Chapter 206: Ch 206: What’s the Solution? - Part 2

Walking in silence started to get difficult after a while and Selene felt like her mind was slipping by the second.

Selene’s mind began to play tricks on her. The shadows seemed to shift. She caught glimpses of shapes moving in the darkness.

Her steps slowed.

"Is someone there?"

She whispered.

No answer. Only silence.

Selene shook her head.

"Stay focused."

She forced herself to keep moving. But the further she went, the more her unease grew.

Her heart pounded louder in her ears.

The flame flickered, casting eerie shadows along the walls.

Suddenly, Selene’s foot slipped.

"Ah—"

She caught herself just in time, her hand pressing against the cold stone wall. Her pulse quickened.

She took a shaky breath.

"Okay... I’m fine."

But her patience was wearing thin.

"Come on! Where does this end? Just how long do I have to keep walking on?"

She muttered, but kept walking. The endless descent was starting to wear her down, but Selene was not about to give up..

Selene felt exhausted as she kept walking. Her legs ached, and her body felt heavier with every step. The air was thick, making it hard to breathe.

No matter how far she went, the corridor seemed endless.

Her vision blurred. She stumbled, her balance wavering. Her knees buckled, and she fell.

She reached out to grab something, anything, but her fingers only brushed against smooth stone.

Selene tumbled forward. She felt herself falling but braced for the impact.

Her body hit the ground, but the fall wasn’t as deep as she had feared. Pain shot through her shoulder, but the bruise faded in seconds.

She let out a tired laugh.

"It must be my lucky day. I managed to find the solution faster than expected.."

She muttered, her voice echoing in the empty space.

Selene pushed herself up. The room she had landed in was small and dimly lit.

In the center, a faint glow caught her eye. She stepped forward, her tired body dragging behind her.

A core.

The core pulsed softly, as if waiting for her. Selene instinctively knew that if she took it, the dungeon would collapse. But she couldn’t leave without the reward.

Her hand hovered over the core. The system chimed in her mind.

[Dungeon cleared. Spell over the awakeners has been lifted.]

Relief washed over Selene. Everyone who had been knocked unconscious would wake up soon. But before she could celebrate, another notification appeared.

It was a message from Ethan.

[Got word that the dungeon is cleared. I’m heading toward you.]

Selene shook her head and immediately sent a reply.

[Don’t come. Get everyone out. I’ll handle things here.]

Ethan’s reply came fast.

[What are you planning, Selene?]

Selene didn’t answer at first, but then decided that sending a message back would be important. There was no point in letting Ethan and others be worried about her after all.

[I am not planning anything. I am just in the boss room and I am about to grab the thing that will allow us to clear this dungeon.]

______

Ethan stared at the message, his jaw tightening. A bad feeling settled in his gut. Selene was up to something dangerous.

But he knew pushing her wouldn’t work.

"Fine. I’ll make sure everyone gets out. But I never promised that I will get them all out myself."

He muttered under his breath.

Ethan pocketed his phone and looked around. Everyone was still unconscious, but not for long. He needed help getting them out.

"Nora Vale!"

Ethan called out, his voice steady but urgent.

Nora Vale, who had been standing nearby, turned toward him. Her expression was tired, but her eyes were sharp.

"Take charge. Get everyone out of the dungeon."

Ethan said.

Nora raised a brow.

"And what are you going to do?"

Ethan’s jaw clenched.

"Just get them out."

Nora didn’t argue. She knew better than to waste time. She nodded and stepped forward. Noah followed closely behind her.

"Why her?"

Noah asked, his voice low but angry.

"Because she’s the responsible Vale twins. I don’t think I can leave the evacuation up to you alone."

Ethan said.

Noah didn’t look convinced. His fists clenched.

"Are you going after Selene? I should be the one to go after Selene. You stay here."

Noah said. His voice was tight, barely holding back his frustration.

Ethan’s eyes narrowed.

"We don’t have time for this. I will go alone."

"I’m serious. Let me go."

Noah stepped closer, his eyes burning with determination.

"You’re not strong enough. I beat you once. I’ll beat you again."

Ethan said coldly.

Noah’s face darkened.

"That was different. I wasn’t—"

"Doesn’t matter. You’ll just slow me down."

Ethan cut him off.

Noah’s temper flared. His hands clenched tighter, ice forming around his fingertips.

"Do you really want to do this now?"

Ethan’s voice dropped. It was a warning.

The air between them grew tense. The temperature dropped slightly as Noah’s ice spread. But before either of them could move, a voice interrupted.

"Stop it."

Nora stepped between them, her eyes flashing with irritation.

"We don’t have time for this."

She said firmly.

"Let’s do the job we are good at."

Zara added, stepping up beside Nora. Her expression was calm but her voice was serious.

Noah’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t say anything.

"We’ll handle things here. You go and get out sister."

Nora said, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Ethan glanced at Selene’s last message again. His gut told him time was running out.

Without another word, he turned and headed deeper into the dungeon.

Nora let out a breath.

"Come on. Let’s move."

She said to the others.

Noah followed her, but his mind was still on Selene.

Ethan moved quickly. His senses were sharp, his mind focused. Every step brought him closer to where Selene was. His heart pounded, a mixture of worry and determination driving him forward.

"Hang on, Selene."

He muttered under his breath.

The deeper he went, the more the air changed. It felt heavier, charged with strange energy.

Ethan’s instincts screamed that something was wrong.

Selene was running out of time.
