Vol. 1 - Ch. 14 - Larvae and Slime

We headed to recruit player-like slime and larvae. I wonder what kind of attributes do they have in their characters?

The level of [seances] has been increased.

The level of [evil jutsu] has increased.

 While actively using [Seance] and [Evil Jutsu], I proceeded toward the icon of Jigorou on the map.

 Iris did not come with me because she is preoccupied with production, which is finally possible, and on top of that she is multitasking. I can probably say that the race of lesser rock-tentacles is slow. They have a hard outer shell and countless tentacles, which give them a high level of defense and myriad hands to work, but their greatest weakness is that they are too slow.

Her walking speed is almost half the speed of my walk. It was hard to get her to my base. Her tentacles are faster though.

"Hey, over here!"

 I heard Jigoro in front of me. He was too loud calling me.

"Oh, you've evolved? Three eyes are so cool!"

"You too. You have a graceful body that I wouldn't expect from a goblin. And I like your tattoos."

 Jigoroh, like me, had evolved. His height is not much different from before, but the muscles covering his body are very thick. He had gained weight as guessed from his doubled size.

 Moreover, his entire body is covered in golden tattoos. It is supposed to resemble a tiger and looks as if it were the traditional war makeup of some tribe. I thought I had become a rare species, very unique from normal players but he had also evolved into a rare demon.

"Heh heh! Now that you know how good this is. Let's go and have a drink sometime!"

"That sounds fun, but I'm physically incapable of drinking," I said to him.

"Well, let's leave the race-evolution compliments at that and get down to business. What about that combination duo?" I told him.

"Oh, come along."

 I followed Jigoro's lead. Then we arrived at an ordinary tree.

"Nothing is here?"

"No, Look at this."

"The... lid?"

 At the base of the tree was a hole that goes all the way to the back. The entrance was blocked by a lid made of soil and leaves and branches. It looks like a hidden room, but there is no information about it. It must be a hiding place made by either the larvae or the slime mentioned earlier by Jigoro.

They both were at the backside of the room. They might think I was coming to eat them or attack, so they can attack me out of the blue.

"So what are you going to do? Are you going to help them like you helped me the other day?" Jigoro asked.

"I'll try to recruit them. It's not going to hurt them either."

"Then let's go."

 Jigorou and I entered the hole that led to the room. The hole is wide enough for one person to walk through. I am thinner than a human being, and Jigorou, who is smaller than me, has plenty of room to walk.

 It is pitch black, but the demons almost all have [night vision], so there is no problem at all. After walking for a while, I saw the two demons.

 Their appearance was exactly as described in Jigoro's message. A giant larva the size of a large dog, and a slightly blue slime that sat on top of its head and trembled. It was a unique combination.

"Pull, pull, pull!"

"Tick-tock."

Both larva and slime were afraid to see us.

 Both of them seemed wary of us. Just when they thought the dangerous-looking kobold goblin had left, he came back with a blatantly dangerous guy in a black robe and a skeletal mask with a third eye.

"Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock..."

"Wait a minute. We have no intention to engage in a fight."

"Kachi?"

"Okay, apparently not desperate enough. Negotiation time from here. It's a chance to make more demon friends. We must watch our every word!" I said to Jigoro.

"First of all, let me apologize for breaking into your hideout so suddenly. I am truly sorry. I just wanted to talk to you, to the players who chose to be demons, just like us."

 With that, I took off my mask and exposed my true face

'They are so scared, aren't they? If I took off the third skeleton mask and the face inside was again a different color, I would even be scared!'

"We are also demons just like you guys. Let us be friends and help each other."

They both were reluctant to speak although not opposite.

"Oh, I have no problem with language. I have the ability of [linguistics], and I can understand both of you."

"Tick, tick, tick (really, how?)?"

"Yes, it's true. My name is Isamu. May I ask you both your names?"

"I am Genjuro."

"I'm a Ruby."

"I see, so you are Genjuro and Ruby. I'll be straight with you, why don't you both come to our hideout? I think it is much safer than here."

 The fact that I mentioned their name made them both believe that I could hear what they were saying. I'm aware that my appearance is suspicious and scary.

