Chapter 44: Chapter 44 I’m at Your School Entrance
Just as she thought of Mu Shuoqian, a message from Mu Shuoqian arrived.
Teacher Shang had already returned to class, and Gu Qili was strolling alone by the lake, still preoccupied with matters concerning Hu Jiaojiao.
She had long known that Hu Jiaojiao was a vain person, but back then, the young miss of the Gu Family didn’t give a hoot about money, never minding affairs related to it. Besides, their fathers were close friends, so she naturally didn’t guard against her. Moreover, Hu Jiaojiao was quite the actress, feigning fragility. With her own straightforward temperament, she was no match for her.
While Gu Qili was reflecting on this, a message came through.
A familiar string of numbers.
"I’m at the entrance of your school."
She didn’t expect him to show up suddenly. Today was Monday, and she didn’t need to report to the Mu Family mansion, so his unexplained appearance was unnerving, making her anxious that she might have done something to displease him.
Gu Qili hurried to the entrance. There, the showy yet understated Maybach was parked by the roadside. Afraid of being seen, Gu Qili quickly pulled out a book to cover her face and sprinted to the front of the car, then opened the door and got in.
It was only when she opened the door that she realized Mu Shuoqian was sitting on the side she wanted to sit on.
The back seat of the Maybach 62 has only two seats, so she obediently closed the door and walked around the rear of the car, still covering her face, as if she were a thief.
There he was, flipping through a magazine, not looking up as she entered, his slender fingers turning pages, his gaze focused on the dense lines of text.
With him not speaking, she naturally didn’t dare to interrupt. She leaned forward, revealing a row of neat teeth and smiling as she greeted the driver, Yuan Yi.
Yuan Yi gave her a simple smile, then immediately resumed his rigid posture, sitting up straight and facing forward.
Feeling bored, Gu Qili simply picked up the book in her hands and started reading.
It was midday, and the sun was scorching. Although the car had good shading features, some residual heat seeped in, warming her face.
Gu Qili didn’t read for long before sleepiness overtook her. Mu Shuoqian, sitting beside her, hadn’t said a word, sitting there like a statue. When he was silent like this, she had long learned to keep her own silence.
She had no choice but to lower her head and continue reading, but it wasn’t long before she fell asleep.
Just as the drowsiness began to take hold and she hadn’t yet fully sunk into deep sleep, a cool voice pulled her from dreams back to reality.
The feeling of just falling asleep and then being rudely awakened was utterly terrible, and it made Gu Qili feel completely off.
What annoyed her the most was that he chose neither earlier nor later to ask, but decided to inquire right when she had just dozed off, and the question was so trivial and dull.
"Where did you put the tablet charger?" he was still flipping through the magazine, sounding so detached as if he wasn’t talking to her.
Gu Qili, head groggy and heavy with sleepiness, answered irritably, "Isn’t it with the computer?"
Finally, he deigned to look up at her indifferently: "Where is the computer?"
Gu Qili: "..."
He didn’t know where the computer was, yet he asked her about the charger - what kind of question was that?
Wouldn’t this kind of question have been settled with a text or a call? Did he need to drive to the school entrance just to ask?
Gu Qili felt like a flock of crows was flying over her head, dropping bird droppings on her.
Teasing her for fun, huh?
She really wasn’t in the mood today.
"They are all on your bedside table." Okay, let’s not ask these kinds of questions anymore, she considered sticking a note to his forehead when she left in the future, saying that helplessness is a condition, and it needs treatment.
