The SSS Ranked Villain's Return -
Chapter 366 - 366: Mind Realm
[Neraxis's POV]
Pitch black darkness, that was what he had been seeing for the last...
How long has it even been? he wondered.
He had clearly died, even his consciousness had faded. But now, it seemed like he was back.
Was Jane successful? Huh... her revival techniques are no joke, Neraxis mused with a smile.
Yet no matter how much he tried, he just couldn't feel his body, almost as if he was only a soul.
But that wouldn't make much sense. At least, not to him.
Yet just as he thought this would truly last forever, he saw a faint light in the distance.
He willed himself to move toward it, and surprisingly, his form complied.
Neraxis slowly moved toward it, yet the closer he got, the further away it felt.
That was when he felt a pull, dragging him toward the light in an instant.
And that was also when he regained control of his body. Or rather, whatever this was.
He opened his eyes painfully and glanced around.
I'm in my mind realm... Neraxis concluded with a frown.
It was empty as always, or so he thought. His gaze landed on a particular figure sitting on a throne, glancing at Neraxis as if he was an ant.
"So you've died. How does it feel, Neraxis?" Lagus asked. "I remember it hurt the first time. But all times after that were a blur. You'll get used to it."
Neraxis opened his mouth, trying to speak. But no words came out.
"Oh right." Lagus flicked his fingers. "Try now."
"What did you mean by... I'll get used to it?" Neraxis asked with a hoarse voice.
"What do you think? I did tell you that we are immortal, didn't I? Your memories are going to be reset, and you'll be reborn in a new body. On a new world this time. I made sure to break the loops with that bullshit tower, so you'll be fine, Neraxis. No memories, a full-on restart," Lagus replied confidently.
He stood from the throne and walked over to Neraxis.
"All I've ever wanted was to free you, my son. And now that you have abandoned your mortal shell, you can truly become someone you were destined to be," Lagus added with a righteous smile.
However, those words only made Neraxis chuckle.
"You pulled that shit out of the book I read the other week, didn't you?"
"Huh? Was it that obvious?" Lagus grumbled. "I thought you weren't paying attention."
"Even if I wasn't, my mind can still comprehend it," Neraxis replied, then tilted his head. "Also, just how stupid do you think I am? After all that has happened, you think this is the story I'd believe? You doing this for my sake? If you had told me you did this to kill me, then I would've believed it."
But alas, Lagus was a selfish individual. He wanted to use him in order to become truly powerful. Just like in the past.
And his suspicions seemed to be correct, as Lagus clicked his tongue, then walked back to the throne and sat down.
"Honestly. I wished you had at least considered the possibility of me caring for you," Lagus remarked with a sigh. "I was your father at some point, as I'm sure you remember."
Neraxis scoffed, not even entertaining that idea.
"So what really happened to me?" he asked.
"I wasn't lying when I said you died," Lagus replied flatly. "But since you're immortal, your soul is looking for a body to take over. But there's a slight issue... your current body is not exactly dead."
"So I'm dead, but my body isn't? Huh... that makes no sense," Neraxis said. "I suppose you're not here to show me how to get back into my not-so-dead body?"
"No." Lagus shook his head slowly, a smile appearing on his face. "Though I think it's time I reap the harvest, little Neraxis."
With those words, Lagus lunged from his throne, appearing in front of Neraxis in an instant.
He tried to grab Neraxis's throat, but an invisible force stopped him.
And that invisible force was none other than Neraxis's will.
"That was a pretty poor attempt," Neraxis remarked.
That was when Neraxis's head suddenly twisted to the opposite side, and he fell lifeless to the ground.
A few moments of silence passed, until he reappeared in the mind realm again. His dead body was below Lagus's feet.
"No. I was just trying to see if you're not a complete amateur," Lagus said, straightening his back.
He reappeared in front of Neraxis once more. This time, much faster.
However, as he was about to twist Neraxis's neck, he was met with a blow to the side of the head.
Lagus was sent flying back and crashing against the throne.
He rose up, staring at Neraxis with a surprised look.
"Huh. You landed a blow on me. I thought that would take you a few more attempts."
Neraxis sighed. "You talk too much."
He stepped forward and sent a chunk of the mind realm's ground at Lagus.
But as it was about to land, Lagus vanished, then reappeared right above Neraxis.
And before Neraxis could even react, his head was crushed.
More time passed. He returned, fought with Lagus, and was once again killed.
Over and over again.
He had lost track past the 190th death, but he knew he had died a couple hundred more times.
Or maybe even a thousand? It was hard to tell.
But by that point, each move Lagus had made was predictable. All Neraxis had to do to counter him was move to the side, punch, retreat, and repeat. It was simple.
Lagus was a great fighter, but he was also someone who had always been so powerful, he had never put any thought into martial arts.
And as for Neraxis, even if his foundation was flawed, he had the essentials down.
So after all these deaths, he finally learned how to fully utilize his body.
Short bursts of speed, maybe even an overhead kick. It was fun to do, and every time he managed to land a hit on Lagus, it felt rewarding.
But after all this time...
I need to end this.