 And perhaps surprised by my suggestion, Genjuro and Ruby seemed to look at each other. Then it remained that way for a while. They must have been discussing it in friend messages or group chat. Finally, they both answered at the same time.

"Click, click, click, click, click."

"Please!"

 "Oh, you didn't need any persuasion. If we could go to a safe place, that would be good." Genjuro said.

"Okay, Then I will send you a group application and you can join."

"Okay."

"Pull, pull (yes)."

 This is OK, he said.

"Let's go, then. We will be passing through some very sketchy places until we get there, so be prepared for that."

We came back to my lab.

 They both seem surprised by the laboratory.

 While talking on the road, I asked about the two of them. First of all, Genjuro said that his race is the "Insect Human Larva," which means that when he evolves, he will look somewhere between a bipedal four-armed insect and a human, but more like an insect.

 Ruby is a "viscous slime''. She likes so-called "success stories," and she was determined to make it the strongest slime in the game.

 As you can tell from the conversations, these two people know each other in real life, or rather, they are family. The relationship between them is grandfather and granddaughter.

"Ah, welcome back." Iris greeted us.

"I'm home. Let me introduce you to Genjuro, of Insect Man Larva, and Ruby, of Mucous Slime. And she is Iris, the "Lesser Rock Tentacles". I want you to get along with them."

"Pull pull!"

"Oh right you guys can understand each other only in group chats because you don't have [linguistics]"

  It seems that the first contact between the three of us went well. They will soon get to know each other. I told them I would help them hunt if they needed it.

"You can use everything here as long as you don't break anything. I'm going to go hunting for a while. Send me a message if you need anything."

"I understand! Off you go!"

"I'm sorry, Isamu. Can I come with you? Our combination would have more advantages in many ways, wouldn't it?"

"Yes, but today I intend to proceed with filling in the sewer map for now. Is that okay with you?"

"Yeah, I like it."

 "Hmmm, then let's go to the south side. With two evolved people, we should be able to fight even with more than one rat man. Let's go!"

Jigoro is showing a little leeway even when dealing with two rat-men. It seems to be tough as quicksand when there are three or more, but it is the same thing if I defeat some while he is dealing with others. We were able to capture the south side of the building smoothly.

'Speaking of which, what did Jigoro evolve into? In case you're wondering, I'm an Abyssal Skeleton Mage."

"I'm a berserk goblin," he said. A crazy little goblin.

 I heard that instead of increased strength, muscle strength, and agility, the beast-crazy little berserk goblins will have difficulty acquiring weapon-based and magic-based ability skills. That's the exact opposite of my skills.

"So Why do you think you and I were evolved at the same time?"

"I see. Odd coincidence! I don't know."

"You too, that means Isamu! That thing was very strong, wasn't it?"

 Jigoro nodded as he remembered. Since I could do it, it was only natural that Jigoro could do it too. I try to check the official bulletin board, and there I saw analyses and discussions of the conditions.

"Oh, it was strong. The rewards were delicious, but as for me, I wouldn't want to fight again."

"I'd love to have another fight with the Moon Delusion."

 You battle madman. But if Jigorou also went through the ordeal, does that mean he received a reward? Although no equipment looks like it...?

Rarity: G-God level

 A jewel that seals the soul of a divine beast. Unbreakable. Owner fixed.

 By swallowing it, you gain the factor of a divine beast.

 It is as good as my reward. And it matches Jigorou's fighting style in the same way. As I thought, the rewards from the trials are very luxurious. I told him the [appraisal] results.

He was like, "Wow, I can eat this gem. Well, I'm going to eat it!"

"Gulp!"

Without any hesitation, Jigoro throws the "Soul Ball of the Divine Beast (Tiger)" into his mouth and swallows it.

"Any changes?"

The info was just saying, "You've taken in the soul ball."

I see... Then there must have been some conditions for this to unleash. It's called "getting the factor."

"I see. Well, whatever. Let's go."

"I guess so. Let's go."

 He doesn't seem to care. No matter how far you go, all he seems to care about is enjoying the fight. I'd probably waste an hour on verifications and considerations. I feel like this is one of my shortcomings.

 Thus we continue to move further and further south. I can't wait to see how far we get in this experience.
