Chapter 312: Ch 311: Against a God- Part 2

The three Ethans charged together, weaving through darkness and flame, their blades glowing with the last of their restraint.

The body they fought wasn’t just their enemy—it was Selene.

Somewhere beneath the corrupted aura, beneath the twisted voice and flickering madness, she was still there. Ethan had to believe that.

But every strike they held back, every blow they pulled, gave the entity more time to adapt.

"You’re too soft. She’s not going to survive if we keep treating this like a game."

One of them hissed as he narrowly avoided a slash of corrupted energy.

"She won’t survive if we kill her, either!"

Another barked back.

The third Ethan, calmer than the rest, glanced at Selene’s face—calm, unreadable, no longer hers.

"We have to break her out from the inside. The body will survive. If we hesitate again, we lose everything."

The air crackled as Selene—no, the being inside her—roared.

Energy surged through her limbs, warping the space around them. The dungeon trembled.

Outside, the earth itself began to bend under the weight of the dungeon’s expansion.

Cracks opened in city streets, swallowing cars and buildings whole. Pits of lava tore through neighborhoods, and from them, monstrous creatures crawled out with hunger in their glowing eyes.

The world was falling apart.

People screamed. Fled. Fought. Died.

Zara stood at the edge of the chaos, scanning the battlefield with tense eyes.

She barked orders into her comms device, directing squads of fighters and civilians. But it was no use.

No one was listening.

"Who put her in charge?"

"She’s not even a ranker!"

"Why should we follow a nobody?"

The panic turned into disarray. People fought each other just as much as they fought the monsters. The last line of humanity was breaking.

Zara clenched her jaw. If she didn’t act now, everything would be lost. Her fingers hovered near her blade.

"Enough!"

A voice boomed from behind her.

Zara turned.

Solomon Kane stepped forward, the silver threads in his dark armor glinting under the blood-red sky. His presence silenced the crowd instantly.

"Zara has the experience. She understands this world’s collapse better than any of us. You want to survive?"

His eyes scanned the crowd.

"Then shut up and follow her lead."

A ripple of doubt remained.

Until Heera Due stepped forward. Beside her was Alexander Grave, the #1 ranker, silent and stoic as ever. He didn’t say a word. He didn’t need to.

He stood behind Zara.

That was enough.

The soldiers who had been hesitant straightened their spines. The chaos simmered. The air shifted.

Zara didn’t waste a second.

"Everyone to formation! We’re going to push back the corruption. I need fire-users on the front. Mages in the rear. Tanks and melee hold the line in the center. This is our world, and this is our last shot to take it back."

All across the battlefield, warriors took their places.

The lava pits frothed, and the monsters screamed, but this time, humanity stood firm.

______

Back in the dungeon, Ethan moved like lightning.

The three of him were synced perfectly now, moving as one mind in three bodies. Their swords clashed against Selene’s claws and dark energy tendrils.

She fought like a god, unhindered by mortal hesitation.

One of the Ethans landed a hit across her ribs. Another dodged a beam of black fire. The third lunged forward, trying to reach out—not with his blade, but with his voice.

"Selene! I know you’re in there!"

For a second, the entity faltered.

And then it screamed.

A force of pure corruption erupted from Selene’s body, throwing all three Ethans across the stone floor. Walls cracked. The floor broke apart.

The corrupted Selene hovered above them, cloaked in shadows and energy.

"You are nothing but fragments. This world will fall, and from its ashes, mine will rise"

She said.

Ethan spat blood and stood. His other selves mirrored him.

"If that’s what you think, then you never understood her at all. You have no right to use Selene’s body."

He said,

And this time, they didn’t hold back.

As one, the three Ethans charged, blades glowing bright.

______

Outside, Zara raised her hand, signaling the assault.

"Push forward! Don’t let them through!"

Solomon and Alexander led the charge.

Magic lit up the darkened sky. Swords met teeth. Fire met shadow. It was a war unlike anything the world had ever seen.

And through it all, everyone—Ethan, Zara, Solomon, and the countless nameless souls fighting with everything they had—held onto one hope.

That Selene could still be saved.

And that the world hadn’t ended just yet.

