestimated Hex’s powers.

The frost element froze his claws. Before he could use the fire element to counter it, Hex’s attack came. Hex used his fists to smash Grim’s fingers. The frozen claws were not as sturdy. They were somewhat brittle. Hex-enhanced fists smashed Grim’s claws and, with that, his fingers into smithereens.

"Brother!"

Grey, seeing Grim’s state, rushed over, leaving his back open to Althea. Hex sensed him and applied his flex step to close the distance.

As soon as Hex got near him, Grey unleashed his stored steam. The blast blew Hex back by a couple of meters but Hex didn’t stop. He applied the consequent steps in the air, getting close to Grey once more.

Grey unleashed a second blast hurriedly but this time to push himself back. He had forgotten about Althea. Just as he blasted himself backward, he sensed the air rumble. He turned his head but it was too late. Althea flew as one with her spear. The spear hit Grey in the back. Hex, who had performed a few steps in the air, reached him and kneed him right then. His knee pushed him into the spear, causing the tip to go all the way through him. Grey shuddered but there was nothing he could do. He died after a few seconds.

When Hex landed on the grass, he groaned. The berserk state was done. It lasted about sixty seconds.

’It wasn’t bad but I can’t recollect anything. Not what I saw, heard, thought, or smelled,’ Hex analyzed the pros and cons of his berserker ability.

Grim was still groaning but trying to escape. Luckily, Hestia had noticed and wrapped him up. Hex picked his sword up and walked to him. Without saying a word, he beheaded the elderly Knight. After that, he walked up to Grint. The mayor was still fighting but Hex had zero patience with him. He, too, was beheaded.

"What now?" Hestia asked, coming out of the grass she was hidden in.

"We leave for Notrelune. No stops."
