The Spirited Daughter-in-law and the Mountain Man
Chapter 1139 - Chapter 1139 Survive 1139

Chapter 1139: Survive 1139 Chapter 1139: Survive 1139 She shuffled forward, almost sideways, caught in the narrow water-filled fissure in the cave.

Suddenly, someone pushed her feet from behind.

It was third brother, without a doubt.

She pushed with all her might, and he pushed from behind, yet she remained stuck in the fissure, unable to move.

She struggled, twisting her body fiercely as he pushed hard from behind.

Her body was rubbed raw, but she finally squeezed through that one meter of the narrow gap.

No sooner had she cleared the gap than the water outside the fissure swept her out another two meters.

She had kept hold of the waist belt all along, and now she pulled the clothes attached to it out with her.

She immediately swam back and saw third brother inside the cave wall just past the narrow gap, waving at her, signaling her to swim away quickly.

Looking at that slender fissure, even she had to turn sideways, be pushed, and use brute force to squeeze through.

She was scratched and stuck.

Being stuck was one thing, but at least she had made it out.

Yet, third brother was much bigger than her, and that narrow gap was impossible for him to squeeze through, even if he turned sideways.

Because his size when turned sideways was still larger than the gap.

She realized for the first time that being small also had its advantages.

She could get out, but third brother couldn’t come out at all!

It was only a one-meter distance, but the width was so narrow that it must have been third brother who, over the past few days, had been digging with his dagger at arm’s length; his arms were longer than a meter, and he never actually swam through that one-meter tight crack himself.

The pond water was already beginning to freeze.

If she didn’t come out now, both of them might never have made it out.

So, third brother had sent her out.

“Dear, I want you again…”

“It was so difficult to get out, but once you’re out, you must be happy every day…”

She remembered what he had said to her with a smile just before going into the water.

At the time, she thought he was just being frivolous.

But he had wanted her one last time.

He knew he couldn’t get out.

He wanted her to live, even if it meant being trapped alone in the pool and dying there, rather than having her join him in death.

Her eyes moistened.

Before they went into the water, he had pretended to laugh joyously; so brilliant was his smile, likely fearing that she would sense something off, worrying that she wouldn’t leave.

Tears flooded her eyes, and in a moment of impulse, she wanted to crawl back into the crack to be with him!

She didn’t want to go out alone.

Yet he kept making hand gestures from inside the water cave beyond the narrow gap.

Bubbles emerged from his mouth as he spoke.

She made out the shape of his lips repeating the same words…

Survive!

“Wait for me!” she suddenly calmed down and repeated those two words over and over in the water, then motioned to him to go back.

He gave her a deep, unwilling look, too narrow inside the cave wall to turn around; he clutched the cave wall and retreated.

Seeing him head back, she immediately swam to the surface.

Although third brother couldn’t come out, she had, and with only a one-meter narrow gap stopping her, she immediately returned to the village to call a large group of people to widen that meter so that third brother could come out!

Swimming up about two and a half meters, she broke the surface of the water.

Climbing up the cliff, she found herself at a lake under the mountain, surrounded on all sides by mountains, with only the side near the narrow gap being a sheer and tall cliff that reached out of sight.

The other three sides were ordinary mountains, possible to climb out of.

She looked around; everything was blanketed in white snow, the ground and mountain covered in a vast expanse.

She truly didn’t know where she was in the depths of the mountains.

The stars twinkled above, and the moonlight was bright and clear.

She didn’t panic but calmed herself down, using the stars to determine the direction back to the village.

She didn’t put on her wet clothes, but ran over the mountains and ridges towards the village direction, wearing only her bellyband and panties.