Noah struck down the final monster with a flash of cold light, its body freezing mid-roar before shattering into a thousand crystalline shards.

He lowered his hand, breathing heavily, and turned to Nora.

"I think that’s the last of them."

He said.

Nora nodded.

"For now. But they keep coming faster each time."

Just as she spoke, Noah winced. A burning sensation coursed through his right arm. He stumbled, grabbing it instinctively.

"Noah?"

Nora called, rushing to his side.

He looked down—and froze.

His skin was turning white. Not pale—white, like frostbitten ice, jagged and glimmering faintly.

The strange white cracked over his skin in fine lines, forming jagged patterns that shimmered like frozen rivers.

"I—what the hell? I didn’t do this."

Noah muttered.

Nora’s eyes widened.

"Is that your power?"

"No. At least... it’s never done this before."

The cold spread slowly up his forearm. He poked it cautiously, expecting pain—but felt nothing. No heat, no cold. Just... nothing. Like the arm was no longer his.

"Noah. Can you still use it?"

Nora’s voice grew tight.

"I think so. It doesn’t hurt."

He said, more uncertain than he liked.

"That’s what worries me."

Before either could investigate further, the earth beneath them trembled. A shriek echoed in the distance—followed by the familiar thundering of monstrous feet.

"Again?"

Noah groaned.

The next wave of monsters appeared over the horizon—larger, bulkier, meaner than before. Nora summoned her blades instantly, eyes narrowing.

"We’ll talk about your arm later."

"Sure. Later. If I still have one."

Noah muttered, flexing his hand and grimacing.

They launched into action once more, a blur of blade and frost.

But as Noah moved, he noticed the ice wasn’t just spreading—it was reacting.

Each time he used his powers, the strange white lines crept further up his shoulder and toward his chest.

He faltered for a second during the fight, glancing at his side—and saw the frost had spread to his ribs. It wasn’t just his arm now. It was him.

His reflection shimmered briefly in a nearby puddle—white markings like veins glowing faintly across his neck and jaw.

His eyes were beginning to shift in hue, glinting with a silvery sheen.

"Nora! I think something’s wrong."

He called mid-swing.

She stabbed a monster through the throat, pivoted, and froze when she looked at him.

"Noah... your face."

"I know!"

He swiped his hand across his interface, trying to find some explanation. The system responded after a delay, a message blinking softly in the center of his vision:

[System Notice

Purification in progress. Please remain still.

Embrace your new form. Evolution is required.]

"What the hell does that mean? Purification?! I didn’t agree to any damn purification!"

He snapped.

Nora dropped down beside him, panting.

"It said ’evolution.’ What is it trying to change you into?"

"I don’t know! I didn’t ask for this!"

He hissed.

Then the system flared again, brighter this time—and not just for him.

All across the battlefield, every fighter paused. From tanks to mages, from civilians to rankers—the system blared into everyone’s view at once.

Global System Announcement

Initiating wide-scale purification.

All selected candidates will undergo immediate enhancement.

Evolution of the human race is required for world stability.

Embrace your new self and step into a new world.]

Gasps rippled through the crowd. Some cried out in protest. Others began to glow. A few collapsed as unfamiliar energies coursed through their bodies, reshaping them, changing them.

Nora looked around, then back at her brother.

"This isn’t just you. It’s everyone."

She whispered.

Noah clenched his fists.

"Then what are we turning into?"

Neither of them had an answer.

But as the light intensified and the ground beneath them pulsed with power, one thing became clear.

The world was no longer theirs.

Not in the way it used to be.

Whatever came next—whatever new form, new world, or new war was waiting—they had no choice but to face it together.

And pray they didn’t lose themselves in the process.

Noah staggered as another surge of ice burst across his back, his breath hitching. His legs trembled beneath the weight of his mutating body.

Nora caught him before he fell, her arms shaking as she held him up.

"Noah—stay with me!"

"I’m still here,"

He murmured, though even his voice sounded strange—distorted, deeper, echoing faintly like it didn’t fully belong to him anymore.

The light of the system pulsed again above them, this time humming louder, deeper, as if singing a song only the marked could hear.

Nora clenched her fists.

"Whatever this ’new world’ is, we’re not going down without a fight."
